A - Pitch black with a nice light tan creamy head. Head retention is good, as is the lacing.

S - Smokey roasted malts are at the forefront. mocha (chocolate/coffee)is well defined in the background, coffee with more to say!

T - Chocolate roasted malts now dominate while the smokiness is still present it was mostly in the aroma. Some coffee and hints of dark fruit are present on the back of the tongue. Overall a balanced flavor, but not overly complex.

M - Medium-heavy bodied, a little thin for most of the stouts I have experienced. Very creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is what to expect with a nitro-stout... Finishes with lots of roasted malts, more currant like fruit and the stong mocha punch!

D - Well rounded, starts out dominating with the smokiness and finishes the same way...yummy stout...but a bit much on the currant/mocha ride...chasin' cheers :~)

Poured black with a finger of khaki head. Mild aroma of roasty coffee and a hint of cocoa.

Slightly low carbonation and a creamy, extremely thin mouthfeel. Weak initial flavors of bready malt and coffee that open up into a really nice cocoa quality on the finish.

Very smooth and drinkable, but not hugely memorable.

Jet Black with a thin tan head that does not go anywhere, it just sits on top to the bottom of the glass as long as you just sip at it. Chocolate aromas mostly, maybe a little smokiness. Chocolate taste up front with a little coffee and crystal malts thinning the mix. A pretty much perfect thin, creamy feel with a dry finish.

A great tasting and feeling dry irish stout. I could drink them most of the night and then finish with something a little more robust.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured absolutely black, no light passes through this beer! The deep, rich, creamy head we've come to expect from this style had excellent retention and surprisngly light lacing.

Strong and solid roasted malt aromas greet the nose, with a slight coffee scent in the background. The coffee flavor dominates the tongue, which in my view, costs this beer some points. I expect coffee in the bigger stouts but not these easy drinkers. This beer also has a solid coffee aftertaste that I don't enjoy.

The body is what is expected from this style, smooth, balanced and easy to drink. Drinkability would have scored a 5 but that coffee taste and aftertaste cost the beer. Smooth and easy to drink having a solid session would be easy with this brew.

Overall, a very good beer. I don't like coffee at all so I didn't enjoy this beer as much I wanted to. Still, a job well done by one of the Seattle area's newest breweries. Worth trying if you're in the area.

Black Raven serves this dry stout on nitro in tall, imperial pint glasses. The beer delivers an exquisite fragrance of lightly roasted grains and coffee burlap. It's a near-perfect aroma though it doesn't sustain itself for the duration of a 20-oz. serving and eventually falters. It is visually much as you would expect from a nitro beer with a compact head of dark espresso froth.

Beyond this, the beer is relatively thin bodied. The taste is targeted though modest - even for a beer built on stylish modesties. As for the name, BR's website says, "The Morrighan was a Celtic goddess of war that would sometimes take the form of a raven in battle."
