The Weissbierhex is a tiny bar several blocks from the main shopping district in Nurenberg. A locals hangout, it seats about 15 at a wrap around bar and perhaps that many in the corners. It's an over 40 crowd and a full smoking bar; when one sits at the nearly dark bar, one gets a coaster and an ashtray. They are an outlet for the Kuchlbauer Brewery and have all of their products as well as some guests. Although there is a kitchen and signs for barfood, no one eats. The locals don't seem to mind when a stranger comes in, but they do notice.

If you like your bars dark and smoky, this may be the place for you. Smoking is still allowed indoors here. The bar has lots of dark wood, maybe 8 bar stools and 6 tables for four. There are witch decorations around, and some mannequins on an upper story. The second floor has only an office and restrooms. There were a few incongruous Easter eggs and bunnies hanging about as well. I visited in the evening, when there were a few local patrons there. It was so dark I had to squint to read the beer list, and ended up just asking instead. The barkeep, bless her heart, was playing Johnny Cash instead of the ubiquitous 80's pop music.

They serve Kuchlbauer beers. They had pils, helles, weißen, and dunkel on tap. I had the dunkel, which was okay, and a bottle of dunkles weißen, which was better. Of couse, it's hard to smell (or see) your beer here, but it's still a nice little place serving beers that I didn't see elsewhere.

Currently open Mon-Sat, 11am - 1am.
