750ml bottle, best before 2013

A- Slightly murky dark ruby/light brown. 2 fingers of pretty thick head that has great retention throughout the very last sips, though it somehow does not leave a lot of lacing on the glass

S- Dominant dark malts, with caramel and biscuit along with some sugary/yeasty notes. Light background notes of dried/dark fruits, maybe a hint of spiciness

T- Again dominant on the malts side, with a caramel base and some quite strong brown sugar notes. The slightest hint of acidity may be felt among a vaguely dry, cola-like feel (sorry, i can't really find better words to describe this). Some dark fruit notes may be detected as well

M - Medium body and carbonation. Pleasantly smooth but still lively on the palate, a bit more on the dry side on the tongue, with that cola feel that makes you longing for another sip

O- Not your standard dubbel and actually quite a complex brew, showing that industrial bewing does not necessarly means flat and boring. Nicely drinkable, maybe just a bit too much on the malty side to be a perfectly balanced beer. Very nice price/quality ratio

Style/abv: dubbel/9.5%

Smell: very delicate and minute doses of sugar, hops, and nuts

Taste: citrus sweetness alongside subtle cherry notes, bitter hops, herbs (I'm not a chef so I'm not quite sure which type of herbs), and a pan dulce finish

I haven't paired this one with food yet, but I imagine it would go well with a summer or an Italian sausage

750 ml bottle served in a Chimay trappist glass. Pours a reddish brown color, lots of floaties, decent frothy off-white head, good lacing. Aroma is caramel malt, slightly roasted, spices, yeast, and a hint of plum. Flavor is bread and caramel malts, yeast, spicy, dark fruits, and candy sugar. Mouthfeel is medium, dry, fairly carbonated, and a little bitter. Good beer, drinkable.
