First review!!
Poured out of 750ml bottle into tulip glass.
Appearance - Very lively carbonation pours a nice white, one finger head. Dark ruby/brownish in color. Foam clings to my glass, and sticks around through the rest of the experience. Great looking beer!
Smell - Smells rich of ripe, dark fruit. Raisins and plums predominate, with faint toffee and caramel notes in the background. Enticing aroma.
Taste/Mouthfeel - Just what you would expect from the looks and aromas. A good balance of dark fruits and toffee. The carbonation is as lively in the mouthfeel as it looks and the alcohol leaves a warming sensation in the finish. Chewy, delicious. They suggest sipping it slow on the bottle but that is easier said than done!
Overall - A great beer that I feel rewarded to have chosen out of the many other great Belgian doubles on the shelf. Balanced, lively, full of flavor and easily drinkable for the abv. Nice work Affligem I will look for your name in the future.

From bottle at De Bruine Boon in Leiden, NL. First time having a dubbel. Liked it, very drinkable with food, medium body, not too sweet, not too bitter, not the best, but I would drink it again.

Sept. 2011: 330 ml bottle, from Carrefour, Cartagena (Spain). ABV is 6.8%. Dark brown colour, decent off-white head. Nice aroma of brown malts and brown kandij sugar and caramel, also spicy notes of Belgian ale yeast. High level of carbonation in the mouth. Moderately malty and spicy flavour, notes of brown bread and brown kandij sugar, but not very sweet. Nice enough.

De color ambar, con un dedo espumoso de buena retención. De cuerpo medio y carbonatación alta. Aroma afrutado y a caramelo. Sabor ligeramente dulce destacando la malta y el caramelo.

scored an affordable bottle on closeout, i think i can make out 2012 from the label, but not sure how its dated and not sure its fully legible, but thats my guess. in any case its old, but i figured this would hold up well and it surely did. cork comes out with a resounding pop, a nice auburn to light brown color here, a high bug bubble tan head on top with great retention, and some flaky sediment when i get towards the bottom but its not too tough to pour a pretty clear one. the aroma is raisin, slight oxidation, maple, unlit cigar, and amaretto, very complex but also very traditionally belgian, equal parts yeast and rich specialty malts. the flavor is similar, definitely a wet tobacco, or pipe tobacco thing to this, a light kiss of smoke maybe, dried fruit like raisins and figs, trace baking cocoa and cardboard here, also less sweetness than it smells like it should have, the age and the vital yeast has really dried this out well beyond the normal range for the style, and i quite like it. the texture is the best part though, creamy and fizzy and alive and just really well conditioned over time, its soft and drinkable, delicate for what it is, and really makes this beer for me. all who shared the bottle really dug this. i wish their stuff came around a little more, i am surprised to see how few of them i have had over the years. this was awesome!
