Review from notes taken last night. Poured from nitro tap into a clean, clear pint glass at a cost of $4.25.
A Super creamy light brown head over a very dark brown body that let no light through although the light at Fat Head's was not significant. Curtain lacing left on the inside of the glass after repeated sips is awesome. 4.5
S Wow, hazelnut goodness washes over me in a unique beer smell, an incredibly obvious hazelnut goodness. Personally, I really like this smell as it is interesting, inviting. I can imagine that others might find it a bit gimmicky, though. 4.5
T The taste is a lot like hazelnut coffee. Of course you get the Hazelnut sweetness but the dark roast malt in the beer is akin to roasted coffee and the two conspire to deliver a taste that is really close (in a strange way) to Panera's Hazelnut coffee. Anyway, it is a pleasant taste and quite unique. I like what the sweet Hazelnut does for that bitterness that I tasted in the standard Pillage Porter. 4.0
M Super creamy head creates a very smooth feel which is nice but in the end contributes to a Hazelnut coffee comparison as I usually order my Panera Hazelnut coffee with plenty of cream and you can guess what that means...it is not unlike the ultra creamy nitro tap head on this Hazelnut Pillage Porter. 4.0
D Pretty good as the sweet Hazelnut balances out the dark roast malt and I get very little of the bitterness that I found in the standard Pillage Porter. 4.0
Notes: A significant improvement over the standard Pillage Porter since the Hazelnut sweetness is a nice balance to the dark roast malt and bitterness.
