Stopped in here for dinner during a recent stay based off the recommendation of someone at Jose Pistolas.
Atmosphere is good, even if it's somewhat without an identity. Stairs directly in front of the door lead up to the bulk of the place, with a bar along almost the entire wall on the right side and tables on the left. As mentioned above it's cozy however there's nothing terribly distinguishing about it.
Quality is good. All beers are served in proper glassware, at an appropriate temperature, with good amounts of head.
Service is solid. I didn't have to wait long to order food or drink and the server was knowledgeable about what beers were coming on soon.
Selection is good. Out of every place I went this was one of the few that didn't have a sharp focus on local PA brews but they still had a good deal of regional beers. Also on-tap were some harder-to-find Belgians.
Food is solid. I had the fish and chips and enjoyed everything.
Value is about par for the course in Center City. $5 to $6 per beer and $8 to $10 for entrees.
Overall this place is another solid bar in the city but there are a number of places I would hit up before making my way over here. Still, if you're local and are looking for some place new with some beers you may not have seen before it's worth stopping in.

This is a fairly big place with a definte nautical theme running through it. The dark woods and brick make up a cozy feel to the place, and there are plenty of pictures of ships on the walls. Very large bar here. Several TVs are on showing sporting events. Also plentiful and super clean bathrooms here which is always a plus.
There were about 12 beers on tap including such beers as Stoudts Pils, Brooklyn Pennant, Yards Pale, and one from Ommegang. Nothing outrageous or hard to find but if you are looking for a good quality beer you will find it here.
Service for me was friendly and prompt. I did not have any of the food. Overall a comfortable place to have a pint or two.

Final stop while in Philly, the wife and I had about an hour and a half to kill, and this place was really close to where we were staying, so we ducked in for a couple of late afternoon beers.
Cool looking on the inside, long, dark, with a nautical theme, but they pull it off, and it didn't really look cheesy to me. They also said they are expanding outside, which looked like it would be nice for a fall day like we had while we were there.
Quality was good. They had some CA stuff, Founders, and local craft beers as well.
Our server was very cool. She was friendly, chatted with us for a while, and was quick as well.
Selection was on the small side, but the choices they had were solid.
Prices were standard for Philadelphia.
Overall, not a bad little bar, worthy stop.

This place is my favorite place in Philadelphia. Have been going there for the past 4 years and will continue to go. They have great food, local breweries on tap, and a massive bottle selection. They also have a bunch of other liquor but because this is a beer website ill stick to the beer. They have many craft beers on tap from the Pennsylvania, Delaware, areas. Atmosphere is calm, cool, and energetic. Many televisions (plasmas) on the walls. Perfect place to go on Sundays for NFL or watch Phillies, Flyers games. Highly recommend this place to anyone arund Locust and Sydenham.

I really liked this place and I'm not really sure why I haven't gone back yet. There is a nautical theme going on, and overall the place has a good atmosphere. I stopped in with my husband before I went to work and I had one of my favorite brews...Voodoo Cowbell Stout on nitro. Selection wasn't too extensive, but still very high in quality as to what was on tap. All I needed was my Voodoo and I was happy. Service was good...we were pretty much the only people there so we got a lot of attention which was nice since I was pressed for time to get to work.
Food was really good. Comfort food done well. Plenty of choices and the prices were very reasonable for both food and beer. I hope to stop in again here soon...maybe not before work next time so I can really enjoy sitting back and enjoying the brews.

This pub was less than a five minute walk from where I was staying so I went twice during my three days in Philly. The atmosphere is nautical, it does not seem to come together somehow, oh well!.
The tap list is small, 12 I think, but some good offerings. I tried the Voodo Cowbell Stout for two reasons, it was on nitro(sounded cool) and I never heard of it before, I did not like it and I tried the Ithaca Partly Sunny, again not for me but a great hot weather beer.
The food menu is quite interesting, a make your own Mac and Cheese section, which I tried and very good. The other thing I noticed was the house burger, ten bucks, ouch and no cheese thats extra.
With so many pub choices in the area this one is worth a stop but not highly recommended.
UPDATE11/01/2012 I have changed my opinion about this pub. It is expensive, except during happy hour, but it is clean and the staff is friendly and the food is way above pub fare, I love the build your own mac and cheese.. They just re-did the kitchen and rest rooms. When I was there two weeks ago one of the owners, a local lawyer, was there saying hello to everyone he was friends with. So, this is on my regular stop list.

There's definitely a lot to like about this place. I first went during a pretty slow hour, so I didn't get a full feel for the place, but I'll just describe the experience as it was.
Atmosphere is decent. There's a pseudo-nautical theme going on, with a modest amount of decor...it's not like one of those seafood restaurants with walls clogged with crazy sea-faring crap. It's a pretty small/narrow place, with a long bar that seats maybe 20 people or so. Several tables and and large "captain's" booth at the far end. It's tidy anyway.
Beer selection was definitely good; not top notch, but good, with local selections and random micros on tap, and a fairly impressive bottle list. I had a few beers there that I'd never had before, and my wife had one of her favorites (Voodoo Cowbell). The service was fine. Mostly young girls who probably aren't exactly beer gurus, but seemed like they are at least kept up to date with the basic details of the bar's offerings. The food menu was simple and not too extensive, but they have a few atypical items like duck hot dogs and make-your-own mac 'n cheese. I had a French dip that honestly may have been the best I've ever had. Prices were all reasonable, with 5 beers and two meals coming to about $50. I'd definitely stop in if in the area...though Monk's is right around the corner...

The atmosphere blends a nautical theme with touches of modern decor and lighting which leaves a slightly awkawrd feeling upon entering. The ceiling resembles the overturned keel of a boat which is a nice touch.
The beer list has improved over time with the place making a good effort to dish out some crafts that other bars in the city dont readily have available. A decent mix of local and national crafts is standard with BMC items available for those who prefer.
The food trys to be a slightly upscale version of bar food, but comes across as uninspired and sometimes mis executed. The service can be hit or miss as the place has a tendency to get crowded and patrons can be overlooked.
All in all decent if im passing by, but not something i seek out.
