Stopped by this Wegmans (as well as one in Jamestown, NY which somehow is not listed here yet on BA) on a trip 8 28 09 to Lake Chautauqua, NY.
Quality: Well, the highest. There is a great respect for beer here as evidenced by the display as you walk into the store for fresh peaches....there were large bottles of Lindeman's Peche throughout the peaches there. Love it. In many places in this rather large store are 6 and 12 packs of beer, suggesting that the food in the coolers above might go well with the 6 and 12 packs that are displayed near by. We are talking packs of Ommegang, Chimay and some locals, not BMC. The quality of the store itself is superb. My brother's comment was accurate" "It looks like they are ready for the health inspection today." Everything was clean, fresh, amazing.
Service: I did not require much of any service. I just enjoyed "shopping" and finding some great beer.
Selection: In addition to rather standard imports and about 15% BMC they offered:
Smuttynose
Cooperstown Brewing Company
Oskar Blues 6 pack cans
Ommegang
Great Lakes Brewing Company
Southern Tier Brewing Company
Weihetephaner (sp?) "bombers"
Sam Adams (including "longshot" 6 packs
Magc Hat
and many, many others.
Selection could almost not be any better, and is the best of any grocery store that I have seen.
Value: A bit pricey but the selection out weighed that.

Its nice to have a grocery store that has beer. The only thing is you have to purchase the beer at one of two cash registers before leaving the deli section. There are about 4 isles and two fairly large coolers with beer. It was really nice and clean as mentioned. I did not need any help so I don't know how the service is. They had a nice supply of Samual Smith and some other imports. Sam Adams, Victory, Troegs, Weyerbacher, Voo Doo, Ommegang and some other Belguims. Along with a good supply of Busch, Bud, Coors and other macros. I bought some Anchor Steam, my wife got some Frambroise by Lindamans. Prices were very reasonable.

I stopped in here when visiting Erie. This is the second Wegmans that I have visited. I gotta say that I love these stores. This one in particular was like the other. A very nice well rounded selection of good beers.
Of course, all the local PA beers were represented. Anything from Voodoo to Stoudts to Troegs. They also had a nice selection of imports as well. A real nice selection of Lindemans as well.
They have coolers to get some cold ones from. And they have an even larger selection of warm ones as well.

Wegmans was already my grocery store of choice. This just gives me a reason not to shop anywhere else.
I'll make this short and sweet.
Their prices beat everyone else in Erie. They listen to their customers. They're carrying all of the local breweries. They have beer that I've never seen in Erie until now. And in the spring they're putting in 50 feet of coolers and are going to allow mixed six packs.
Some breweries that they carry include...Troegs, Victory, Great Lakes, Southern Tier, Green Flash, Sierra Nevada, Rogue, Redhook, Stoudt's, Weyerbacher, Flying Dog, Thirsty Dog, Sam Smith's, Sam Adams, Great Divide, Bell's, Fuller's, Belhaven, Oomegang, Clipper City, and many more.

Nice surprise, even though I was told how good it was, Very clean and tidy, every bottle and 6 pack in it's place, A very large selection, I only wish they could get Goose Island.
The 1 person who asked if they could help was very knowledgeable, and we ended up talking for a Half hour, I hope he didn't get into trouble.
The food smelled and looked incredible(for that type of buffet style food). several people eating but not drinking beer?
It will be my next stop for beer....and the one on rt. 20 is even closer to my house here in Ohio, which has a slightly smaller selection.

i've been in here many times to grab bottles and the best thing it has going for it is convenience. i do not like the new aisle set up compared to the old one, its more jumbled and harder to find things now. anyway, the selection is pretty good, but u pick 6 up the road definitely has a better and more diverse selection. that being said, if you're looking for anything mainstream or easy to find, they will have it here, and at a really decent price. i think their prices are the best in the area. i've never had much interaction with the staff, other than at check out, but that's fine. its nice to be able to look around and not be hassled by someone who probably doesn't know much about beer. all in all, a good spot to pick up some bottles, but you know you are in a grocery store, typically have to park far away, but have great prices.

I used to live in VA so for a long time I had a hard time not being able to peruse the Beer/Wine sections of a grocery store. That has all changed now for me in Erie - at least somewhat.
Due to PA law Wegmans had to set up this facility as a Six-Pack shop, which inherently means that it needs to also be a bar. So, Wegmans had to section off it's store from the Cafe and "zone" them differently to allow for this to happen. For all of the hoop jumping here, they managed to pull it off nicely.
The facility is located in a slightly crowded area of the store, and you may have some trouble navigating your cart to the beer shelves. I would recommend buying your beer before you even pick up your cart and take the beer out to your vehicle.
The service... I didn't have to deal with them, but I will awesome they are at least average. One thing that I will note is that they didn't appear to have a way to create mixed six packs, this is slightly disappointing.
The selection is amazing compared to everything else I have seen around the region. It is like they took all of the craft/micro and import beer from all the other locations that I have frequented and put them on the shelves here. They have a great selection of bombers as well. I am a big fan of bombers and I tend to buy 1 or 2 with every beer purchase.
Not only do they have an excellent selection but their prices are by far the best you will find for beer of this quality as well. Local beer shops are going to have a hard time competing with Wegmans once the word gets out a bit more. Just for a comparison, Chimay Red at the House of Beer is about 14 dollars at Wegmans it is 12. Micro six packs at house of beer are priced between 12 and 15 dollars, at Wegmans they are all 11.75.
This is where I will be shopping for beer from now on, and I would make a guess that everyone else in the region will come around to this idea as well.

Stopped here on our Yuengling run from MI to PA. Needless to say I was impressed with their selection of beers. They had all of the macros and different crafts that we cannot get in MI or OH. They had a Smithwicks tasting and it was nice to get some free samples unlike MI or OH. Being that they had the restaurant as part of the grocery store it was nice to get a six pack of something at a decent price instead of paying bar prices. We will hit this place up on our next Yuengling run. Our most pleasant surprise is not paying sales tax on beer in PA.

I love Wegman's. Great selection for a grocery store, plus the mix-and-match selection is good at times. Other times it is a bunch BMC junk. Always worth checking out though. Wegmans was a leader when it came to making craft beer easily to get in Erie, PA.

Wegmans beer has been up and running for just shy of a year and has not failed to impress. With a current selection approaching 500 varieties they clearly haven't just become another nickel and dime 6 pack shop. With over 3/4 of the beer selections being craft, micro, and imports the big name piss-water beers are relegated to one small cooler section. Prices are lower than most around, cheapest Lambics I've ever seen, and by its continually growing. On top of the selection, Wegmans hosts frequent beer and food pairings sampling upto 6 different beers/foods at a time. Awesome place to get your hands on the best beers available to the region.
