Tap pull at the brewery in Salt Lake City.
Nice looking glassful. Fluffy foam tops clear golden brew.
Nose lacks for me; the pungent hop slam I expect from great Euro pils just isn’t there.
Taste is Urquell junior. They got the yeast right, but could really use a bigger dose of malt, and the hop lacks the punch I hoped for. It is crisp, but that feature wanes as the dinner plate empties. Dry, mild, little sweet, finish.
Mouth is watery to medium, there is medium carbonation.
Overall, a fine a compliment to a plate of heavy, eastern European food.

Pours a darker shade of pale, mostly see through with slight haze; white head that fades fast leaving little in the form of retention, some coagulated islands of froth but mostly just a ring.
The initial nose on this beer just yells Czech pils to me...herbal and black pepper like spice hops, a light but noticeable fresh baked bread aroma, a very subtle kiss of honey like sweet as it warms. We line dry a lot of our laundry and the smell of it is intoxicating; sometimes a pils like this really has that same sort of fresh and intoxicating smell to me.
Taste is nice and hop forward; very grassy in nature less spice and herbal than the nose, very light malt presence but noticeable; again a minor and incredibly dry honey like sweetness on the finish.
Mouthfeel is light but with a little heft/heaviness to it, creamy and smooth carbonation, tongue parching dryness, with lingering grassy bitterness on the finish.
Really enjoyed this one, a highly drinkable czech pils, that leans a little sweet and heavy on feel.

a fully serviceable if unremarkable lager here, crisp enough, fresh tasting to me, and with all of the elements on display in the flavor, but maybe a shade heavier than the most refreshing examples of the style, and lacking somewhere just slightly, although its hard to pinpoint. yellow and frothy in the glass, plenty of carbonation here, some lace left behind after each sip, looks the part. smells dry but slightly toasted on the grain side, almost a baked breadiness to the malt, not rich or anything, but fuller for the style i reckon. some noble hops add a little fresh grassiness, and i also can appreciate an old world european lager yeast strain here. all of this is there in the flavor too, and it comes together well. the ferment is clean and there is a nice mineral profile and finishing bitterness from the hops. it goes down a notch heavier than some, but has a lot of appeal still too, and is very fresh to me overall. nice with spicy wings, a good start to our vacation this weekend, and a rather authentic take on the style overall. perhaps a little better than its ratings here...

This is a nice beer in the real Bohemian tradition. The brewery is one of the best I've been to anywhere, all of the beers brewed there are true to their heritage. When comparing to Urquell, in my opinion the benchmark pilsner, this one lacks slightly in the malt level and I can't tell the hops they are using, but doesn't seem to be the Saaz, it also could benefit from a small increase in ABV, but nonetheless a great beer and one I purchase often, especially for parties and gathering because everyone seems to like it.

Golden color, clear, and bubbly. It has a strong malty, yeasty smell - like every good Czech pilsner. The taste is smooth and yeasty, with a bitter finish. Slightly dry mouthfeel. It's an enjoyable beer, but at the end of the day, just stick to Urquell.

[Original rating 2016-01-08] Can. Label says 1842 and looks just like the picture for ’Bohemian Brewery 1842 Czech Pilsener’ but that one says draft only. Maybe they recently started putting 1842 in cans?. Clear gold, thick white head. Looks like a pilsener. Smells like a pilsener. Tastes like a pilsener. Not bad but nothing special.

First had a couple of years ago at Alta Ski Area, Utah, poured from 12-oz. can into clear plastic beer cup, and again this year at Snowbasin Resort, Utah, on draft into clear plastic beer cup, and Solitude Mountain Resort, Utah, poured from 12-oz. can into pilsner glass. Except for that last can, which was definitely off, Bohemian's (1842) Pilsener (Czech Style) is a solid effort.
