Went here on recommendation from a local craft beer buddy. Plenty of good beer choices although they were out of the one my buddy recommended.

Anyway, I ended up with a yummy IPA and a Purple Haze which both went perfectly with the pizza.

Pizza is awesome. My wife loved the hippie atmosphere and food. We split a pizza and I had two beers for 50$, so we thought it was on the pricey side.

We sat outside and service was as expected. No smoking on the patio helped us enjoy the meal too. We'll go back for sure.

I always like stopping at various Mellow Mushroom locations because the pizza is always good and their tap lists are solid. This particular location has a cool vintage, 70's hippie kinda vibe going. There's also outdoor seating available which is always nice. Great neighborhood and also very proximal to alot of hotels if you're in town on business.

Mellow Mushroom combines a superior selection of pizzas and beer in a very friendly atmosphere.

Any visit made you can expect to find a great pizza, and a great selection of both draft and bottled beers.

The decor of the place is based on the Grateful Dead, and much of the menu has Dead-influenced names. Don't let the theme fool you: they make excellent pizza that does not need gimmicky names to sell it: fresh ingredients, great toppings, and overall yummy sauce and crust make this a place worthy to visit for the pizza alone.

Found this place while I was visiting family in Ohio. Was told to go there from a local purveyor of fine beers and I am glad that I did. It was surprising for me to return to Ohio and find such a place with a wide variety of beers.

At first sight of the bartender I was not sure that she would be well informed due to her age, but I was impressed when she started rattling off beers that I should taste and their profiles. She also let me know of upcoming releases they were supposed to be having.

The experience was so enjoyable, that I returned for a second time in my short visit in Ohio, and needless to say, there was a different bartender, and h was just as knowledgable as the first.

The selection was great and varied. Available were such as Stone, Bells, Great Lakes, Thirsty dog, Troeggs, rogue, just to name a few.

I would recommend that you stop in and check it out if you are traveling through or live in the central Ohio area.

*A little re-reviewing here: knocking down some points on service (very uneven: if you get the occasional guy who knows his beers it is great, otherwise it can easily stink) and value (pizza really is too expensive).*

My wife and I were driving to BJ's Brewhouse over at Polaris Mall in Greater Columbus when she suddenly said, "let's go to the Mellow Mushroom instead!". Up until then, I had only heard about this place having good pizza. The wife is like, "the tap list might not incredible but they do have a large bottle list".

Well, turns out they sport 36 beers on tap, almost all of them craft offerings, and many of them rare. I had Flying Dog Double Dog and Horn Dog, both of which are not easily available anywhere. Also a good number of Bell's, a couple of Rogue's, Brooklyn... I was surprised. Excellent selection!

Their food is mostly pizza, of course. Not my favorite, but fine to go with beer. Dough/crust is a little too thick, and ingredients are not the best, but you could do much worse around here.

Service seems to be hit-or-miss. We sat out on the patio and our server was flaky and didn't know much about beers. Then we moved in to the bar and the guy was spot-on! He had traveled to Denver to visit microbreweries, knew his stuff and was fun talking to him.

Prices are not bad- $6.50 for a barleywine, but a full pint!
I enjoyed the atmosphere too, casual but fun, mostly Bud-drinking types, but still good. Can't wait to go back and try more of their taps!

This place is a combination of a sports bar with large flat screens all over the place and a stoner place. Pretty interesting for sure.

Service was pretty slow and she didn't have the best knowledge of what beers they had.

Selection wise they had quite a few taps. A lot of Bells, Founders, and Avery. Probably the most Avery taps I've seen in one place. Quite a few bottles here too. The beer list seemed out dated too. We had to order a couple of beers before we were able to get one.

Pizza was great, but a little on the expensive side.

Gourmet pizza shops are beginning to pop up all over town. Mellow Mushroom is one of the best.

It is located at the end of a tiny strip mall off Polaris Parkway, but not over towards the mall where everything is too hectic. It has its own little parking lot, not very big but parking has never been an issue.

The inside is pretty interesting. It is decked out in a hippie theme. There are homages to Salvador Dali, The Grateful Dead, Jim Morrison, Hunter S. Thompson and more. In the center of the restaurant there is a huge wooden psychedelic mushroom. Naturally, classic rock and 60's-70's music is featured.
The pizza dough is tossed into the air by the cooks that work just behind an open counter.

Just like everywhere, the bar taps rotate, but many seem to be semi permanent beers. During my last visit yesterday there were about 5 Bell's taps, Double Cream Stout, Pale Ale, Oberon, Two Hearted and Lager of the Lakes. Above that there is Founder's Seasonals, this time was Double Trouble, Flying Dog Seasonals, Horn Dog Barleywine, Thirsty Dog, Columbus Brewing Company Hop Odyssey, The Brew Kettle (Ive never seen this on tap anywhere before). Plenty of bottles are available also, but nothing phenomenal. Some highlights were Celebrator and 60 and 90 min.

Yesterday the service was slow. It was pretty busy when we got there at about 1:30. Our waiter said it was his second day and he was having problems keeping everything straight. While our order was correct and everything, we werent able to finish and leave before 3:00.

There are a few other gourmet pizza shops in Columbus and many of them feature a lot of good beer, but this one is one of my favorites. If you are out in Polaris and in the mood for pizza or a decent pint, this is worth a stop.

This place has (IMO) a lot of things going for it: pretty tasty pizza, reasonable prices, a family friendly environment, a lengthy and rotating beer list on both draft and in bottles, and most importantly - it is a short drive from my house. I've lived in C-bus for four months and I've been to this location a half-dozen times already.

I think "sanitized stoner vibe" (used by Dogbrick) brilliantly sums up the atmosphere of the place. While that is a little hollow in the authenticity department, I probably wouldn't bring my toddler to a place with an unsanitized stoner vibe, greatly limiting the frequency of my visits!

Here's what I don't care for here (this is a short list): pizza can take 30 minutes or more due to a lack of ovens (yet they are a restaurant specializing in pizza...) - this is partially offset for me by a very good meatball appetizer, this place can get very crowded and the hostess stand doesn't necessarily deal with that in a very efficient way, and they rotate their long tap list frequently (that's good!) but I think they are still working with the same beer list they had when they opened (I hate this) and your server will frequently make 3-4 trips to the bar before you finally ask for something they have.

My family and visitors like this place, so I imagine I will keep returning - and that's OK with me...despite my gripes, I like it here.

Visited this newly-opened restaurant over the weekend and early indications are it is a good fit for the area. It is located on Polaris but on the other side of I-71, so away from the mall traffic. There is a decent-sized private lot in the plaza.

The interior has a sanitized stoner vibe. Grateful Dead bears and psychadelic colors are offset by flat screen TVs and sports bar-type accoutrements. The bar is toward the center of the space, with restaurant seating everywhere else.

The beer selection is pretty impressive. There are around 36 taps with local/regional brewers like Columbus Brewing, Great Lakes, Bell's and Buckeye represented. Other craft brewers like Stone, Rogue, Lagunitas, Harpoon etc are also represented. As for bottles there are around 80, again with good regional/national craft brewer representation. As for imports there are a couple from the UK, Belgium and Germany primarily.

Service was pretty slow on a Saturday between lunch and dinner. It should be noted that my original pint of Hopslam was replaced with a mug that was a good 2oz smaller than a pint. Not a big deal maybe, but with a table of 10 people and $4-$4.50 a pint it adds up. They either need to get more glassware, wash it faster or adjust prices accordingly. Hopefully they will work the kinks out soon, but contrasted with the other new pizza/beer place I visited last week (Dewey's), Mellow Mushroom seemed to be less organized.

As for the pizza, it is good. I tried the White pizza and it was enjoyable.

Overall I would recommend visiting this place on the north end of Columbus. Despite some minor complaints they are continuing the trend of opening new restaurants with a serious consideration in stocking good beers.
