This string is redundant unless we split the 3 vintages...99, 2000, 2001...I will just fillout this minimun review character requirement by saying that those who have tasted the 2000 and 1999 vintages start separate rating threads for these vintages...as they all age differently and tasting these ales 3-6 years down the line will vary widely. I was also informed that each vintage is different using slightly different recipies and yeasts.

2000 Bottle - Drank December 2003. Dark ruby brew with nice foamy head with good retention. Aroma is almost like port, almost smell grapes with strong alcohol. Taste is also really apparent to port with a medium body. Alcohol taste is well hidden which is good since some barley wine alcohol taste are sometime too apparent. Overall, a really good brew and here's hoping that Mcauslan will continue this tradition.

Medium brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty with a touch of smoke. Big malty barleywine. Very smooth taste. Woody and smoky, reminiscent of a bourbon or a scotch. Well balanced. Hides the 10.2% alcohol well. Soft flavors. Very nice beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is clean and smooth.

Appearance: 341ml bottle. Pours a glorious amber with a generous head. Year 2000. This beer was aged for 3 years until now...i acidentaly dropped it on the floor and there was some leakage...had to open it!

Smell: Holy sh*t!!! Toffee sweetness in the nose. Bubble-gum and lollipop candiness. Rich and over-ripened fruits are present highlighted by apricot and peach. Underlying hints of raw sugar and honey.

Taste: Enormously sweet and malty off the top. Huge caramel sweetness followed by a bourbon-like complexity. Hidden fruitiness and light spiceiness followed by a woody character that might be found in scotch. The sweetness lingers and turns towards a woody-dry finish. Plenty of alcohol kick on the tongue.

Mouthfeel: Lively and rich. Plenty of active carbonation going on here. A fuzzy mouthfeel that lingers and turns toeards a dry finish.

Drinkablilty: CLASSIC! Wow, holy sh**t. I was suposed to wait another 2 yrs to drink this baby but wow! i accidentally dropped it on the floor and HAD TO open it as there was a small air leak around the cap. This beer is outstanding and complex. WORLD CLASS!!!
