Deep brown, scant lacing, good carbonation. Aroma has some warm phenols, cola, dark plum, a little pumpernickel malt underneath, caramel. Great elements but it doesn't congeal - a tad too phenolic upfront, it loses some of the subtler flavors you can coax out of that approach, the malt doesn't express itself as much as I'd like, there is a nice seam of caramel / treacle throughout, a little oakiness, ends a little hoppy for my preference in a winter warmer. All in all the sum is less than the parts but it is a decent enough beer.

2013 Edition

A: Poured into a snifter to a deep mahogany with a small light tan head that fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of sticky toffee, dark fruits with some plum notes and some light spices
T: Taste is toffee, toasted malts with a little coffee, dark fruits and spices with some light caramel sweetness on the back end. Slight alcohol as well. Swallow is more toffee, a little more toasted malt, those dark fruits and some spices to bring things to a close with a little lingering sweetness
M: The beer is fairly full in body with soft carbonation that is adequate for the style and the beer has a drying finish
O: Overall this beer is pretty solid. It has held up well and I'm sure it likely tasted pretty good when fresh as well. The flavors and complexity of the beer are good but the alcohol could be hidden a bit better considering the beer is sub 10%.

a tasty brew, the first I have had from these guys. its fashioned as a winter warmer meets a Belgian dubble or quad, it has elements of both. very sturdy malt base to the crimson colored ale, definitely fashioned like these Belgian styles with all the grain layers. notes of dried cherry and fig, molasses, and brown sugar. it also has a distinct Belgian yeast character to it, more mild than some, but with the grain here, its very Belgian overall, adding spice and depth. then there are the winter warmer elements, which start with orange peel for me, bitter and sweet and citrusy, sort of cutting through the grain sugar and balancing out the sweet a bit. it also have faint clove notes, which are either added in small doses or a flavor from the yeast that's popping through. the body is only medium and the carbonation is good. very well hidden alcohol for this strength, and as a result it drinks dangerously easy, especially on a chilly winter afternoon. I like that its not overly spiced or anything, a more approachable take on the winter warmer style due to the Belgian elements making it feel a bit more traditional

My Belsnickler was bottled on 11/11/11 (F1272) (also marked as 9%ABV) and drunk during the Transit of Venus. This is decently made beer and tasted fine. I don't know about the staying power of these beers but it looks like it's held together pretty well. I enjoy their products and hope the project on Northampton St. is a success. What a site for a biergarten !

The Breaker website calls Belsnickler a Quad. Although the abv is less than the typical quad I wouldn't argue as to the style.
The bottle was a 22 ounce form the Georgetown Deli. Thanks to Tom D for the great Christmas gift.
It pours a chestnut brown but red hints are very obvious when you hold the glass up to the light. Cloudy but not murky, no chunks. A nice tan ring hangs on for a long time.
The smell is sweet and a little malty, smells like raisin bread. I really enjoy the aroma. The taste doesn't quite match up with the smell it starts sweet but finishes bitter, but it does warm you up all the way down.
Its a sipper and an enjoyable one at that. Good luck to the guys at Breaker, and I will look for this one again next year.

Finally had the opportunity to taste Breaker Brewing CO's much touted Holiday Winter Warmer "Belsnickler" the other evening at a Christmas party gathering...The crowd was jovial and glowing and so was the Belsnickler. First off our hostess slowly poured the"Snickler"into my private pint glass "retrieved from a curbstone on Trafalgar Square,London back in the day"(The glass not the Belsnickler) and the slow pour produced a modest head of rich beige foam which slowly dissipated... Nose and flavors were an incredible, intoxicating, rich fruity combination of candy sugars, malts & yeasts.I believe I could taste wild cherries and had visions of Olde Scottish Plum puddings wafting through the mix,no doubt from my youthful days of Darts with the locals at the Argyle pub in Sandbank, Scotland...All of this topped off with just the right amount of carbonation to compliment the brew.A smooth Gaelic type of beer, with rich, beautiful mahogany tones, not too strong, and that makes it perfect for a Cold Snowy Winter's eve.Oh yes,one other note, the lassies all love it...Go figure.
Definitely a winner from the Boys at Breaker Brewing Company...Cheers!
