look: 4.25 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.5
Appearance: Pours a sunny light orange to copper…very bright…thick, whitish head formed about a finger width thick and remained…transparent in nature, I can see some bubble action in the middle…a good lookin’ brew…(4.25/5)
Smell: Pineapple, orange citrus hops notes balanced with plenty of grassy/bready/barley malt aroma…some earthy hops spice bite, but very malty for an IPA overall…has a touch of cheap beer bitterness to it…some light floral tones in there as well…good, but not pungent…(3.5/5)
Taste: Earthy, piney, mildly robust hops up front and throughout…it really does run the garden as far as hops flavors go: earthy, piney, mildly citrus, mildly floral/herbal…earthy/grassy/bready/barley flavored malt that does compliment well and is noticeably different that the traditional sweet caramel malts most brewers are using in their IPA’s these days…the more I drink, the more the grassy/floral hops show and leave any piney/citrus hops flavor that may have been present earlier…something though for me is off…(3.5/5)
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation…fluffs up bringing light, grassy bitterness to the palate…has a cheaper beer (a cheaper beer with tremendous mouthfeel) taste when this happens, but it isn’t necessarily a turnoff…wet, smooth, mildly robust…tons of earthy/grassy bitterness on the palate in the after taste that lingers…the carbonation and bitterness are as expected, I just don’t prefer the grassy tinge that comes along…(3.25/5)
Overall: This is a good beer, but now that I’m reading the bottle, I know why I don’t necessarily find it to be a “great beer” and that’s the Northwest hops…I should have known that this was a NW IPA by the copper color, but the taste really is identifiable…there’s an earthy robustness to this beer that I do like but the addition of roses and bergamot have added a floral/grassiness that turns me off a bit…it’s definitely worth sticking in a mix-a-six for experimentation, but I would have a hard time finding room in my heart (and fridge) for an entire sixer…if you like the NW hops flavor, this one is for you, otherwise, venture elsewhere…(3.5/5)

From a 355 ml purple can. Pours out a hazed yet bright copper hue, lots of carbonation culminating in a tall frothy ivory head with excellent retention. Sticky coral-like lacing.
Slightly bready malt on the nose, lemon and grapefruit rind present as a citrus element. Some grassy and pine notes as well.
Sweet bready malt up front in the flavour, herbal, citrusy, spicy hops on the back end. Well-balanced.
Medium-bodied mouthfeel, velvety smooth texture, with moderate carbonation.
A clean and well-balanced IPA, that's where the strength of this one lies, making it a very drinkable example of the style without being a lopsided hop-bomb.

Comes in a wonderful cloudy amber color. Just a beautiful looking beer. There isn’t much head nor aroma. I smell some hops, but it’s gentle.
There are some grapefruit flavor in a fresh bright tickle. There’s that West Coast piney flavor that IPAs over there have.
There isn’t too much of a body and unfortunately, the flavor falls off the tongue all too fast. There’s a bit of bitterness at the end, but that’s it. It has some spot on West Coast IPA IPA flavors, but it lacks a bit of depth. I would surely love it to just session as you can keep going in for more. Then again, there's something about that, which so attractive.

12 fl oz. can with no apparent canned on date present. Interesting that this beer is also packaged in bottles, as I have only seen the cans available here in Illinois. My fifth review of a beer coming from a can!
Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.
A - Pours a beautiful cloudy burnt sienna orange color with a finger of doughy off-white head. Very appealing scattered lacing.
S - Can smell it from a distance. Juicy citrus grapefruit / orange hops, and a healthy dose of pine.
T - Lightly bitter / fruity hops and sweet bready malts in the foreground. Nicely balanced, to be sure, although I would have thought it would have been more bitter judging by the smell. Sweet tea leaf taste in the finish. Very nice light bodied feel and wonderful balance. Extremely tasty.
M - Some sticky hop resins lingering, but all in all, a smooth, clean, creamy feel. More bitterness present in the aftertaste, than when I was drinking it almost.
Overall, a delicious beer, my first offering from Anderson Valley Brewing Co., definitely looking forward to trying more. Highly drinkable stuff, with a nice 7.00% abv that isn't noticeable at all. I would be interested in having this beer from the bottle also, and seeing how it differs from the canned version, if at all. Regardless, it's a beer I will definitely try again.

12 ounce bottle -> Sam Adams Perfect Pint.
This beer pours up an amazing clear deep gold with a very fluffy off white two finger head. Retention was unbelievable. I sipped this one and even an hour later there was still a visible head. Lacing rings stuck to the glass in beautiful ringlets. Nose is citrus, earthy pine, and resin. Taste is a powerful malt well balanced with a wonderful citrus hoppiness to finish. Mouthfeel is amazing with just the right amount of carbonation. This one needs to be sought out if you have never had it before.

12 oz can from jungle jims Fairfield, poured into snifter.
Appearance- aggressively pours light apricot with a thick off-white foam head, lacing is all over this glass. 4.25
Aroma-citrus fruits, mostly orange and grapefruit, pine sap, a little brown sugar, great smell. 4.25
Taste- very piney, grapefruit is there, I'm getting maple syrup too, creamy orange sherbet. 4.25
Feel-light in feel, average hop bitterness, cleanses but leaves your mouth dry, I thought it would be more watery but its not. 4
Overall-take the time to pour this in a glass instead of drinking out of the can and you will be rewarded with a fresh tasting woodsy IPA. Quite refreshing and easy drinking. Price on this is cheaper then most craft IPA's of this caliber and cans are a dollar cheaper for the same amount of beer then the bottle version. 4.25

12oz bottle into a tulip glass.
A - a nice coppery color. Lacing was light, white, a a touch foamy.
S - classic ipa. Citruis, grapefruit, little grass in there.
T - really nice hop/malt balance. The sweetness is there but kept at bay, and you get tht nice bite from the hops but its not unpleasantly piney like a new Sierra Nevada Pale is
M - best part of this beer. Substantial without getting heavy, piney, or syrupy. Finishes amazingly clean. Definitely easy to session this beer.
O - a great example of an American IPA. I got this as a single in a craft beer six pack mix and plan on looking for more of it.

Poured into a pint glass.
A - Dark amber color, two finger foam white head. Great lacing. It felt as if it stayed on the glass for ages
S - The aroma of hops almost knocked me back. Great smelling beer. Very hoppy smell with a hint of malt towards the end. I got a lot of pine smell out of it with a little bit of citrus. Very piney smell overall.
T- Excellent taste, bitter and quite sweet. Signs of malt but again, the presence of pine was overwhelming. Fantastic finish as well.
M - A little bubbly and medium body I would say. Not extremely heavy.
O - Wonderful beer. Honestly, I was blown away. This is one of the best IPA's I have had the pleasure of trying. Will definitely get this beer again.

Holy pine forest batman!
A: The color was a dark amber with a nice foamy finger size head. Some retention, with nice lacing.
S: Excellent hop smell as soon as I popped the top. Once poured into a tulip glass the hop smell faded slightly and the malt presence became more pronounced.
T: As mentioned above, wow, what a blast of pine up front. Very resinous, and piney on the palate at first and then recedes into a nice malt backbone. A great mingling of bitter and sweet.
M: Bubbly on the mouthfeel, with a resin coating as it makes it way down.
O: Very nice IPA. Again, what hit me the most was how piney this IPA is. The malt at the end finishes it off perfectly. I would certainly buy this again.

12oz bottle into tulip.
A - Bright amber with a huge rocky white head. Lots of sticky lacing.
S - Floral and grassy hops dominate with a little citrus and pine. Hints of caramel malt and grapefruit.
T - Juicy citrus and grapefruit combine with waves of grassy and piney hops. The hops lend a sharp mild bitterness that is balanced by a bready caramel malt backbone. Finishes earthy and grainy with a lingering breadiness.
M - Smooth, creamy, a bit sticky. Medium bodied, crisp and refreshing. Mild carbonation, dry finish.
O - A delicious, balanced IPA. Great hop presence throughout, with a strong malt backbone. This could easily become a go-to IPA for me. Alcohol is masked very well.

A - Pours a beautiful copper/caramel/orange with light orange on the edges. Nice inch and a half of rocky light tan head that shrinks moderately to a nice thin topper. Lace piles on down the tumbler.
S - Hop first nose smacks of floral goodness. Some caramel toasty malt as well but it's all about the hops on this one.
T - Nice juicy hops with various floral and herbal notes. Piney and resiny in the background. Malt underlies nicely with bread and caramel/toffee accents . Slightly bitter on the finish with a clean dry hop finish.
MF - Somewhere past medium bodied, nice carbonation, good finish.
A solid malt backbone with a great hop profile. Essentially a dry-hopped amber that does everything right.

Pours from the can hazy amber with a good two finger chunky head. Leaves thick lacing all over the glass, retention is just about average. Appealing.
Caramel malt, fruit sweetness like that of pears, tangerine and white grape juice. Hops hidden amongst the sweetness, slight pine, more oranges and herbal bitter tones.
Sweet malt, rather sticky with sugary white fruit, candied pears, clementines and vinous fruit like white grapes. Hops are understated here presenting garden vegetable dirt, pine and herb flavor on the back end with a decent amount of bitterness, not enough to completely dry the stickiness of the malt. Alcohol mingles with the bitter finish and a metallic twinge.
Light ipa, a bit chalky on the finish and sticky. Average carbonation.
A bit bothersome that the hops present themselves only in the bitterness department, the malt profile while sticky is nicely complex. Light drinker that is easy to put down, just not what I like in an IPA.

Pours a slightly cloudy copper with a thick, chunky head that sticks to the cup. Flavor is fine here, piney and quite bitter but with good balance, and a very well crafted soft mouth feel. Not an incredibly distinct IPA but a very good reproduction of the style. An any time solid choice at a bar or from the bottle.

A: Murky. Burnt orange. Huge fluffy head.
S: Floral, resin, pine, caramel, malt
T: Sweet, floral and caramel upfront. Actually quite a bit of floral. A sweeter IPA but ends with with a resiny quality (though not a punch to the taste buds). ABV is very well hidden.
M: On the thinner side for me.
O: A very good IPA. I enjoyed it and will enjoy another one.

Poured from a 12oz can into a plastic pint glass at Taco Asylum in Costa Mesa, Calif. Reviewed from notes.
A- Two finger off-white head. Long retention, creamy head. Orange-brown color. Nice carbonation and lacing. Some particles floating about. Thin lacing.
S- Strong, bitter citrusy hops, grapefruit and bitter citrus. Caramel malts peek through at the end of the smell. Sugary as well.
T- Bittering hop forward with a solid malt backbone. Sweet flavors finish off.
M- Medium in body, maybe a tad over-carbonated and a dry finish.
O- Hoppy and medium bodied IPA. Not great, but no weakness.

had this in a can, poured into a glass.
color was great, a deep, cloudy amber.
head was great, poured an inch at least, and laced very well.
smell, for me, was hard to pick up. nothing jumped out at me as the IBUs would suggest.
Taste was very flavorful. started with a piney hops taste, then had a bitter dry feel, then a bold malt flavor. finished dry and bitter.
it had a full feel to it.
overall, as a hop head, i think i expected too much when i saw "80 IBU". to me it had more of a malty characteristic. the flavor was good, very well crafted, but not what i was expecting. a solid offering, but not for the hop head.

12oz to a pint glass. There is a picture of a bear with antlers on my beer.
Pours a very vivid golden copper with a finger of foam. Mild carbonation, lacing isn't bad. Retention could be a bit better, though
Nose is pretty spot on for an ipa. Strong juicy hops, pine, grapefruit and some citrus with some sweet malts present. Although it smells pretty good, the smell is pretty muted and I have to really stick my nose into the glass to get a good scent. Not very pungent, the only fault I find with the aroma
Taste follows the nose pretty well, hops, pine, grapefruit, come together with a bready malt. Nice bitterness, great ipa taste.
Feel is nice also, crisp and medium bodied, nice tingle on the tongue. Rounded wet sticky finish
Overall a good west coast ipa. Not the best by any means, but definitely does the style justice. I pick a six pack of this up every now and again, never disappointed

Pored from a 12 fl oz bottle into a snifter.
Color : Amber to slight copper. About two finger thick off-white head that persists really well - in fact it stays forever. Leaves an excellent lacing. Slightly hazy appearance. Very few bubbles.
Aroma: Citrus and piney hops upfront. Moderately strong. Solid malt backbone. Very floral and dry hopped aroma.
Taste: Bitter upfront with citrus and pine like flavor. Medium hop bitterness but good aftertaste. Lingering effects of hops are just moderate. Malt sweetness is felt to an appropriate extent. Dry bitter finish.
Mouth feel : Medium bodied. Slightly oily feel. No alcohol is felt. No astringency. Well balanced IPA.

Personal Rate: 4.25
A good American IPA overall with just enough alcohol strength. I like it but nothing distinct about it.

Nice amber color with attractive dense foamy head. Smells sweet and malty. Flavor is filled with hops with berry esters. Seafood. Well carbonated leads to a medium-light mouthfeel. Slightly boozy with medium bitterness on the middle of the tongue.
Overall: I was nervous upon the smell of this IPA that it would be syrupy and sweet, my least favorite characteristics of an IPA. It was indeed sweeter than I like, but the lightness of it made it more tolerable. I appreciate the strength of the hops in this one, but the overwhelming sweetness of the malts make it one I will not be picking up again.

Poured into my Mayr's Brauerei Seidel mug.
Beautiful creamy head of a few fingers that lingers on forever and leaves great lacing. Body is a very clear amber showing lots of fine carbonation.
smells of citrus, hops, and something sweet and fruity, is it banana?
Has a strong hop-bitter taste but once you are beyond that you can find more. For example this fruity sweet something of the bananaesque smell.
Carbonation is lower than expected and not burpy at all. Very refreshing but at the same time warming. Very light on the tongue without being watery.
More complex than you usually have in an IPA. The typical bitterness that you expect from your IPA is there but there is a very complex flavor as well

Appearance: Wonderful white foam with excellent lacing, possibly the best of any IPA. Copper in color, as the bottle claims.
Smell: Pine and resin. Herbal perfume smell. Flowers and some grapefruit and caramel. This would be a 5 if it were a tad bolder.
Taste/Mouthfeel: Strong strong grapefruit. Flowers in the background. Chamomile, grass, and orange peel are also evident. There is a spice, but I can't quite pinpoint it. Possibly nutmeg, which I gather from the smell as well. There's an extra bitterness at the bottom that's quite yeasty. Not the cleanest mouthfeel, but it fits with the rest of the beer: elegant yet somehow unrefined.
Overall Drinkability: Very boozy, but it doesn't smell/taste as such. A surprising IPA, and one that I will look for in the future.

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle with no date code into a pint glass and got a 1 1/2 fingers of off-white head.
A: Pours a golden color and looks like honey. There is a 1 1/2 finger head that dissipates somewhat but covers the top to the end. Beautiful and abundant sticky lace.
S: Smells like grapefruit and pine and some floral scents in the background.
T: Taste follows smell: grapefruit and pine.
M: I have a pine oil feeling in my mouth and tongue. Although it is smooth, it doesn't feel thick but a little thin. I also think it lacks in carbonation and that would make it more interesting and enjoyable.
O: This beer started off great but overall is disappointing. It tastes sweeter than I like and is not carbonated enough. It is also thin unlike IPAs that I enjoy more.

Big off white head slowly settles into a nice bisquity small head above a honey copper colored beer.
Pine, citrus and a slight floral aspect in a aroma that is on the lighter side.
a slight bitter edge to a pretty decent hops taste that combines citrus and pine quite well.
A dry aftertaste that holds a pine tree syrup likeness in this medium bodied IPA.
A nice hops taste without overdoing it, recommended.

Pours a dense and cloudy amber, with a thick and sudsy head. Nice. Lace is there, but unremarkable.
Nose is appealingly citrus-floral. Not outstanding, but definitely appealing.
Taste is sharp up front, but with a heavy malt foundation to smooth it all out. This is an easy-to-drink IPA that shouldn't offend non-IPA fans too much, but doesn't quite cut it in my book. Sessionable? I'd say yes, though, so score some points there, but I wouldn't recommend this one otherwise.
