Big off white head slowly settles into a nice bisquity small head above a honey copper colored beer.
Pine, citrus and a slight floral aspect in a aroma that is on the lighter side.
a slight bitter edge to a pretty decent hops taste that combines citrus and pine quite well.
A dry aftertaste that holds a pine tree syrup likeness in this medium bodied IPA.
A nice hops taste without overdoing it, recommended.

Pours a dense and cloudy amber, with a thick and sudsy head. Nice. Lace is there, but unremarkable.
Nose is appealingly citrus-floral. Not outstanding, but definitely appealing.
Taste is sharp up front, but with a heavy malt foundation to smooth it all out. This is an easy-to-drink IPA that shouldn't offend non-IPA fans too much, but doesn't quite cut it in my book. Sessionable? I'd say yes, though, so score some points there, but I wouldn't recommend this one otherwise.

Solar powered Elk piss it is not. It's a hoppy foam face IPA with 7.0 power. Something to admire. After it settles, the head of beer looks like some toxic creek water foam, the kind that washes up on shore or swirls around in sludge filled eddy. Yes it is that good. The hoppy smell is not up to par with a Dogfish 90 minute choke hold but super IPAs can get old and expensive when you drink often. Did I say 7.0 ABV - 6 pack cans for a lot less. Taste..slightly citrus and malty..good enough for the dude. Pour it and ask your girl friend what she thinks of that...

Bottle pour into large, chilled mug.
A...pours a pretty clear
orange with a perfect, pillowy, off white, 2 finger head.
S...Pleasant aroma, not quite as strong a smell as I would expect. A bit more earthy or even mossy than the citrus or fruit I would expect.
T...Fantastic. from the first sip it is just right. A malty sweetness right up front. I'm getting some fruit elements, apricot and some background citrus. Then the hops kick in with a smack in the face bitterness that cuts everything else off. Clean finish.
M...Again, just right. The carbonation is just right when you can't explain it. Its not high carbonation or flat. Not sticky but just thick enough. Heavy but not too much.
O... This is a winner. Full bodied, packed with complex flavors. I am a huge IPA fan and this would be in my top 5. If you like IPA you could not be disappointed with this brew.

12 oz bottle acquired newly from the MLCC with a date stamp on teh neck that us too small and smudged to be read. Poured ~6C into a beer mug.
Pours a gorgeous clear amber with a frothy head that leaves tons of gorgeous lacing the whole way through. The nose is muted with light pine notes along with some maltiness. A nice body with a good amount of malt flavours not normally in an IPA, including bread, crackers and caramel. That said, the body lacks a substantial hop presence. Mainly pine and earth come through with hints of citrus fruit. Body is well carbonated and has a biting bitterness, though somehow comes across as watery.
For a supposedly top shelf IPA this beer has the IBUs and a great malt backbone for it, but is lacking the quality I love most of an IPA (especially one that is 7%!): HOPS! Where are the hops? Muted aromas and weak flavours make me think that the MLCC brought in a pallet of really old IPA. Shame on you MLCC & Anderson Valley for pawning off old product

Poured some a 12 oz can into a standard pint glass.
A: Amber body with generous 2 finger head. Great looking beer.
S: Oof. Smells like rotting fruit in a gym sock. Wasn't doing anything for me.
T: Luckily it tastes better than it smells. But this is way too fruity for my tastes.
M: Pretty balanced overall. Not too sticky like some IPAs.
O: Wasn't really impressed with this one, and I doubt I'll seek it out again. So many other better Californian IPAs, IMHO.

Respectable high head, interesting bubble-size variety, slow pullback, textbook cling. Amber, tending slightly to orange, with a very slight haze.
The aroma is an indistinct, unexciting but unobjectionable vegetable/hops amalgam, prefacing a nice, earthy, hoppy taste that, while not complex, goes down well. This is a stalwart, if not stellar, IPA. What's not to like?

12oz can (code 2 05 24 B 1 B D) into a tulip. Pours a clear coppery amber w/ a frothy off-white head, lots of sticky lacing.
Aroma is floral and fruity, earthy and tropical.
Taste follows nose. Some citrus and pine, balanced by sugary fruits like mango and peach. Caramel and pale malts give it ample body.
Mouthfeel is about right for an IPA, just clean and drinkable with a sharp bitter finish.
Overall a good IPA but with so many better ones to choose from, I won't be looking for this one again.

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance – Pours a beautiful hazy amber orange color with a massive and rocky thick white head. The head had amazing retention, lasting for around 5 minutes. After slowly fading it heaves an incredible level of lacing.
Smell – Big and fruity. Sweet aromas of a tangerine nature are mixed with some tropical smells of mango and pineapple. Mixed with these fruit smells are some light caramel notes as well as some citrus hop and a light herbal aroma. Overall the aroma is most delicious.
Taste – The taste begins sweet and fruity with some lighter notes of citrus hop. The fruit flavors are as would have been surmised from the nose; a nice tangerine and mango. The citrus, while initially of a lemon and grapefruit nature, are upfront light but gains in strength toward the middle of the taste. All the while a lighter bready taste is present. More toward the end, the sweetness begins to fade with the hoppiness getting stronger and the breadiness remaining constant. The hop while growing stronger at the end ,brings on flavors of an earthy and grapefruit nature, which leave a bitter bite to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is average to a little bit below average. The creaminess is quite nice on the tongue and nice for both the sweeter fruit flavors initial to the taste as well as the bitter hop flavors that come at the end.
Overall – The brew is a pretty nice IPA. Its look and aroma are incredible with a pretty nice flavor profile and feel. Some of the flavor transitions are a bit to abrupt, but beyond that it is really quite fantastic.

This brew poured with about two fingers of tan head that left significant lacing on the glass. The body was a clear copper color with moderate visible carbonation. The nose presented with definite pine hops with a bit of malt and citrus on the background. On the first sip, I got definite pine to it, but it was quickly followed up with caramel malt with some toffee notes. The pine especially came through at the end with some citrus as well. The body of the brew was medium thickness and the carbonation was well matched. I was surprised that the 80 IBUs were so balanced by the malt. The alcohol on this was dangerously hidden. This was an incredibly enjoyable beer and one that really surprised me. I would definitely have this again. Great beer!

Poured from their 12oz bottle...
Appearance - Pours a finger of creamy yellow eggshell head, body is a slightly hazy deep orange copper, leaving some great glass-coating lacing.
Smell - Just a ton of bready malt, fresh yeasty bread dough, over-ripe sweet citrus, whiff of grapefruit and a good amount of floral hops.
Taste - Oh is this good, opens with huge semi-sweet floral hops, mild citrus of ruby grapefruit and blood oranges, huge semi-sweet bready malt, touch of yeast, finishes with an almost lightly spiced pumpernickel bread with crusts, nice bittering green floral hops, and some grapefruit pith.
Mouthfeel - Nearly medium with all of these wonderful full bodied flavors, carb is medium and begins smooth, but gets a little prickly with some nice edges towards the back of the tongue, just enough cleansing to usher in the more bitter, savory and drying hop characteristics.
Overall - This is definitely a unique ipa, but it is one that i must try again - really great flavors here, great depth, complexity and balance. Has flavors found in good apa's, pil's and wheat beers too - definitely try this and see what you think. I like this alot.

12 ounce can - $1.79 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Pours out a clear, amber-hued body with a two finger-high head of near white foam.
Smell: Fresh citrus zest, notably strong resinous pine, with some lesser floral tones. Some pale, caramel malts showing beyond the hop aromas.
Taste: Bready pale malts sweetened up with a handful of crushed sugar cookies. Floral hops, but also fairly, firmly resinous, with some tangerine oil included. Medium bitterness throughout. Leisurely bitter, resinous finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A solid, basic American IPA.

Served from a bottle into a pint glass
WOW! An unexpected sight. Thick creamy head & lacing that stayed in the glass long after the brew was consumed. Burnt orange colour was very appealing.
Smell is delicious sweet grapefruity hops.
Malty upfront with a spicy pine aftertaste. WOW! (again). The balance is tremendous with the bready sweet malt & grapefruit bite.
Overall LOVE this brew.

12oz bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.
A: Pours a deep shade of orange with some brownish hues. Great clarity. Big, white, creamy head sits atop the glass forever. Lacing clings all over the glass in rings and spots.
S: Wildflowers and floral scents abound. Strong wave of pine resin too. Lots of tropical fruits: mango, tangerine, lime, lemon rind, and grapefruit pith. Honeyed malt scent underneath. Some biscuit too. Great.
T: Biting pine resin bitterness comes in a wave on the attack, but subsides just enough to let the rest of the beer shine. Lots of mango and zesty lemon. Leafy and herbal/earthy hops. Iced tea comes to mind. Slight toffee malt impression. Golden raisin. A touch bready/biscuity. Cannabis and pine resin again, along with bread crust in the drying finish.
M: Solidly medium bodied. Full, substantial, and somewhat chewy. Slight, prickling carbonation about the tongue. Great smoothness.
O: This is a very unique IPA that gets a lot of things right. It seems to show a little English influence with a solid malt texture in the mouth and some sweeter, toffee like malt character. The hops are very American though, and they bring a lot of complexity with just the right amount of bitterness. Well done.

On tap at National.
Appearance- Pours a light amber with a finger width of foamy bubbly head. Nice lacing left on pint glass.
Smell- Piney hops, citrus, grapefruit, caramalts.
Taste- Moderate piney hops upfront followed by the citrus, grapefruit and caramalts. A nice moderate bitterness at the end.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall- An enjoyable American IPA. Everything in this brew was spot on but for me I would have liked more bitterness in the taste (this is my own preference). This is a great beer to see where you stand with the style. Definitely worth a try.

A - Pours a hazy amber with a two finger khaki head. Head retention is pretty good, and there is a good amount of lace that sticks around...
S - Sweet malts and citrus fruits. Scent is fairly docile...
T - Caramel malts up front with some tangerines and grapefruit in the mix. Finishes on grapefruit note with some lingering malt. Abv is well hidden. Pretty well balanced...
M - Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.
O - Nothing above and beyond, but still a well balanced, solid IPA. Will be revisiting in the future...
Cheers...

Aroma here is predominately of pine resin hoppy goodness...a little earthy and malt notes peek through. However, very one sided.
Taste has an immediate crispness to it, letting you know it's indeed an IPA....but it surprises me by having a somewhat grainy, sweet body with a toasty or "husky" note to it....not that it's a bad thing, I actually quite enjoy that note and it led me to enjoy this beer. Finishes strong with a nice resiny bitterness that closes it out on a dry note without much lingering bitterness.
One of the more drinkable IPA's out there. Bitterness is pretty standard and average for style I'd say, and the body is pretty delicious.

Smell: wonderful, sweet grapefruit and some floral, piney notes.
Feel & Taste: smooth, wholesome front, medium body, crisp, a lil bitter, a lil dry back, herbal. Hops linger after swallowing, tongue is thirsting for more.
Overall: Enjoying this more each and every time. IMHO, set the American IPA standard high.

Reviewed from old session notes.
Pours out a standard hazy amber with a minute's worth of off-white head, medium levels of lacing left behind on the glass. Smells and tastes of an even mix of grapefruit / pine / caramel malt that sits right in the 'by-the-books" zone for IPAs. Nice medium body and carbonation. Honestly, I had a hard time seeing what the big fuss was over this one. It came across to me as a well-made but bog-standard IPA. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing in particular was special about it either.

i like the maltiness in this one. the others i remember trying lack this. still hoppier than i'm accustomed to, but this is really decent. i popped the cap and a beautiful gush of head pushed its way from the bottle. i didnt shake it(?). but it was very creamy. there is a refreshing taste and feel to this brew.
A: beautiful orange, beautiful creamy head which dissipated after a few minutes.
S: malty smell (?) which is surprising to me as i wasnt expecting this, yet still hoppy.
T: smooth, refreshing; may just start trying more IPAs. been stuck on belgiums way too long.
M:light to medium body, rests nicely on the tongue with some bitterness.
O: still not close to my favorite type but i guess that's because i have been accustomed to the sweeter double bocks. still, this was a great try. i can drink these- i see why 'the bros' gave it a high score.

Poured into a tulip from a bottle left a one finger head with pretty good retention and some lacing. Pretty dark, burnt orange/brown.
Smells fairly citrusy, toasty malts. Doesn't really hit you in the face; could be a little more aromatic. However, it still is pleasantly grassy and hop-forward.
Good clean and refreshing pale maltiness and hop bitterness is nice. There is mineral quality that hangs around for a second on the palate, sort of a coppery quality. Finishes with a mouth-coating bitterness.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, much more like a pale ale.
I think if someone had told me this was a Pale Ale I would have enjoyed it more, for some reason. The hops are nice but they aren't particularly bold. Still, Hop Ottin is very clean and very refreshing.

Color was amber... smelled of floral, grapefruit and hops... what you'd expect from a world class IPA.
it had good head... foamy...
Taste was crisp, refreshing... well hopped but not bitter... very well balanced as far as American IPAs go.
Mouthfeel was a 4/5 and overall I'd give it a 4....
worth grabbing when you see it...

Appearance: A nice, thick head comes out of the initial pour, over an inch. It subsides to form a 1/4" thick layer of creamy foam. Exactly what I want when I pour my beer. The color is a dark amber with slight red hues.
Scent: I get a bunch of different hop characteristics up front. Can't quite pin point it all but the one that stands out is tropical fruit. I get a little bit of citrus and spice as well, but mostly it's tropical. It also reminds me a bit of the fresh, green hop pellets I use on brew day. The malt is a bit more subtle with a hint of caramel, but nothing too strong.
Taste: The hops don't come on too strong. You get a bit of malt and a bit of hops, but nothing that will slap you in the face and ruin your palate. Very well balanced. There is a bit of bitterness that starts to creep up as soon as you take a sip and it only grows as you swallow it.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. The carbonation is well balanced. Perfect for an IPA.
Overall: I'll be honest I was very surprised when drinking this. I was expecting over the top hop use with in your face flavors. Maybe I'm stereotyping West Coast IPAs, but this isn't that at all. Sure there is plenty of bitterness, but it's an IPA. The flavors are subtle and balanced, but it's really that bitterness that makes itself known as an IPA. I was expecting a bit more from the flavors. Although I think the malt and hops were balanced, I think they were both lacking a little bit and find myself wishing there was a bit more.

Hop Ottin's a ridiculously smooth IPA. I didn't know that an IPA could be this smooth. It's got some caramel, bread and toffee flavors which somehow work OK with the hop power. The hops and a little pine come through in the nose and it's interesting how they lay pretty mellow upon sipping. Really great beer.

Had this as a session. Here's my simplified review of the canned offering; Super hot poolside gathering, 104 or more degrees easy. This beer went down effortlessly out of the can. Although not a most primary candidate to drink as a summer quencher, this went down smooth. I figure any beer released in a canned version is somehow worthy to be sipped as so. The bitter biting aftertaste worked well against the well-balanced malt sweetness. I need to try this in a glass for comparison. But based on drinkabity out of the can alone, I'm sure I'd enjoy it equally in a glass. Like others may tell you, this really is a great beer with which to introduce someone into the IPA style. Which means this is not as hop-head aggressive as it is refined and smooth. That said, there is a satisfying linger of bitterness. Nice.
