Picked this up at a good price $4, at Bevmo. Pours a dull orange and gold color, nice white head. Aroma was a big bitterness and grassy hop.

Taste, a little more hop flavor than in the aroma, good bitterness, hides the alcohol well, nice coasting caramel flavor. Kind of a grapefruit and grass leaning hop flavor to it. Slight metallic, tinny feel.

One of those decent options at a decent price, nothing groundbreaking, but worth checking out.

Review dated 6/22/2009.

Bomber from the brewery. I’m surprised at the low ratings because I didn’t find this one to be all that bad. Nice clear orangish color with an off-white head. Sweet aroma with some citrusy hops. Flavor is sweet pale/caramel malt with citrusy (mostly orangish) hops. Fairly standard palate for the style. Drinkable and not bad at all.

Color: dark gold with a little haze, nice foamy head.

Smell: light malt sweetness

Body: medium body

Taste: light sweet malt with hop bitterness coming on in the middle, with a bitter hop aftertaste. Also, a tinny (metallic) flavor that I didn't like at all. Don't know how that happened, maybe the water supply?

Thoughts: definitely an IPA once you taste it, but not enough character to make me want to come back to it, especially with the metallic taste.

Comments: if they got rid of the metallic taste and made the hops more interesting, rather than just bitter (go with a variety of American hops and bring on the grapefruit
And pine overtones) they could have a good beer.

Not terrible, not fantastic. Basic, run-of-the-mill IPA, a little heavier on the malt than most, but still with a nice citrus and lighter pine note running through from the hops. Relatively clean and smooth, not heavy nor grainy, and with not quite enough bitterness to balance the light, sweet malt. I would certainly rather drink this than many, many beers out there, but then again, I don't drink those other beers more than once either.

Deep copper color. Bready malt aroma with some citrus rind hops. Supple malt, some fruity esters, and hefty bittering hops. Tastes like he used the AVBC yeast, which seems to yield quite a bit of fruity flavors from the malt. Apricot-like in the middle. Hops are bitter throughout and linger in the finish. Not much in the way of finishing hops, and low on hop-derived flavors. An odd IPA, not terrible but not great.

Poured a nice orangish cilor with good carbonation and a nice white head. Nose is malt, grain, hops, citrus. taste is a mix of biscuity and caramel malt, more malt forward than most IPAs of the West Coast and thats not bad. Some pine but mainly orange peel and other citrus.
Mouthfeel is nice, malty, not overly hopped and good. Good IPA

Pours a nice golden yellow with a nice white head.

Not much nose but a bit of malt and a hint of citrus. Also a bit of a "green" and "meat" smell; not bad, just different.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pleasing.

Flavors are quite nice with a consumer friendly balance of undertones of malt and overtones of grapefruit bitter hop. More bitter than malty but both are present and in a nice juxtaposition. Food friendly, nice flavors and worth the try. Freshness may be the key here based on some earlier less favorable reviews. I found this very drinkable and quite pleasant. I believe I had a very fresh bottle which showed very nice grapefruit skin bitter hops as a major characteristic.

Finish is medium long with some grapefruit oil and pine resin. A decent drink and well worth trying (if you get it fresh, I would think).

22oz bottle says 2008 anniversary, so this one could be a little old.

The nose is off, it's minty, grainy malt, some earthiness from the hops. There is an odd resemblence to cat food in the aroma.

The taste has a touch of chocolate, something wet and stale.

Overall, if this was a one time brew and you happen to run across it, don't buy it. It's old. We BARELY finished it. I don't actually remember why.

Look: Dark golden and hazy.

Smell: malty, not much else, not much hop aroma.

Taste: Malty, sweet, sweet crystal maltiness. The only problem is almost no hop flavor.

Overall: 2 problems. #1 It's supposed to be an ipa, but has no hoppiness. #2 The label goes into great detail about how amazing and holy this beer is, which only helps let you down when you open it. On the upside it was a bargian price.

Pours a hazy brownish orange with a decent white head. Aroma is crystal malty with notes of brown bread, caramel, and very light sweeter citrus. Super malty flavor, caramel and bread, iced tea, with a flavorless bitterness that lingers slightly. Hardly any flavor or aroma hops, possibly an old bottle? Carbonation is a bit too coarse, mouthfeel a little thin. Definitely not a beer I'm going to go seek out again.

A - Pours copper, with a 1 fingered white head. Dissipates immediately and leaves little lacing.

S/T - Honey, caramel and flowers.

M - Full-bodied, slightly hop dominated and dry.

D - Good overall. Not a bad attempt on this IPA.

12 ounce bottle purchased from Ledger's. Poured into a snifter. Comes in at 7%.

A-Pours a hazy copper with a half finger head that leaves a nice foamy clump in the middle.

S-Biscuity malt is the predominant flavor hitting my nose. I get the faint smell of raisins. No hops are jumping forward at all.

T-Biscuity malt all the way. The malt is semi-sweet. Pick up on some floral hops and yeast. The hops are just way too muted.

M-Carbonation is fine, but I feel that this guy is a little thin.

D-Not terrible, just not enough going on for me to keep drinking another one.

Saw this one in the cooler at Ledger's and thought I would give it a try. Doing a little research on this beer, it appears it is a contract brew done by Anderson Valley. After using the Google,I found out that the guy that brews this is the same one that does the Chau Tien Pale Ale. It seems that he wants to open a series of pubs in college towns and this would be one of the beers served. According to their site: "Serious Beer. Serious Fun. Defined. The Beer Guy World experience begins here. Our mission is to open a Beer Guy taproom in every College Town USA and showcase American beers and history."

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Crystal clear, pale orange-copper body with 1 finger, soapy, off-white head. Good head retention and very nice lacing.

Smell: Orange zest, pine, and biscuit-like malted barley. Caramel and hop oil aromas come out as the beer warms. Overall, pretty plain and simple.

Taste: Rusty/metallic flavor dominates right away. Not good. Takes a while just to get past it. Other than that, I get bready malts, earth, citrus, and piney hops. Finish and aftertaste are pretty damn bitter, but bland.

Mouthfeel: Creamy-ish with nice, balanced carbonation. Finishes a little sticky and dry.

Drinkability: I considered drain-pouring this for a while. The metallic flavor mentioned above was gross and annoying. Not only was it bad, but it blocked me from picking out other subtleties in this beer. Besides that, it wasn't bad. But overall, yeah it was bad. Bad.

Also, the name BeerGuy - bad.

12 oz. bottle tried 17 Jan 2009.

Poured in shaker pint. Small yellowish white head. Lightly carbonated. Clear dark golden amber color. Aroma is sweet, yeasty, with some ginger and dough. Overall fairly light in flavor. Some ginger, citrus, slightly metallic. Caramel malt throughout. Slight hoppy bite of grapefruit pith in the finish but not very strong. Medium body. Ethanol seems lighter than 7%.

Overall nothing special.

Pours a hazy bright orange with a small white head with large bubbles.

Floral hop nose with some hints of orange citrus and caramel as it warms.

Some citrus notes up front with slight caramel malt. Not too much mid palate. Finish is pretty bitter with some slight metallic flavor and has good length.

Good smooth feel on the palate.

I wouldn't have guessed this is 7%. Quite drinkable, but it doesn't have the expressive hop flavors that I look for in top notch IPAs. Still, a solid brew that I wouldn't mind having.

Appearance: Hazed amber with a big fluffy white crown of foam, very good head retention that leaves webs of lace as the glass slowly empties. With a bit more clarity this would be a great looking beer.

Smell: Dry biscuit-like maltiness, graham cracker, faint citrus hop aroma. Very clean, but pretty weak on the aroma hops for a West Coast IPA. Not terribly impressive.

Taste & mouthfeel: Crisp but semi-sweet malts open this one up, with graham cracker carrying over from the aroma. I get a bit of caramel wafer beneath that, but sweetness is brief. Leafy hop flavor is present but not nearly as bold as I'd like it to be. Medium in body, the malt backbone is fairly hefty without lending a ton of sweetness. It works, but it's not my favorite malt profile on an IPA. Aggressive bittering hops appear mid-sip, making it pretty apparent where most of the hop additions went in the boil (too damn early). The bitterness is at least clean, though the malt backbone never quite dries out in the finish, making for an unusual aftertaste of caramel and bitter resin. It doesn't quite work, and I find myself wishing for more dryness and less bitterness. A decent beer in any case, clean and drinkable, but the recipe could certainly use some tweaking.

Notes: Not bad, probably worth a try at $3 per bomber, but I don't see the point in releasing a mediocre IPA in a part of the country that is already saturated in far better examples of the style. I can't see myself buying this again, not when I can get a sixer of Union Jack for 8 dollars.

Picked up a bottle of this at Ledger's Liquors in Berkeley. What is this? Anderson Valley? A contract brew? No idea. Pours a yellowish brown, lighter in color than I'd expected. Layer of parchment lacing, white. Laces in a slow sticky fashion. Smells of lemons, green apples, grass. Flavor is sweet and flowery, notes of hibiscus, jasmine, lemon rind. Sweet caramel malt moves in next, preceeding a fairly aggressive bitterness that lingers on the finish. Its an interesting IPA, with lots of good, nontraditional hop flavors in there. Mouthfeel is oddly thin, but at the same time its not a beer that ill remember as being thin. Drinks well, memorable. Still would like to know what the story is on this.
