Notes:
New Belgium Brewing and The Lost Abbey brewery from San Marcos, California have a shared passion for a variety of things, not the least of which is the wild Belgian yeast brettanomyces. So they decided to join forces and collaborate. Lost Abbey Collaboration is brewed simply with pale malts accompanied by Target, Centennial and Sorachi hops for a hint of citrus. Focusing on their mutual respect for the ingredient, the spotlight shines on the brettanomyces, where a full brett fermentation offers bold pineapple overtones and funky, sour edge. The beer is a shining, golden shade and is warming and dry.

22oz brown bomber with no freshness date.

LOOK: Semi-clear golden yellow, decent lacing

SMELL: Spicy, herbal, broth, alcohol, dried grass, green peppercorn, mint, lots of yeast

TASTE: Smoothness, medium bodied, a bit slick, malty, peppery, alcohol, yeast, ripe stone fruit, mild broth, semi-sweet finish

Wait for brett to show up, muddled chaos is what my palate picks up on 1st. Too young is what I am getting, too tame to even have "Brett" part of its name. Why is this beer so sweet as well? I am all for collabs but this one missed its mark.

Poured from a standard pressure-cap bomber into a snifter in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- One-finger white head with large bubbles and a quickly eroding retention down to a thin base. Cloudy lemon color. Ok looking, not great though.

S- Some funky brett, apricot, candi sugar. Kind of muddled aroma.

T- Slight funk, grassiness, golden malts, some lighter fruits. The Brett is obvious but surprisingly not tart.

M- Biting carbonation with a slight vinous feel at the wet end of it.

O- This beer really missed the mark. Unfortunate. I wish it were sour-er and had an idea of what it wanted to be.

On-tap at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC

A: The beer is hazy golden yellow in color. It poured with a finger high white head that has excellent retention properties and consistently left a short head covering the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Faint aromas of pale malts are present in the nose along with some hints of sourness from the brett.
T: The overall taste very much follows the smell and has flavors of pale malts along with hints of funk and sourness from the brett.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer really needs more brett and funk in order to be considered a "Brett Beer".

A bomber. Poured into a small wine glass.

A delicate, complex brew. The aroma itself is complex, hard to describe and worth the purschase.

A - Poured a cloudy straw color, half-finger dense white head, which quickly dissipates.

S – Barnyard funk, grassy, maybe a little litter box, slightly fruity.

T – Medium to low bitterness balanced with light maltiness, some oak, medium dryness.

MF – Some smoothness.

I've had this bottle for quite some time and decided now was as good a time as any to give it a go...

A fairly clear appearance reminds me of a chardonnay actually... A little lighter than gold...

Aromas are interesting here... Lots of funkiness from the Brett... definitely the band aid thing but the aroma is pregnant with this past-its-prime fruit that adds an interesting twist to this. Maybe it's the Soriachi hops? It's like you've taken a beer and thrown it in an old oak barrel, covered it with cheesecloth and let it sit for a month or so...

I actually like what I'm getting from this. Mind you, it isn't earth shattering or anything but I don't think it's quite as bad as some of the other reviews would let on. In the world of Wild Ales, it's definitely not a superstar but it is still a good beer and seems somehow different than others. There's more funky Brett and less sourness than one would find in others... Very earthy and old feeling...

I admit it... I liked this one... I would drink this again if offered... That being said, it's not the best Wild out there, not by a long stretch of the imagination... But it's still a good beer that I enjoyed...
