Hmm...this isn't the Lips of Faith series Belgo...but whatever. I can't find the "regular" one. In any case I tend to find I like hoppy Belgian beers. I usually don't like Belgian styles as much as American styles of beer but if it's a Belgian style beer that's more hoppy then sign me up.
She's a good-lookin' beer. The beer is a clear golden yellow with just a tad of sediment but just barely. The head is bubbly-frothy, white, and a bit stays on the surface as you drink it. What I like most about this beer's appearance is the lovely lacing it leaves on the glass. I can see the evidence of every gulp I took.
The Belgo smells very floral from hops and very yeasty, no doubt from Belgian yeasts. It's like a more hoppy saison in a way. I get some sugary sweetness, some lemon citrus, straw, and black pepper as well.
This is yummy. Yeast, straw, biscuity and some citrusy, bitter hops. It's just a tad boozy but it blends right in. The sugary sweetness lies underneath throughout.
A light-medium body has a medium-high carbonation which makes this light and refreshing. It's pretty smooth though the carbonation adds bite but the hops make for a dry finish.

Hazy yellow and orange, 3/4" head, white, retention was good. Aroma hit the belgian yeast notes more than it did the hops.
Taste dropped way more bitterness than your average Belgian. The hops came out to play a lot more on the tongue than they did in the nose. Finishes clean, but before you get there, there is plenty of belgian spice rack and black pepper.
Good at what it is.

From notes, 4/29/11. Draft, City Beer Store. A very nice Belgian IPA. I rather like the Lips of Faith series. They mostly would make for excellent introductions to their various styles, since they’re friendly, enjoyable versions that still pack good flavor and some complexity. This isn’t quite competing with the best of the sub-style, but it’s nearly there and very good in its own right. Good citrus/grass/floral hop notes blend with Belgian yeastiness and a touch of earth. Taste is a bit sweet but finishes dry with a gentle bitter bite. A very pleasant beer and another win for New Belgium’s fancy line.
