Poured from the tap into a tasting glass

The color is a slightly cloudy gold/yellow with a slight wisp of head and a little lacing left on the glass.

The smell is a bit citrus with some lemon but mixed a bit with some earthy flavors and a brett presence that was to be expected.

The taste is funky with some earthiness that leads into a citrus flavor probably from the hops. Some bitterness hits toward the end with a bit of a yeasty flavor.

The feel of this beer is bigger then expected. It goes down easy but leaves a barnyard type aftertaste that stays for a brief time.

From the taps of Beachwood BBQ, on to the beer:

The head retention of lacing from this blonde colored beer are acceptable....there's a little more lace sticking around. Hmmm....lemon rinds and floral notes, what's so special about that? Nothing really explosive or unique in this beer, nor is the overall taste one that I can really dig. Call it beer good for washing food down.

Served on draft at flying saucer Raleigh.
Pours a peach colored cloudy (unfiltered) body with a white 1" head that sticks around a bit and leaves some lacing down the glass.
THe aromas are slightly funky Belgian yeast character and some clove but not much else.
The taste is similar with minimal funk and decently balanced by the hops. Not a whole lot of sweetness of complexity. Over still a decent shot at a BPA and one of the better offerings by New Belgium. Of their La Folie series this was definitely sub par to the previous ones I have tried.

Appearance: Arrives with a cloudy honey color and a creamy head - great persistance and sheets of lace

Smell: Bready aroma with hints of white pepper and grass

Taste: Opens with a bready flavor that quickly jumps in a pineapple, clove and white pepper direction by mid palate; at the same time a grassy bitterness also adds balance; after the swallow, the grassy herbacious and floral pepper flavors combine to provide a complexly layered finish

Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium to full body with prickly carbonation

Drinkability: Interesting yeasty complexity; another pleasantly surprising take on a Belgian style by the folks in Colorado

On tap at Brouwers.

Pours a hazy golden/straw yellow, big and thick white head forms, settles to a thick layer, drops some lace rings around the glass. Smell is neat, roses, very flowery, some spice, oak, honey, wheat, more floral, some herbal earthiness, sour fruit, really nice nose. Taste is similar, heavy flower character and spice, wood, earth, biscuity, spruce tips, floral, rose petals, wheat, very dry and spicy in the finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation, pretty damn good. The flower/rose character is really cool, I dug this stuff a lot.

Has a lacy white head over a light golden ale. Nose has fruity malts, subtle flowery hops and a faint wild yeast presence. Not much Brett in the flavor either. Some spicy herbs, citrus, sweet malts and peppery hops. Body is a bit light, but well carbonated. Not bad, but a Orval tribute needs much more funk.

A: Poured golden and fizzy with a lacy white head. It just looked 'pretty' with a little haze for good measure.

S: grassy, herbal, citrusy smells. yeasty, sour, and sweat.

M: Wonderfully fizzy and refreshing. No lingering tastes, no bitter or yeast or slick. Nice.

T: Wild yeasty flavors, throw in some grass and flowers. Add grapefruit and maybe some other odd fruits. Sour at the end with just a hint of hop.

D: Very nice, if it were lower abv I'd have 3. or 5. Great warm weather beer.

Poured into a New Belgium cervoise, Le Fleur Misseur is a chill hazed gold with a white fluffy head that leaves nice lace.

Smell is very saison like, with a dry mineral spritz and wheaty, sour tang.

Taste is also very dry, neutral and clean, some malty pils, very light fruitiness, a clean beer with a mineral bite on the finish.

Mouthfeel has pretty creamy carbonation and a dry, crisp finish.

Drinkability is good, a simple, highly attenuated Belgian Blonde, very similiar to a homebrew I make all summer long, but I prefer a bit more esters and hoppy snap.

Ahhh, brewery fresh... does it get better? GABF '08 weekend and I couldn't get enough of this beer. It begins with a juicy, fruity, acidic, malty mess that melded together seamlessly in the glass. Peppery, berry-ey, tart, Belgian funkiness all filled the nose-- the aroma is enough. The beer's maltiness is evident in the strong golden color with a moderate haze and great head formation, retention, and lacing. The taste is rich with fully attenuated malts and yeasty esters, phenols, and assertive hops (Amerillo?) Balanced with a dry acidity that hold memories of their sour beer experiments. Berries, apples, pears, white pepper, grains of paradise, clove, bananna, and a hint of cumin. The beer remains creamy and malty without even the hint of under-attenuation. Super clean, crisp, dry and bitter in the finish, leaving only the spices to remember. A fantastic beer!

On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into a goblet. Light cloudy gold color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is bright fleshy fruit with some yeastiness and a very subtle funk. Flavor is a bit floral, some phenols, yeasty bread, medium tart, pear and apricot fruitiness, a bit of brett in the finish. Dry and reasonably complex, but no Orval here. Nice mouthfeel with a little too much carbonation.

Had this at the Falling Rock. It's supposedly a tribute to Orval, which is one of those timeless brews.
Arrives a pale straw color that you'd swear was a white wine if it wasn't carbonated. Not a huge head, but a thin white sheen.
Smells of citrus, spice, a little funk, and some European hops.
The flavor is sour with a little yeasty twang. The middle actually has a little malt in the body followed by a lot of mild but dull bitter hops.
I put down my wine glass of this pretty quickly and enjoyed every sip. This is definitely sessionable if you enjoy the style.
I'd love to see this available (along with Eric's ale) in bottles someday.

Poured into pint glass from draft at local watering hole Fiddlers Inn. Usually they only have beers from the great pacific NorthWest but I beleave this one was brewed at Elysian brewery so its good enough to be NW beer.

Look was cloudy yellow with a top heavy yellowish brown. Had a creamy white head that dissipated to a white wring around glass that lasted to the end.

Smell was of white sourdough bread, nice clean sweet smell , medicinal, little low alfa hop in nose.

Taste was much like your classic belgium pale ale with light malt and hops with just a little sourness in the beginning, the white bread then coming through followed by a slight hop bitterness.

Had 2 of these outside at lunch on one of our nicest days before summer ends and the long rains begin. This was the perfect beer for that. Iam not a new belgium fan at all, but I like there sours and had this over pliney because of the time of day with no regrets. CHeeRs

On-tap at the Falling Rock, this is a NB anniversary beer which is supposed to be an homage to Orval. I haven't had the pleasure of sampling Orval yet so I can't comment on that aspect. Golden yellow color with a billow of white foam at the top. Smells like only the slightest bit of funk with some citrus aspects. the taste has a slight hint of lemon and a bretty finish. This has some phenolics but they aren't offensive or medicinal. Overall this was worth the $4.50 for a half pint.

Consumed @ the Otheroom in Venice under less than ideal tasting conditions.

A: Hazy golden color with a white head - resembling a Witbier.

S: Grapefruit, sourdough plus some floral aromas.

T: Tart and refreshing. A lighter Belgian sour.

M: Carbonation was high, making this a nice cleanser.

D: Felt more like a 5% abv than a 6.5% beer. This easily could be sessioned by lovers of sour ales.

Had on Tap in a pint glass

Pours a very cloudy yellow with black specks floating all thrugh the beer. Scent is dominated much like the taste of overwhelming clove, hints of other spices as well as a bready middle with a smooth finish that still leaves a bit to much clove in the aftertaste.

Overall i might drink this again but for me it seems if you amp up the ABV a bit and tag it as a winter warmer you might have had a better brew.

S:HEavy clove scent that overpowers everything else

T: Doesn't really reveal what a belgian pale should. heavy, heavy clove, coriander. not to accurate but a fairly good beer overall.

M: heavily carbonated, bitter aftertaste. probably would have another but them move on to better things.

Chill hazed and golden, attractive one finger white head with largish bubbling and plenty of active carbonation.

Fruity - apples and pears- aroma, along with some phenolic notes that include clove along with Band Aids. The malts are a little wimpy, but add a touch of sweetness.

More of the light fruits in the flavor, but the phenolics take a heavier than anticipated whack at the palate. Pretty fair amount of tobacco leaf and love say hello, along with a spiciness indicative of coriander. The mouthfeel is right about average for a beer with a touch of Brett: light and highly carbonated, without resorting to harsh.

It's okay. I enjoyed it cool, and drank it very quickly. The Brett should fix that over time.

I had this on tap at Naja's in Redondo Beach, oddly served in a 1/2 liter masse. The beer was clear golden color with a 2-finger white foam. The aroma was subtle malts with some yeasty esters. I didn't get any brettanomyces out of the aroma or taste, mostly malt and esters. The taste was similar to a Bier de Garde in fact, simplicity of malt. I found it to be completely delicious and perfectly drinkable, maybe my favorite from New Belgium.

A - Golden color with a slight haze, and a great head.

S - Hoppy with some great toasty malt notes, and some wild aromas from the brett.

T - Hoppy beer with some good malt backbone that is dominated by the brett flavors (Goaty, horsey, etc).

M - Medium body with a substantial carbonation, refreshing.

This is a great beer, the brett provides a wonderful dimension to this beer. Very good.

On tap at Sycamore in Columbia, MO for the New Belgium beer dinner.

A - Poured a semi-opaque, golden color with hints of orange. It had a white, foamy, soapy head that left beautiful lacing.

S - It smelled grassy and yeasty. Great floral aromas, too.

T - This has a nice hoppiness and burnt toast maltiness. Very spicy with a yeasty kick.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium-bodied beer.

D - This is a great Belgian ale. I wish it was more readily available.

Had on tap at Belmont Station tonight.

The beer pours a hazy honey color with very good head retention and sticky lacing. The beer smells attracitve, consisting of light honey and pepper. The flavors on the palate completely replicate the nose, and the beer has a nice medium bodied feel with a well disguised abv. The beer is very easy to drink, but is a bit lean on the palate. It really does remind me of an American made Orval (as the menu suggests), but with a softer palate and bit less hoppiness. Nevertheless, this is very nice beer from NB. Well done.

Snifter at the new Father's Office in Culver City for a whopping eight dollars, might be the most I have spent on a beer of this size at a bar, enjoyed during the NBA Finals Game 1

A-Hazy golden yellow color, body looked a little thicker than you would expect from a beer like this, big one inch foamy white head, stayed around for a little, some retention, decent lacing

S-Musty and earthy tones, floral hoppiness, light spiciness, white pears, pineapples, mangos, some green apples, sweet malts, bread, hints of dryness, Belgian yeast, and lots of citrus

T-Started off tasting like a lightly hopped pale ale, then some sweet yeast in the middle mixed with some flowers, finish had both hops and spice but both were subtle, later on could taste some slightly tart but more sweet citrus, hops came out a little more but the finish was more chewy than before, would prefer this served warm at room temperature so the flavors could come out as much as possible, when it came out is was cool but not cold which is the right way to serve a beer of this type, just my preference for the temperature to be a little higher next time around, went down very easily and tried to pace myself as much as possible, nicely balanced and I really enjoyed its nice feel, liked how the sweetness was controlled and it was not overly hopped, would not call it a light beer but almost came off as one

M-Slightly dry, crisp, semi-sweet, and chewy mouthfeel, full bodied for its style, not syrupy though if that makes sense, nice level of carbonation but could have used more, got a little spicy on the tongue by the end

D-Could have drank a few glasses of this easily but did not want to at that price, goes down smooth and easy, light on the stomach, low ABV, no alcohol presence in the flavor, would make a nice session beer

I was excited to see this after I missed at Churchille's in San Marcos about a month back, also stoked to see it was part of the Lips of Faith series after tasting how good Eric's Sour Ale was, cool that it was made for New Belgium's fifteenth anniversary but I do not know that is very similar to Orval like they claim it is, anyways the beer was good and light for its style, would like to have again, recommended

On-tap 2 June 2008 at Papago Brewing in Scottsdale. Served at bar in a Tulip glass.

Had a nice uniform frothy head of 1" atop a pale hazy light gold colored brew.

Smells are somewhat fruity with a hint of spice. Taste very fresh, but not as forward on fruit as nose. Very well balanced with light hops. A very enjoyable brew. Has a really nice mouth feel and bubbles are good for the slightly thicker body.

I may go back and get a growler of this.

On-tap @ 1702. Glad to see something new from New Belgium. Golden clear appearance with lots of carbonation. The head is medium thick, and a nice layer of white foam keeps up throughout. The aroma has a pungent, fresh, weedy hoppiness, plus some citrus notes, and some typical Belgian spiciness. Very enticing.

The taste is a bit milder, dry and bready with citrus hops and a floral-like spice. Mildly bitter finish which is pretty unremarkable. The alcohol doesn't really show up which is preferred. Being over 90 degrees outside, this beer is quite refreshing. Medium body, with a light foaminess, overall a solid mouthfeel.

I would very much like to see this bottled as it was highly drinkable. A fine Belgian Pale with a more assertive hoppiness. Recommended...

New Belgium's 15th anniversary beer, Sampled on tap at 1702, Tucson AZ
Arrives quite chilled with a hazy gold color and is topped by a healthy, by draught standards, one-finger thick, pale white head. Visually it has a fair amount of carbonation bubbling up from the bottom of my glass. The aroma is quite fruity up front with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, pear and apple notes, but also has a phenolic note to it that is immediately noticed and is a mix of light Band-Aid notes that actually aren't all that bad. There are some nice, light malt aromatics here as well that contribute notes reminiscent of dusty, crushed malt and lightly toasted grain notes.

This is also quite fruity tasting, but not quite as much as the aroma might have suggested; I get flavors of light pineapple, but this leans more towards notes of apples and pears. This has an earthy-spice finish to it with some accenting light phenolic character (clove and a hint of Band-Aid are noticeable). There is also a hint of something like earthy, lightly green, coriander. The malt comes through more as a dry grain character; touches of lightly toasted grain and even some raw grain like flavors. As the beer warms up it get much more fruity and a bit more phenolic (especially the Band-Aid note). This is nice and light, quaffable yet not overly attenuated considering the Brettanomyces influence.

This is pretty tasty, but definitely on the young side. I would be interested in seeing how the Brettanomyces flavors mature in this beer. Strangely enough and atypical of most beers, I find this actually is better on the cold side as it gets a bit too phenolic and more unbalanced as it warms up.
