Veteran regional brewery New Belgium throws its hat into the crowded Pale Ale field and scores big time. A pale gold in color, this one leaves plenty of sticky lace rings to mark your drinking progress. The smell is pine, pine, and more pine. Did I mention pine? If you always wanted to know what it smells like to walk through an evergreen forest, this is it. There is an ample malt backbone evident but it is of the pale variety only, has a simple sweetness and really allows the hops to shine. Evergreen and citrus hops flavor dominates the palate and do so very well. This is not an overly complex pale ale, but its simplicity is well executed.
