12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours black with brown hues; no head, no lacing. The aromas are full of subtle hints of chocolate malts. There's a also a subtle expresso aroma. Now the flavors start off bold and promising, but it becomes somewhat old pretty quickly. It starts off with a blast of roasted black coffee. It really seems to dominate. It's pretty bitter and lacks a sweetness to balance it out. More chocolate malts. There's also a touch of anise and smoke. Once again, the flavors are there but don't exactly follow through. Mouthfeel is very fizzy, almost too much carbonation. Very light and thin. Alcohol goes unnoticed, so it's easy to drink a few if you choose.

This one lacks depth and character. But some coffee lovers might enjoy this one.

Poured out of a growler...

Very dark. Head dissipates quickly, but it laces nicely on my glass. Usual coffee, and chocolate tastes. Overall a very solid stout. Very smooth going down, hence the 5% abv. I enjoyed this very much, and will look this up again.

Bottle poured into my stemmed Allagash glass.

The appearance is the typical black with a nice head that is off-white/mocha in color. The head lingers quite a while due to the vigorous pour and that is where the 4 on appearance comes from: the head. The aroma is of milky and bitter chocolate. The flavors are smoky and burnt up front which gradually gives way to a bitter flavor that lingers and in the end coalesces with a slight milk shake/chocolate flavor. The mouthfeel seems pretty standard: lower carbonation and a nice medium body. This isn't a bad stout, but the flavors don't come together too well on it either. They seem very divided and the transfer from one to the other is not smooth. It has the typical stout flavors, but they aren't well balanced or rounded. This is, in my opinion, a mediocre American Stout.

A 22 oz bomber bottle from Vintage Estate.

A: The stout is black, yup. Not sure much more is needed to convey the beer's appearance. A white head, thin even on the first pour, never amounts to more than a thin band.

S: Roasted, burnt malts paired with semisweet chocolate. The result is a bitter, dark aroma that brings lighter, toasted aromas of bread and nuts.

T: Thin and undercarbonated, the stout doesn't get off to a good start. The dark roasted flavors are there, but without the bubbles it lacks power. Chocolate and coffee follow, picking up the pace a bit. Generally thin, the body doesn't do much with our without the carbonation. Passable as a stout.

M: The flavors are there, chocolate, coffee and toasted breads, but they don't come together nicely. The low carbonation levels don't do the stout any favors. Average at best.

The best part of this beer is the pour literally black as coal, with a deep dark tan head forming thick and dwindling slow. Aroma the dark roasted malts bring on hints of coffee and dark chocolate but really there's only dark roasted malt qualities, little to no herbal hops are detectable. Flavor has roasted malt driven flavors with little sweetness, dominated by bitter dark roasted barley nearly burnt flavors ride the palate. Espresso and dark baker's chocolate in a five percent by alcohol volume stout. As it warm's it rounds out a bit, newly bottled in 12 ounce portions I can't imagine drinking a whole sixpack and this is literally their best offering from the standard beers. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a dry earthy finish, dark roasted barley leaves burnt malts and espresso like strength bitterness on the palate. Overall a local beer from Youngstown Ohio less than an hour and a half away from me, it used to be a kickass railroad brewpub. Now it's a production brewery with sub par beers, this one as a whole isn't horrible maybe the best from the lineup.

22 ounce bottle, no bottle date. Pours almost opaque dark brown color with a small 1 finger light tan head with good retention that reduces to a thin lacing cap. Some light lacing clings to the side of the glass as well. Aromas of roasted malt, caramel, light chocolate, light espresso, light spiciness, cola, and some sort of metallic off flavor or something. Ok aromas, but they got much more subdued after the initial pour. Taste turns out better: caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee, molasses, and spicy hops. Some decent bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, and spicy hops for a bit. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy mouthfeel that drinks quite easily. No alcohol noticed other than a slight warming after the finish. Overall: even though the aromas were off, the taste turned out better; and this is quite an enjoyable stout for being 5%.

A: pours black with nice tan head that is quick to subside

S: I know this is called Coke Oven, but it smells a bit like the cola. Roasted barley, chocolate, and coffee are present as well, but the most prominent smell is cola, perhaps a touch of sass and purple drink.

T: Begins slightly sweet/fruity like cola, what the hell? Then basic stout flavors come through, burnt and roasted malts. Chocolate then slight coffee. No hop flavors but slightly bitter, moreso from the grain. Lingering metallic finish towards the end.

M: Thin for a stout. Easy drinking and 5% but still feels light on the body. Burnt malts leave the usual bit of chalkiness but that does not linger.

O: The cola flavors were entirely unexpected. It's nice to have a flavorful stout that isn't overwhelming with abv. That said, I would have liked a bit more body.

dark black look to it and a nice head of maybe two inches, decent amount of lacing on the sides, but nothing spectacular The aroma was nice, mix of chocolate and roasted malts, hints of light coffee notes and a decent bit of dark fruit note carrying over. Started out very smooth with a rich and well defined chocolate note that dominated early before mellowing with a nice but of vanilla and coffee notes.

A: A stout is a stout. Its dark black with dark brown highlights when held to light. A mocha colored head tops this beverage but dissipates quickly.

S: Big, deep espresso smell. In fact, it dominates so much that it's all you can smell and it smells great!

T: Flavor is a little light on this one. I get some of those espresso notes, and a tad of chocolate, but nothing interesting of note. It's not bad, it's just pedestrian.

M: Highly carbonated and a nice full body help this beer out a lot. I like the mouthfeel quite a bit.

D: Drinkability is nice at only 5%, its something I'd enjoy not as a winter warmer though, but in the cooler (not cold) fall months.

Very dark brown, almost oil-like, with the thickest head I've ever seen. The head starts immediately with only the slightest bit of pour and it sticks around for a good while. The head seems to form in layers...it's a neat sight.

Roasted malts and a hint of chocolate fill the nose. If you sniff long enough, you'll pick up an earthy, flowery hoppy smell.

This is almost difficult to drink because of the head. It just never stops. I can barely tell what's going on because my tongue is constantly being tickled by the head each time I take a sip.

I had to do something I've never done before in a craft beer, I had to swirl my finger around the glass to get the head to go down. It was the only way I could get to the actual beer.

The flavor is good. There's the faintest bits of coffee and chocolate with just enough of the hops to balance out the sweetness.

It's clearly a highly carbonated beer and you can tell each time the liquid hits your tongue. It gives it a refreshing, cleansing feel to it and gives it a lighter body than you'd think. Deep in the finish, those hops finally make an appearance.

Overall, this was a better beer than I expected. More alcohol would be appreciated.

Pours a dark cola brown color with a thin half finger head which is a dark khaki color. The head goes to a skim and leaves some moderate lace on the glass. The aroma is faint, but it is of roasted malt and dark chocolate. Taste follows suit with the aroma perfectly, it is a dark chocolate up front and fades to a bitter roasted malt taste. The mouthfeel was a little overly carbonated and stingy at first but subdued some as the bottle went on. Overall I would say this is the definition of an average stout. After reading the bottle it is what it says it is a stout with roasted malt and dark chocolate. Not as complex as a lot of stouts but at the same time its flavor was solid.

22 oz. Standar black coloring, some faint brown around the edges but very little. Head as just a whispy ring of off white.

Very subdued aroma, what there is could be called roast malt, dark chocolate. Some coffee as it warmed.

Taste is some roast malt, more coffee. Tinge of sour coffee grounds. Just all around muted.

Unfortunately very thin. Watery cold coffee mouthfeel. Some carbonation could really help this one out. Goes down easy enough and I like the low abv, but it just doesn't beg for one to drink more even as a light stout.

Probably a good ession brew on tap at the brewpub. This bottle is probably a bit old.
