Enjoyed on tap at the Liberty Street Brewery. Pours a stoplight amber color with a decent amount of clarity and only a very mild chill haze. The silky and foamy white head is quick to recess and turns into a faint skin and ring barely covering the top of the beer. Aside from a few small, wet spots, no real lacing was left on the glass.
Not much to the aroma, here. Very modest and light on all fronts - musty hops that are quickly followed up by some citrus peel and lemon zest. On the back, I'm picking up some yeast-like aromas as well. Overall, it's kind of zesty and fresh - I could picture this being nice on a warm day outside, but I wish the aroma were a big stronger. You really have to dig to get anything out of it, even after it warms up. The aromas that finally DO come out, though, are pretty nice and refreshing.
The taste begins with a very smooth banana-taffy flavor; honestly, it's faintly reminiscent of the banana flavored Laffy Taffy. Some light residual-like sugary sweetness that's quickly overrun by a handful of bread and yeast flavors. It's got a Big League Chew bubblegum essence to it, but not exactly in the same way that Belgian yeast smells. This is a bit fruitier. The finish contains a hint of kitchen spices, as well as the dying banana flavored sweetness. Crisp and wet mouth feel, thin bodied with pretty ample carbonation.
Certainly not a bad Blonde Ale. I could picture this being great on a hot summer day. Nice banana taffy flavors, pretty unique. I wish the smell was a bit more dominant, though - it was far too weak. Otherwise, a solid, easy-drinker.
