Pi is a pizza restaurant located in the East Loop area, just across the street from the Pagaent concert venue. It opened in March of '08 (on 3-17, get it?), and has been becoming a great beer destination since. It's a sleek, minimalist place with a long bar on the left separated from the main dining room by a partial wall. There is a second dining room too. The entire establishment is non-smoking, and the restaurant is vocally environmentally-conscious the decisions they make regarding their operation.
Only draft beer is available, with 12 selections currently. The emphasis is on local and regional craft beer, but best of all it rotates frequently. There have been lots of different offerings from Schlafly, Bell's, New Belgium, Griesedieck, and others. There is sometimes a less than stellar selection (i.e. Blue Moon), but it usually disappears as quickly as the good stuff. Best of all is management's rising commitment to good beer - they really seem to see the value of being a beer destination.
Each afternoon (I believe 4-6, call to confirm) they have a happy hour with one of the beers available for $2 a pint. One very happy Friday recently it was Bell's Two-Hearted Ale.
The menu is simple, with a couple of appetizers, a handful of salads (all very tasty), a couple of desserts (apple pie, and a rotating seasonal pie), and pizza. We're huge fans of the deep dish, which is somewhat in a Chicago-style: one thick crust; crushed tomatoes on top of the fillings. Pi's change-up is a hearty whack of cornmeal in the crust which makes for a delightfully crisp bottom layer, and a pillow soft interior. Not as big a fan of the thin crust, but many others are.
This place is in our regular rotation and off to a solid start beer-wise. With some gentle nudging and support, I think it could make the leap to be a real beer destination.

Well, ya know, if big Dave gave a thumbs up to place, I say ya gotta try it. And damn, this was one great night out.
This is just a smart and cool joint with on open air atmosphere, and accommodating staff - from the greeters, to the bar, to the waitresses. A nice bar currently offers the following on draft:
o Schlafly Pale Ale
o Schlafly Saison
o Schlafly Oktoberfest
o Odell IPA
o Charleville Tornado Alley Amber
o New Belgium Hoptober
o New Belgium 1554
o New Belgium Lips of Faith
Not to bad of a lineup for a pizza place - which btw, has some of the best pi around. No smoking, so one can fully enjoy the food and the beer. They do have a daily special from 4 to 6 on one/couple beers.
