The Bottle has a best enjoyed by date on it, yet none of the dates were notched out. When poured the Coal Porter appears dark brown, but if you take a closer look it has a reddish tint to it. The beer has a faint smell of what a porter should be, could be metallic. The taste is light, its virtually flavorless. I kept drinking it in hope that it would improve. Well it didn't

Served in a pint glass at WVBC. The color was black, with a slight tan head. The smell was a nice, dry maltiness. The taste had a nice initial coffee/hop bitterness, with a bit of chocolate malt in the middle of the taste, and a very bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel was average. As for drinkability, could have quite a few.

WVBC is sadly handcuffed by the stupid 6% law in West Virginia, but they can certainly come through with fine beers, and this is a perfect example. A nice dry porter with just a hint of a chocolate taste, and one I'll look for in coming years when I'm in Morgantown.
