From the depths of the BeerFrigerator in the cellar here at Chez Woody comes an ancient bottle that also made the trip from Mom-Za's in early-2009. I was recently asked how I can produce so many vintage beers, but the answer is simple - I traveled extensively while continuing to procure. Once the tipping point was met & broached, I soon had more beer that I could deal with. Circumstances now dictate some catching-up.

From the Bottle: "Belgium Lambic spontaneously fermented beer flavored with natural juice of Peach and matured in Oak Casks".

The opening was a two-step process, beginning with prising off a heavy crown cap. Following that, I utilized a combination corkscrew/bottle opener & other devices to Pop! out the deeply-set cork! I recently scored that device at the local church's monthly rummage sale & it turned out to be quite a heavy-duty appliance. The pour was as slow as could manage, but it really did not matter as the lees were now firmly ensconced in/on the punt/kick. Color was a gorgeous solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled like peach preserves! If there was any question as to the inclusion of peaches in this beer's recipe, this nullified any & all doubt! Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was only lightly tart, causing a minimal amount of lip-smacking on my part, but it tasted like peach jam/preserves/butter. OMFG! This was SOOO good. It begged to be spread on toast. My aging had not done it any harm and it had actually mellowed it out as I remember it as being SUPER-tart 15-+ years ago. Finish was dry, but VERY peachy. I am going to savor this one for a bit.

Very sweet, lot of fizz. Not a lot of substance. Comes across mostly like a sparkling peach wine. Not bad, but not my normal style. It was fine for a hot day but won't be buying this regularly.

Crystal clear, smells like funky peach, but tastes like peach champagne. Not sour and far too much residual sugar. Not even close to a traditional lambic.

A: The beer is clear pale yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that gradually died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge and some lacing on the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of peaches are present in the nose.
T: Much like the smell, the taste has flavors of peaches, although they don't seem fresh and seem a bit syrupy.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a low amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink, but seems like it could use some more carbonation.

It's the color of peach if not tilting a little to the lighter side. It's got complete calrity...in fact, it looks a little flat. The bottle has instructions on how to tilt the glass and pour slowly to control and create a healthy head. Not a problem, as it goes down as quickly as it came up. All that remains is a thin and wispy bit at the edges. Very little lacing is left in tiny spots.
It actually doesn't smell too sweet, but they're definitely off-track on what they think a Lambic ashould be. Instead of tartness and funk, it's wild, uncontrolled and less coordinated funk that also smells of cork. What's going on here, exactly? It's not the worst, but it's just not right.
In the taste, the cork funk returns and the main difference is that it's quite sweet. I don't ind it to be cloying, as some do, but it's up there as far as sweetness goes. It's kind of a sugary peach. It's actually pretty pleasant as pure, fresh peach juice taste comes in.
There's a little crispness starting it off, but it doesn't last. It's quite syrupy and sticky and a little thin in the body. Eh.
