Review from notes. 2010 vintage.
Poured deep chestnut color with a light beige head. Ruby hues in the light. The head diminished quickly, leaving a thin trail of bubbles. Lots of deep, dark dried fruits. Hard to discern specifics though. Caramel malt is prominent and there is but a decent undertone of bitterness and pine. Maybe some vanilla and chocolate in there too. Pretty intense alcohol nose and bite. Perhaps this is a bit young yet, having just picked up a dozen of these fresh from the brewery 2 weeks after bottling, but it definitely has potential to age into something beautiful.

served draft into a goblet, at the Collegeville brewpub location.
appears a dark amber almost brown color. no head whatsoever.
sweet aroma of caramel malt and just a hint of dark fruit. malt dominates the taste as well, sweetness is balanced. little hop presence. body is fairly thick, with lower carbonation, which works well.
overall - an average barleywine. but I think this is mis-classified as an American style. without a strong hop presence, I think it's better described as an English style.
