Sampled from a 12 oz bottle. Pours a simple orangish gold with a miniscule white bubbly head. Aroma of caramel malt with some pine & citrus. Wave of caramel up front with a bit of bitterness and some mildly citrusy hops. Continues with a solid base of biscuit & caramel malt, some fruity esters, & definitely evidence of dry hopping. Finishes moderately bitter & reasonably drinkable.

Into a pint glass:
A: light amber colored body that leaves no head, minimal lacing is left.
S: malts up front with a bit of floral/earthiness going on.
T: basically the same adding a bit of graininess.
M: light to medium leaving a dry feel on the tongue yet nothing harsh there either, sessionable
O: decent but nothing to go out of my way for again

This brew poured with a one finger, pure white head, with no lacing left on the glass. There was significant visible carbonation on the brew. The body is a golden color and clear. The nose is muted. I can get citrus, but I almost have to stick my nose in the brew. This is not a good sign. When I taste the brew, I get some limited bitterness and a lot of malt. I’m confused. Really, really, confused. I thought this was a pale ale? I was apparently wrong. This tastes almost like a lager. The finish was quick. But, all in all, if I was home, this would be a drain pour. Instead, I just left half of it. Not a good brew.

First had: on tap at the Collegeville brewpub
Slightly hazy, amber-orange color, with a small white head that receded to a wispy layer of tiny bubbles. Aroma was essentially non-existent. Sad for a pale ale, in which I like to get a nice scent of fresh American hops. Taste was bland and muted, grainy, stale citrusy hops, cardboard. Not even much in the aftertaste other than a trace of bitterness. Light and watery, which if anything made this easily going down, but lacking in freshness and flavor as it was, I wouldn't ever order this one again or recommend it to anyone other than macro drinkers.

On cask at ABC in a ceramic mug. From what I can tell it has a nice golden brown color and the head is limited but often can be from the cask. Piney hop aroma. Flavor is consistent with the nose and the cask significantly improves the level of hop flavoring from the regular tap/bottle of Purist.
