The beer pours a cloudy gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a solid pale and wheat malt scent along with a wonderfully fruity yeast aroma. It has a very nice banana/clove character with just a hint of citrus. The taste is outstanding. It has a perfect malt bill that's got lots of wheat, yet enough pale malts to round out the flavor. It goes down easy with a great yeasty finish. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a well brewed hefe. It tastes like something right out of Bavaria.

Poured hazy orange with a tall fluffy head. It's a slightly maltier hefe, but still true to the style - there's just a litle more biscuit it to it. There's a bready note similar to very mild oxidation, but I don't think that's what it is and it's not a bad flavor. The banana is pretty minimal, but there's a pleasant spicy clove character. Worth a try.

Appears a hazy cloud of orange with a decent white head and some sticky white lacing that clings nicely.
Smell is of toasted wheat, coriander, pepper, and light fruit.
Taste is of the same aromas described above.
Mouthfeel is light and slich, rolling to the back of the tongue with all the flavors nice and pronounced.
Drinkability is really nice. What a perfect brew for a hot day.

On draft at the brewery.

Poured a bright hazy straw hue with a one finger frothy white head. There was good retention and sticky lacing.

The smell featured a classic estery hefe yeast.

The taste consisted of a chewy wheat malt, estery yeast and spicy hop.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall a very tasty hefe.

Pours a cloudy mix of white and amber with a one-finger head into my glass.

Banana and clove aromas jump at the nose. It's sweet as well due to the wheat.

Taste is a mix of citrus, clove and banana with a strong emphasis on the clove. Not bad. Average for the style.

Lingering citrus and clove flavors dominate the mouthfeel. Regardless, very sutble and enjoyable.

This beer is perfect for a hot day by the pool. It's more like an american pale wheat but does that really matter in this heat?

pretty good american hefeweizen. pours darker than some of the european offerings. cloudy wheat color with lots of active bubbles rising to the surface and forming a nice soapy white head. smells like clove for sure, spicy yeast, wheat malt, and maybe a touch of honey. flavor is very well balanced with the yeast complexity being most distinct. there is a touch of fresh vanilla bean right up front, and a lemon sort of finish. very refreshing, very sessionable. mouthfeel is nice, more body than a lot of these, which i like, and very spirited carbonation, perfect for summer in the adirondaks. i really like this one, which i havent seen before this year. check it out.

A - Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a finger of crisp white head atop. The head fades down fairly quickly to a thin layer leaving behind some spots of lace.

S - Aroma is a mix of wheat and citrus fruits (lemon and orange). There are also some spices that are very noticeable in the nose.

T - Starts off with some wheat flavor and some lemon flavor as well. There is just a bit of banana in th background as well that grows. Through the middle, some stronger banana and spices come out. The finish is a mix of lemon and wheat flavors that linger nicely.

M - Medium-light bodied with moderate lively carbonation. Feels really smooth and crisp. The finish has a nice amount of sweetness and is fairly clean and refreshing.

D - Very drinkable. The banana flavor is really nice and everything feels really balanced. The finish is really clean and only a bit of wheat flavor.

12oz bottle from Bessette's Canton NY for 8.99$/6pack

Appearance – Hazy amber colour with an average size fizzy off-white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation and there is some faint lacing. The head lasted for around 3-4 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains/wheat, banana, light citrus, clove

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation. I can taste grains/bread mixed with lemons/oranges and some bananas. There is also a bit of a honey sweetness and some corn and a clove spiciness. It ends with a slightly bittersweet aftertaste.

Overall – Good not great.. It seems to be lacking a bit of a fruity punch. It's more on the bready/grainy side of things which leaves it a little boring. Still very drinkable and above average.

Got it on tap at the brewpub on August 10, 2010.

A: Body is cloudy, pale yellow in color, with a 2-finger white head that settles to a meringue-like foam. Leaves good lace.

S: Nice hefe nose -- banana and clove is there, as well as a touch of lemon.

T: Great example of the style - lemon, clove and banana up front. Finishes dry and lemony, with a touch of generic citrus.

M: Light-bodied, smooth carbonation.

D: Excellent. Drank this one down quickly, liked it a lot better then their Summer Ale (Grace's) that I'd had previously.

Notes: The literature at the brewpub claimed they use a "Weihenstephan" yeast strain. That could explain why I liked this one so much, as I'm a big fan of Weihenstephaner's hefe. Great job with this one.

Poured from bottle into weizen glass

Appearance – Pours a hazy orange color with a huge white head. The head faded relatively fast at first, but then formed a very persistent one finger foam. This thick foam lasted for some time but eventually did fade to give a moderate amount of lacing.

Smell – Aromas of pepper, yeast and lemon are the heaviest. Mixed with these are aromas of wheat as well as a light banana smell.

Taste – The taste begins big of wheat and yeast. These flavors are soon meet with a lemon and sweet orange citrus flavor which overall sweeten the flavor. These flavors carry the taste to it’s middle, where they are then met with some yeast and pepper flavors. These flavors intensify and take the taste to the end.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is rather average.

Overall – A pretty tasty hefeweizen. It has nice sweetness that melds well with the yeasty, wheaty, and citrus flavors.

A fairly traditional take on a classic hefeweizen and a pretty good one at that. Looks the part, nicely cloudy, slightly dark amber, two fingers of white foamy head. Retention is decent, lacing is patchy and small. Aroma of wheat, banana, spices, light lemony citrus.

Flavor follows the nose as expected; the yeasty notes of banana and clove and the like are all there but are somewhat subdued. Again there is a light but persistent lemon note and modestly sweet malt and wheat flavors.

Medium-light bodied with crisp carbonation. Not bad, but not perhaps as clean and dry as the best of the style. Still, a pretty decent hefeweizen nonetheless.

Edit: not knocking any points off of this one but these guys have to be careful about serving old kegs or the dregs of the kegs. Held a party at the brewery and about half the way through this beer became pretty awful, taking on a soupy appearance with tons of floaties and minimal carbonation. Pretty much undrinkable. That's not something that should ever occur, obviously, particularly if they're interested in being taken seriously as a brewpub. Yuck.

Hazy golden wheat color. Fluffy, sticky off-white head. Aroma and taste are on par with the German imports, IMHO. Rich mouthfeel and pleasant banana/clove and lemon tartness. This Hefe’s got some substance but still retains its refreshing qualities. Very much a traditional Hefe Weizen in all of its characteristics. Impressive local brew. I hope to find this again soon. Sampled (multiple times) at the 2003 Flour City Brewers Festival in Rochester.

Another fine product from Lake Placid. Not the prettiest of brews nor the most aromatic....however the taste is very close to being exceptional.
I found the taste a mystery...each sip seemed a little different than the former yet similar. Very fruitmash like to begin, with a hint of clove with a slight hoppy end.
A full bodied offering with a limited nose.
Very refreshing.

Cloudy with an off white head. Not the best glass for this but still some lace to go with the decent size head. Dusky golden color with some carbonation evident. Smell has a nice amount of banana and wheat malt. A hint of clove and cinnamon. Taste is consistent with a good quality german Hefe. Crisp wheat malt and an load of yeasty fruitiness. Banana and clove flow into a mild but gently firm bitterness. Finish is dry and grainy with an slight metallic bitterness. The dryness gives this one an advantage in the thirst quenching department. Feel is crisp and effervescent with a good balance of lightness in the medium weight. This is a really good overall brew and one of the better domestic hefes.

Pours a hazy copper body with golden hues and a thin off white head that quickly disappears.

Aromas consist of yeast, clove and faint citrus hops as well as banana.

The flavor is a bit spicier with clove, a touch of herbal spices, yeast, and citrus.

Medium in body with medium carbonation and a cloying finish.

Darker than its traditional counterparts and hopper as well but a nice American twist to this German style.

Popping the top this brew yields a malty love smell. Pours to a hazy dark yellow with a thin medium bubble head that quickly recedes. On the taste, the brew has a very upfront rich maltiness and a floral hoppiness. The taste transitions to a sweet and sour middle, then finishes with a very chaulky bitterness that is not so much bitter but puts hair on your tongue. Mouthfeel is one you could stand a spoon in. This is a robust hefe. Very good job LPCD.

A: Quite orangey, dark golden with very decent haze (darker end of color spectrum for style). Fluffy off-white head pops up to okay size but falls fast. A few bubbles a visible even with the haze. Lacing is rather sparse.

S: Banana and cloves – leaning a bit more to the banana. Bready & sweet. Rather than distinctly wheaty, there is a fair amount of malt and even some caramel. And, Is that diacetyl? No hops. Minimal yeast.

T: Banana more restrained and cloves just a touch more forward. Sweet, bready base is a little doughy and more clearly wheat. But there is also the light cystal too and yes indeed there is some noticeable diacetyl. I really like it in there 46er ale but it is distracting in this one. Mild yeast note in the background that grows softly peppery or even spicey. Or maybe that might be tied in with the slight herbal (mostly) hop impression that builds into the mix. I believe I am also getting a slight bit of oxidation. The hefe I had at the brew pub had neither the diacetyl nor the oxidation.

M: Body is about medium, maybe just under. Carbonation is matched and then just a frogs hair more. No tartness at all – it stays pretty sweet with a clean and even finish.

D: Fair and pleasant drinking from the bottle, but it was quite a bit better on tap. I was looking forward to this review after sampling it at the pub. In fairness, the bottle could be old. Got to get the hefes fresh, can’t be having no old hefes.

Straight pour from a pry-off 12oz bottle to tulip, no date

Appearance (4.0): Hazy golden body just clear enough to see the outline of your fingers through. Big, fine off-white head settling at 2 ½ fingers before finally dying down to half a finger. Some lacing.

Smell (4.0): BANANAS! Lots and lots of bananas, with clove coming in second but never replacing the bananas. Some nice hefe yeast scent. Very nice—approachable, but spot-on for the style.

Taste (4.0): Wheaty, hefe yeastiness comes in first, followed by some bananas more moderate than in the nose, with some clove flavor underneath. A little spiciness with the yeast. Relatively mild, which is more than okay—this is a highly sessionable hefe, and I could easily see myself enjoying a few. Front to back: a little mildly spicy hefe yeast, with banana and mild clove on the mid-palate, with just a little spice and more banana in the finish. Really enjoying it. Spiciness increases as it warms.

Mouthfeel (4.0): Relatively watery, with carbonation on the low side; even so, the body of the beer imparts a smooth silkiness to it, in spite of low carb and almost non-existent hop profile. Not chewy by any means, this beer still resembles a beverage, unlike many.

Overall (4.5): Maybe not a perfect hefe, since it doesn’t explode with this flavor or that, but it’s balanced, goes down smooth and invites second and third sips very quickly. This is an excellent session hefe, so kudos to Lake Placid for that. Pick up a sixer, because you’ll want more than one.

A : pours a hazy and bright yellow with a tinge of orange. Big fluffy white head. Super lacing on all sides.

S : smells of German hefe yeast, bananas and cloves, a bit of lemon zest and black pepper undertones. Not sure how to explain it but smells fresh.

T : super bready with a bunch of yeast and citrus. Finishes wet, clean and banana flavored. A bit peppery as well.

M : light to medium bodied And clean finishing.

An ok hefe but nothing making me jump out of my chair. A good summer brew

On tap at the brew pub in Lake Placid. Very cloudy, very yellow, looks very thick, like it was pulpy grapefuit juice. There was a smoky spicyness to the scent, with cloves popping in. Had a lemony spicy taste, with a touch of salt, apple cider and peaches. It is indeed so spicy that it is a bit hard to drink, the spicyness contributing to the fairly full bodied mouthfeel. Overall a nice beer, and a style I need to get more in touch with.

12 oz. bottle, purchased at the brewery in Lake Placid, late September, 2011. No date information but undoubtedly this year’s production.

Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier Glass

Pours a fairly thin head, but does have a beautiful golden amber color and very lively carbonation. With a little swirl you produce an instant head, which unfortunately does not last.

Big hit of banana, and yeast in the smell when first opened, followed by bread, golden malt, and just a hint of spicy hops.

Delicious, wonderfully carbonated entry onto the palate, very champagne like mouth feel, followed by nice crisp yeast dominated flavors. The light but very intriguing gold malt follows from the smell right into the flavor of this ale. Medium bodied, with a faint sweetness, which balances out this ale very well.

Good finish of yeast/wheat/golden malt.

Overall a delicious Hefe. Probably a little past its prime, but I believe it was well stored at the brewery, and it’s still quite good. Certainly of high quality and competes well with its peers. With warming this ale begins to lose some of its best qualities so drink it cold, (45 degrees), and quick.

I found the brewery itself to be very nice, with all wood interior and outdoor seating. Lots of friendly folks drinking beer!

Poured into a Maredsous goblet. Because, hey, why the hell not?

A: Man, there ain't no polite way to say something looks like urine. And not even a regular day's pee, but really dark like when you're hungover and dehydrated. I'd usually expect something a little lighter from a hefe. Even the head was more off-white than white.

S: Spicy cloves and a bit of hay. Lacking in bannannerness.

T: Yep, 'nanner notes take a backseat to relatively heavy clove spice and mild wheat background.

M: Creamy. Bubbly. Etc.

O: Nice. Leave it in the bottle and enjoy.

Sampled at the 2003 Vermont Brewers Festival

A rather nice hefeweizen, it poured with a nice light yellow body and a thin white head with a nice haze to it. The aroma was nice and fruity, almost lemony, with a hint of spicy. The taste was similar, and what I expect from a good hefeweizen: tangy and light, with a nice yeastiness. A nice light mouthfeel, very refreshing. Very drinkable, and one of the better beers I sampled that day.

I tried this Hefeweizen at a beer tasting at a local distributor. It poured a nice hefe cloudy/creamy yellow golden with creamy head.

The nose was clean and of banana and clove.

The taste was very nice and clean and the banana again shown through. After finishing the tasting I felt as if I had just eaten a banana nut bread. Very nice finish.

The mouthfeel was creamy and chewy and meshed very well with the nose and taste.

Overall this is a very nice "German" style hefe that I would reccomend to any fan of beer. In fact I'm going back for more. Enjoy!!!
