Notes:
Inspired by the original Alt-style beer of Dusseldorf, Crooked Coast brings together the aromas of German noble hops and Munich malt to produce a very refreshing and mellow ale that is the perfect companion on any shape of coast.

First beer of NYE 2010 and best drink of beer I've had all year. Pours with a honeycombed" head like the interior of a crunchie bar. A malty driver with hops in the backseat. Caramel interior, smooth on the corners, full bodied after burner. A real treat.

Part of my CanBIF 2013 haul. Thanks Boozecamel!

Poured from a 650ml. bottle, no freshness info.

Appearance: A murky brown with a ruddy complexion, very creamy head that leaves a mark.

Smell: Nutty, caramel malt, crisp, refreshing, earthy, sharp fruit (apricot).

Taste: Face full of malt, slight mineral edge, earthen hops, nuts galore.

Mouthfeel: Full, little sweet & bitter kick.

Overall: Straightforward and good but not as good as Parallel 49's.

Poured from 22oz/650ml bomber into beer mug

Appearance (What's Inside): Pours a nice deep amber with a fairly generous head and little lacing. Nice looking brew. Unfiltered, but not extremely cloudy. some foam relaxes on the sides of the glass.

Smell: floral, slightly sour. Not too much going on here.

Taste: an initial and lingering bitterness, with the wheat and malts also present. Initially bracing, an almost grapefruitlike flavour develops. the flavours come to the surface more as the beer warms.

Mouthfeel: Pleasant, medium carbonation, a bit gassy.. Wheat and bitter hops camp out for quite awhile, also leaving some acidity.

I think this was a good effort by Driftwood. They're local and stayed pretty true to the style, while adding their own twist. This is an easy drinking brew, a little light for some tastes, but it's well-made. That said, the criteria is- is it the world's finest microbrew Amber Ale? No. Still above average? Yes. I could see sharing this with some of my friends.

Very well crafted beer.

Poured from bomber into 13 oz. glass

1 1/2 fingers of head on first pour, lots of bubbles. Great lacing. Full two fingers on second. Beautiful colour. Head stayed around until I drank, and even then it still hasn't zeroed, 4 mins and half a glass later.

Smell is light citrus, with a bit of malt

taste is a lot of malt, with a mildly hoppy finish

Mouthfeel is maybe the biggest drawback, a little thin.

Definately would buy again

Pours a deep amber with a fluffy white head that sticks around. Great lacing. The smell is tettnanger hops with some toasty malt. Starts with some hop bitterness, then moves right into the herbal and citrus hops with a very well balanced toasty/sweet malt with notes of molasses and candied apple. Nice carbonation bite and smooth finish.

Overall, a very tasty brew. As far as session beers go, this is absolutely fantastic.

660 mL bottle purchased at Luxe Lune, Winnipeg, MB. Shared and poured into sleeves.

In the dark environment, the beer pours a deep brownish hue that seems clear with a nice tan head. Toasty munich malts with a spicy aroma come across the nose and the body delivers a wonderfully light malt body with slight hop notes. Well put together and subtle beer. Worth having again, so I ordered a second bottle to share.

A: Poured a clear amber brown with 2 fingers of beige head, full cap of retention. Tiny active bubbles stream up suggestive of the level of carbonation.

S: Mingling of hops and malts. Sweet burnt sugars something like if someone tried frying candied orange peels. Hints of fresh salt water, and notes of a mellow woody bark, if you've ever tasted woody rosemary, it smells like taht.

T: This taste is complex and wonderfully interesting. It's as if the malts and hops were in a race, each nudging the other out for first place. The results seems to be a mellowed woodsy herbaceous hops flavour, I imagine it tastes like the bark of a grapefruit tree, or woody rosemary. The lingering hops are absent of the fresh florals notes found in some IPAs, but highlight that earthy bitter note instead.

M: Tiny bubbles barely prick the tongue and mellow to a mildly creamy finish. A little thin, & a little creamy on the finish.

O: Interesting play of hops and malts, bitter and smooth. This brew is a delicate well managed balance. Try it with a a hard goat cheese and some dried figs, or a stewed red meat.
