A: Dark copper color
S: Strong smell of pine and hops
T: The hop flavor is intense. Also a hint of pine.
M/D: Medium carbonation. Very dry and it almost makes you thirsty as you drink it. The taste of the beer doesn't leave very quickly so I would suggest not eating anything with this beer because you won't be able to taste it.
Overall I am not a big fan of this beer because it seems like they just made it super hoppy just so they could call it mechahopzilla. Not a sessionable beer at all and I couldn't drink more than one because the hop taste is so intense. Definitely better DIPA's out there so I wouldn't waste my time with this one again.

Had this one at the source while visiting New Orleans for Cantillon Zwanze Day! Served from tap into a NOLA shaker. Poured red-orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained nice lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, earth, citrus hop, earth hop, and spice. The flavor was of sweet malt, citrus, citrus hop, spice, spicy hop, and earth. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. The citrus note going on here was really nice and inviting. On top of this I really enjoyed the spicy notes going on when mixed with the citrus as it added a nice touch of balance while still being interesting. A pretty well done brew that I would love to have again in my own area.

On tap at Avenue Pub
A: Pours a perfectly clear dark copper color. A towering white head forms with excellent retention and lace.
S: Bitter pine up front that dominates until this warms up a little. Grassy, juicy citrus aromas.
T: Follows the nose with bitter pine and resin. Grassy citrus hops come out next. A lingering bitterness lasts forever.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. I wish this was a bit more crisp and clean. Very dry though. Even with the high alcohol and bitter finish, this is still enjoyable to drink.
A nice DIPA. Similar to Saint Arnold's Endeavor, but less fruity and juicy flavors. I would really like some more fruity flavors to come out and maybe help with the bitterness. Though still a nice DIPA to sip on.

Had this before it was officially released, at the brewery. This honestly reminded me of Pliny. Yes, you probably think I'm off my rocker after that statement. The floral hopiness was strong, fresh, and crisp, but didn't have a lingering bitter aftertaste that ruins it for me. It went down very smooth, the alcohol quickly snuck up on me, especially in that hot NOLA summer heat. I could seriously drink this all day, every day. I thought NOLA did a great job with this offering, only wish it was available where I live.

Finally a big beer from NOLA. Tap only for now, and a growler ran me almost $20 at the Avenue Pub in New Orleans.
A: Deep, glowing copper. Some visible carbonation. A thin head after a strong pour with chunky bubbles popping actively.
S: Wonderfully juicy citrus smell accompanied by some light bubblegummy smells. Most impressive part of the beer.
T: Not as sweet or rich as the nose leads you to believe. Quite balanced for a DIPA and decently layered complexity. It starts with an unfortunate wateriness, gets juicy and slightly earthy, and ends with a slow but long hop burn. It's more pleasant than explosive and a little lacking in richness.
M: A strike here for a surprisingly thin body.
O: This is the first DIPA in Louisiana I know will be extremely fresh on consumption, so there's that. But the mouthfeel is clearly imperfect and the taste disappoints somewhat after the nose. Finally, the price point is cause for balking. NOLA is a small brewery and Hopzilla just debuted last week, but this is an average DIPA priced like a premium one right now.
