Notes:
This is an American style stout that has sweet malt flavors of caramel and chocolate, complimented by a crisp bitterness produced by roasted barley and American Hops. The complex malt bill of pale and roasted malts result in this well balanced stout that is smooth, rich, dark and delicious! And watch out – ABV 6.8%!

On tap at dba in nola. Pours black (hard to tell if more subtle colors cause it's dark in here) with a finger thick brown creamy head. Smell is mainly chocolate, a little faint. Taste is very good chocolate, hint of dark fruit and tobacco, nice smoke flavor which picks up on the back end. Feel is really great. Creamy up front with smooth finish. Very drinkable stout. Glad the bartender steered me towards this one from the local selection. Excellent.

Had this one at the source while visiting New Orleans for Cantillon Zwanze Day! Served from tap into a NOLA shaker. Poured a massively dark red-brown with a three finger tan head that subsided to one finger slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, cream, earth, milk chocolate, earth hop, and roasted malt. The flavor was of sweet malt, milk chocolate, cream, roasted malt, and dark chocolate. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. For the style this one had a lot of the aspects that one would expect with the roastiness and subtle sweetness to go along with it. This made it easy to drink and fairly enjoyable at the same time. I just wish there would have been something else to make this one standout from the other brews from the style. Glad I got to try this one and suggest you do the same if you are a fan of the style.

Appearance- Motor oil black relatively thick and opaque, nice frothy dark brown head.
Smell- roasted malty sugars and dark chocolate maybe a hint of dark roast coffee but this nose is relatively mild.
Mouthfeel/taste- very full carbonation beautiful roasted malt and chocolate flavors which become very dry and tannin like. keeps me coming back for another sip. Medium to long finish.
Overall- a big stout, not an imperial or double by any means but not your average dry irish stout either. A favorite of mine the whole season long (feb/march through april/may) wish they made it year round.
Note-compared a 9-12 month old bottle of 2011 to the fresh draft of 2012 and the 2011 had more mellow carbonation and silky mouthfeel but was still great beer. A sign of the quality and the care that goes into this great stout.
(review from March 2012 just got around to posting from old notes)

Poured from tap into flute style new castle-like pint glass. Pours a deep brown/black/slight amber color with a nice thick head and sticky lacing. Smells of roasted milk stout and slight hops and maybe a hint of candied dried fruit...
Taste is really nice and smooth. Roasted malts, slight coffee and sweet milk like stout and an ever so slight dried candied fruit. Really nice stout. Full of flavors and smooth. Nice offering from NOLA.

Thanks to jjfoodie for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. The predominant flavor is cocoa powder, with some medium roasted malts also thrown in. Even with all of the malt, the beer is very dry. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Served at the Barley Oak in Mandeville, LA
Appearance: it took a long time get this beauty because the head just kept sitting there at the bar. After 10 minutes of so, the tan, 5 finger head finally crept down to a workable size. This brew is black, black with a Guiness Stout attitude. Major lacing.
Smell: chocolate and yeast dominate.
Taste: very similar to a Guiness Extra Stout; a take no prisoners taste that's rich and smooth. Smokey chocolate malts with a hop finish that doesn't bite.
Mouthfeel: thick and frothy. Makes your tongue sit up and take notice.
Overall: If you like kick-ass stouts, NOLA's Irish Channel will take you on in a knife fight for bragging rights. A mean, lusty drink for big boy tastes.
