Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a medium small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light cereal notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by quite a bit of tart notes with some light spicy rye notes that are also perceptible. Body is quite full with medium carbonation. Not bad but a lot more sour then expected which makes it hard to distinguish some of the rye malt.

#BOTG 134.

Muled from San Antonio for me by my buddy Will (Canadianghetto). Thanks Will! Poured from 22oz bomber into my Brooklyn tulip. Pours a pretty cloudy golden orange color. Not much head, no real retention to speak of. Decent appearance. Smell- juicy orange peel, some candied sugar, clove, banana. Clove and fruit are dominant. Taste- a lot drier than I expected, but a nice creamy mouthfeel. I get big clove, vanilla, dreamcicle (all I could really think of to describe the play between the creaminess and the orange/fruit play. What is not here that I was expecting was a big sweet backbone. But, it actually lends itself to making this easier to drink- I will have no problem taking this down. I also get some cinnamon on the end, back of the throat. Overall, this is an enjoyable beer, I am always happy to enjoy Freetail brews.

On tap at the brewpub.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of orange citrus and coriander notes, as well as a good deal of wheat. The flavor is similar. I get a ton of juicy orange notes as well as some coriander and white pepper. There is also a strong wheat and biscuit malt note, as well as some noticeable alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle pour sampled at mrbubbler's tasting courtesy of mrbubbler himself.

Pours a murky yellow with an off-white head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, spices, yeast, and fruit. Taste is the same but the yeast flavor dominates things in my opinion. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a better taste than smell.

Thanks to smithjl10 for feeding my addiction, sending this among four (4) bottles of rye brew to the great land of the disappearing winter. That should keep me for a few days. 22 oz. bomber.

Poured into a couple pint glasses, this is a fuzzy, almost solid light yellow, like a crayon you'd use to represent the sun. The nose is unexpected. Massive notes of pear, a small spice cabinet sans the cabinet, pepper. Yowza.

Witicus is clearly ancient Latin for 'freakishly strange with a dash of odd and undercurrents of bizarre'. Twisted pear dominates the taste, along with a triple entendre of spicy Belgian yeast. The rye arrives mid-palate amid the dust & fog. Other bit actors enter stage right & exit without note: orange peel, sweet Hawaiian bread, bittering hops, wheat, bread dough. Wow. The layers have layers, like a Shellworld (that's an Ian Banks reference, for you heathens out there). The complexity causes my hand to rise & grasp almost of its own volition.

This is a beautiful, big, brawny, brawler of a rye beer. The rye isn't dominant, but it's showcased nonetheless in an uncontrolled riot of tastes & complexity. Gorgeous. Excellent brew.

Another rarity shared by Eric (TurdFurgison). Served in a plastic cup at Kuhnhenn Winter Solstice.

A - Looks similar to Woodicus, but with less foam and lace and a slightly lighter shade of peach yellow.

S - Peppery Belgian yeast, light cake batter, fruity esters, stone fruits, hint of pineapple, coriander, and perhaps a touch of phenolic and estery alcohol.

T - I like the taste better, as it does away with the harsher Belgian yeast notes and replaces them with honey, fruity esters, caramel, wheat, and a kiss of rye malt. Bready and yeasty, but not phenolic.

M - Medium body, medium-high carbonation, dry texture, and light warming alcohol.

D - An interesting beer, combining elements of Witbier, Belgian Strong Pale, and Rye Beer. No major problems, but occasionally the flavors don't integrate as well as I'd like.
