It’s landed! This pours a light golden yellow, like concord grape juice. Exceptional clarity and crispness in the glass. Intriguing aroma, with a distinct tartness that’s immediately present, rounded, musty and citrusy. One of Freetail’s barrel-aged alchemic creations. Tastes sour, tart and really funky. There’s a light effervescence to it that coats the mouth followed by a pleasing finish with a flavor reminiscent of white wine or a champagne. Mildly tart and tannic, with a dry finish—until you realize around the edges there’s a rounded sweetness that makes it all the more interesting.

On tap at Freetail 12 oz. $6.50 goblet 6.8.12.

Deep gold body chill haze thin broken layer of head. Big waft of orange peel in the nose a bit of cardamon no discernible hop aroma a bit floral if anything. Taste is a bit on the sweet side wee spice . Mouthfeel medium finish dry but a bit sticky. Needed more spice to offset the sweetness. Note thid batch ABV listed ad 8.5%.

Been waiting for awhile to get a chance to try the "number one rated brew pub" in Texas's beer.

A: A deep golden yellow body that is slightly opaque, topped off with a one finger off white head that dissapates quickly and exibited no lacing.

S: Smell of honey is largly present mixed in with a bit of citrus and sugar. I also detected hints of floral and notes of spice.

T: Sweet beginning from those malts, hops due shine through farely quickly with a surprising spicy bitter aftertaste.

M: Typical tingles from the medium carbonation.

O: I was really excited for my first beer from Freetail and after hearing/reading such good things this beer kinda let me down. This is a good, but by no means great brew that is worth a try even if only once.

A: Pours an effervescent and clear copper/orange color. A two finger white head forms with good retention. Plenty of lace is left behind.
S: Funky yeast up front that is really nice. Lightly tart fruits. Lemon, orange peal, and zesty spice. Dry biscuit malts as well.
T: Follows the nose, funk and zesty spice up front. Lightly tart fruits. Dry biscuit malts. Lightly soapy hops in the finish as well.
M/D: A medium body that is perfectly crisp, dry, and clean. So easy to drink. The alcohol is not noticeable at all.

An excellent Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Another hit from Freetail. Highly recommended if you ever come across it at the brewpub.

750 mL bottle tried 12 Aug 2010. Courtesy of jefferz5000, thanks! Served in the 0.4 L Steiner Pils snifter.

Medium sized very tight light tan head. Well carbonated. Hazy rosy amber color with a peach blush. Yeast, citrus, alcohol, clove and candi sugar in the aroma. Lots of fizziness and fruitiness to start. Yeasty, tangy, pineapple, melon, grapes. Warming ethanol finish with a fruity and tart aftertaste. Lingering yeastiness. Medium body.

Need to get back to San Antonio...

In a trade awhile back from jefferz5000.
Corked and caged 750 into 6oz wine glass split 3ways.

Darker than golden, closer to orange pour, burnt colors, uneven or feathered in the glass with an offwhite head.

Aroma of roast malt, fruit, burnt tangerine and yeast. There is good deal of booze in the nose and it is more evident in the taste.

Malt forward flavor, but complex and full flavor with the yeast and fruit notes well blanced. I found the carbonation to be mild and the mouthfeel to be lighter than I was expecting for the style. While I felt it was a bit maltier than anything else, there really are very nice fruit flavors and a good bit of booth boozyness and alcohol bite.

I found this to be greater than the sum of the parts. Certainly an enjoyable brew but one that lets you know exactly how stong an ale you're enjoying.

Served from caged and corked 750ml bottle into Chimay chalice

A - clear golden with huge fluffy white head that left beautiful lacing. The quintessential Tripel pour

S - Green apple, honey, malt sweetness, slight alcohol. The aromatics fromt the yeast drift away from phenolic and more to estery which is a refreshing change from a lot of recent Tripels

T - Sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Moderate hop flavor with low hop bitterness provide some balance before the alcohol comes through

M - Medium to full bodied with excellent carbonation.

D - Above average for a Tripel. Best if shared.

A - Pours cloudy copper with a rich off-white head that shows great retention. Lacing is moderate.

S - The aroma is filled with an enticing mixture of floral, sugary, and fruity notes. Green apple, white grape, and a hint of lemon make for a very complex nose. Some alcohol is present as well.

T - A kiss of hop bitterness up front quickly gives way to a sugary/malty sweetness. White grape, sweet apple, and a bit of cherry are met by honey and alcohol to create a flavor profile that is predominantly sweet without being too overbearing.

M - Full-bodied with a thick, creamy finish.

D - Abv is definitely noticeable, and the sweetness gets old after a while. This is a good beer overall, but I think I'm going to pass on the 750 ml bottles in the future and just enjoy the 12 oz. servings on tap.
