having enjoyed dann's beers at notheast brewing co while living in boston, i was excited to pick up some rapscallion on a return trip last weekend.

premier pours a slightly hazy gold/orange with a strong head that never fully dissolves. after having seen reviews boasting flavours of bubble gum, i was half expecting liquid bazooka, but was happier with what i got, which was more of a juicy fruit gum smell/flavour. additional fruit flavours and sweetness were also detected but i couldn't pinpoint anything else specific, save for a bit of a taste of honey.

this was not nearly as sweet as i expected and i thoroughly enjoyed every sip (which i also expected). i just wish my dumb ass would have grabbed the blessing and creation 4 packs while i was in boston.

by the way, i was sipping batch 1624.

Again, not a very impressive Rapscallion brew. The aroma is a bit yeasty with tones of musk and hints of brown bread. The initial flavor is of old strawberries and stewed carrots with a sharp malt sweetness and a sharp bitterness. The musky yeast flavors are what really rule the show here. Just as raw as I found teh Creation to be.

It's rather unique. I'll say that much. Golden amber in color with little head. Leaves a good amount of lace, however. Smells somewhat fruity, with definite honey. Taste is fairly good and mildly sweet. Apples were an obvious flavor (although I could be wrong). Others have mentioned a bubble gum flavor, although I couldn't detect it. This sort of reminds me of a less tart Hennepin's for some reason. According to the beer track code the batch that my bottle came from was not a particularly good one, e.g. the carbonation was not right on. I'd be interested in trying this on tap. I'd try this again, but I'd like to sample the other Rapscallions first.

Medium head and carbonation that goes fairly quickly. Nice golden color, smooth with some sweetness from the malt - imported from France and Germany. Finish is balanced between the malts and hops.

Purchased a four pack with the proper drinking goblet included. I had tried this beer at the brewery after one of their Saturday tours. The head was small and didn't seem to last. The smell is sweat and gentle and is a beautiful cloudy golden color. Well balanced and full of flavor.

Even sweeter on tap than in the bottle, served in the appropriate snifter. Good clarity with a bubbly lace that slowly drops down after each sip.

The aroma was very expressive of bubble gum, cotton candy, juicy fruit and some hop as well as a light wafting alcohol. Malt is there and shows off the sweetness.

Very smooth thought the carbonation was not as crisp as I expected it to be, I am sure this will vary and especially bar to bar. Sweet and malty, nearly a mirror image of the aroma with a cotton candy, juicy fruit and malt flavour. Hops are oily with a laid back bitterness.

I felt a bit extravagant drinking this brew out of the snifter at Bukowksi’s Tavern until I saw nine other blousers quaffing the stuff down. Nice to see good local beer being consumed on tap.

The bottle version is out. 4 pack of bottles packaged with its own glass (big brandy snifter with Rapscallion logo and graphic). No description of the beer and no drink by date on the bottle. But instead there is a brewtrak # where you can go to their website and look up the details about that particular batch - pretty cool to see the brewers notes.

Batch # 1622
Pours with a half inch head that dissapates down to a thin layer that floats on top of the awesome looking, crystal clear, dark golden -almost reddish body. Smell is a little dissapointing - wheatish, apple cider like with almost a lager yeast aroma(phenols?). The magic of the brew is in the delicate yet complex flavors of apple, pear, and pineapple at first, followed by a soft grainy flavor and earthy hops. Hops are not overbearing but has a dry-hopped characteristic. I love the lingering aftertaste of the grainy pale malt on the front and middle of the tounge while the hops dance around the back of the tounge and mouth. Very easy to drink and after each glass, I wanted another. A little pricey compared to other belgian ales like Ommagang, Allagash, or even Unibroue.

First bier I tried at the Summit. Premier was a golden-orange color, clear, with an extremely small head. A tiny bit of lace was left. The aromas were spicy and yeasty, yet quite mild. Relatively smooth on the tongue, but body was perhaps a tad thin. Pleasing flavor: yeasty notes, some peppery spiciness....reminded me of a mellow Tripel. I would like to sample a whole bottle of this to re-affirm my thoughts on this.
