Even sweeter on tap than in the bottle, served in the appropriate snifter. Good clarity with a bubbly lace that slowly drops down after each sip.

The aroma was very expressive of bubble gum, cotton candy, juicy fruit and some hop as well as a light wafting alcohol. Malt is there and shows off the sweetness.

Very smooth thought the carbonation was not as crisp as I expected it to be, I am sure this will vary and especially bar to bar. Sweet and malty, nearly a mirror image of the aroma with a cotton candy, juicy fruit and malt flavour. Hops are oily with a laid back bitterness.

I felt a bit extravagant drinking this brew out of the snifter at Bukowksi’s Tavern until I saw nine other blousers quaffing the stuff down. Nice to see good local beer being consumed on tap.

At Finz, Salem MA

True gold with a short white head. Fair retention and lace. Smells of potpourri, clover honey and a whiff of light grain as it warms up. Tastes like it smells, with floral honey being the main theme. Mouthfeel has a zippy carbonation with a little drying in back. A more than sufficient beer to wash down a burger.

Pours a nice golden color with visible carbonation, two finger head fades fast and leaves light lacing on the glass.
Smells of sweet banana and sugars.
Flavors of sweet light fruits and spice, banana, cloves and lingering white pepper.
Medium / light body, tingling sensation with a lingering refreshing finish.
Very easy drinking considering the ABV.

On tap. Served in a tulip glass.
It pours an amber-hued golden color, with a fluffy, off-white head.
A mild dry grainy smell is upfront. A light blend of sweet candy, fruit cup, with a dose of citrus and resins roam around. A whiff of white rum fades in and out.
This Golden is a bit sweet for the style, yet it’s a pleasing sweetness. Bready, grassy and caramel malts carry hints of citrus and fruit cup, along with some warming alcohol. A faint taste of ripe banana and spices peek through.
The body is a little full for the style and lacks any dryness.
It’s a good beer to pair with a wide variety of cheeses and salamis, or vanilla-based desserts.

Consumed last in a short string of surprisingly bad beers at the normally well-informed Cambridge Common, this saved the evening in terms of beer drinking. Built along the lines of Duvel but a tad thinner and fluffier, there's an adequate supply of nutmeg and bananas and yeastiness, none overpowering the other but instead playing nicely in the tulip. Dry finish; actually quite dry all around yet still presents malty qualities that give it a good sturdy base. Not as rich as the Belgian ales on which it is modeled, but a good beer to have in the neighborhood.

On tap at Sunset Grill. Served in a tulip.

Pours a moderately-hazy light golden color with a good white head and a bit of lacing as it makes its way down the glass. Thin cap nearly throughout. The nose brings forward some light banana, a bit of yeast, and a light grainy presence. Nothing too complex, but everything fits together quite well. The flavor falls along the same lines. The banana was light and carried the rear, while the more forward flavors were a bit of other yeastiness as well as a pervasive presence of grain. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Pretty decent.

Had on 9/18 at Not Your Average Joe's in Watertown
poured in to a pint glass

A: This beer pours a visibly carbonated, translucent deep copper color with a white film of a head. No lacing to speak of.

S: Nose is of honey, coriander, and yeast.

T: Taste starts with strong coriander and pepper flavoring and then moves in to a yeast and biscuity flavor. Lemon zest then moves in with the yeast and holds through the finish.

M: Light to medium body, high carbonation, crisp feel with a sticky finish.

D: Goes down easily, nice kick, not too filling, and a nice representation of style. I could have a few of these any given day.

On tap at the Rattlesnake on Boylston St. Served in a standard pint glass. Dark reddish color with orange and brown highlights. Large white head. Smell was very fruity. Flavor was sugary and had notes of strawberry, cherry and coriander. I did like the taste, but the mouthfeel was another story. This beer was way too sweet and malty. It left a sticky feeling on my palate after every sip. I enjoyed drinking this beer, but I could only drink one at the time then I moved on.

Clear, pale orange with a thin head. Underwhelming.

Smell is fruity, mainly banana.

Following from the smell, taste is of banana bread. Hints of apricot. Taste dissipated with continued drinking.

Feel was bit too watery for my liking.

Easily drinkable. Just saw the ABV -- didn't notice in the bar -- and definitely very drinkable for 7%.

Rapscllion Premier pours a clear copper-amber. It's topped by a fluffy, off-white head. The aroma is sweet and fruity. There are notes of caramel, citrus, juicy fruit, a mild resinous hop character, and hints of graininess.

This beer is sweet overall. Toasty malts upfront move into bready and caramel malts with hints of citrus and fruit. The finish is mildly bitter with a grassy hop flavor. This beer is light bodied with prickly carbonation.

This is a nice easy drinking beer.

While at the Blues & Brews Festival today I stumbled upon this amazing brew. I thought nothing of it at first since many of the beers at the event were ordinary, but once I tasted the rare Premier Ale from Rapscallion I was delightfully surprised. This beer was easily the best beer at the event, and I suggest that any Belgian beer fan try this brew. Again, I would like to commend Rapscallion on this delicious beer! Hopefully it will be available in the North Shore.

On-tap 12/28/08 at Doherty's East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a bright amber color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a decent lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is kind of faint but contains caramelized malts, citrus, some spice and some hops.

T: The taste is gives some spice up front along with sweet flavors of citrus and caramel. There's a good hops presence that provides a nice balance. The malt character provides substance but is light enough to make it drinkable. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly spicy.

M: Smooth and very crisp, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is very clean.

D: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a nice lighter beer with some strength to it that is worth drinking for a long time.

Thanks to mymrnngjckt for this brew.

Pours a light orange hazy golden color with about one finger of creamy ivory head. Head retention is pretty solid, keeps a nice lace and leaves some stick.

Smells fruity, with peaches, apricot, and some citrus in there. Some yeast too which gives it an almost Belgian character. Also a sweet, bready malt note.

Taste is bready with a lightly toasted graininess, also some honey-like sweetness and then lots of fruit. Apricot and peach, some citrus just like the smell, also some apple and who knows what else. It's quite complex, with some yeast and herbal hop bitterness in there for good measure.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, quite creamy and appropriately carbonated. There's a good amount of sweetness but it becomes dry through the finish which makes it very palatable.

Pretty tasty brew and a nice change of pace. Very fruity, complex and interesting and definitely worth a try.

Brewtrak ...1689 ? This is a guess folks due the numerals being blurry / faded . Poured into my Rapscallion snifter aggressively which led to a nice head and a abundance of aromas coming up from the table . Smells of honey bread . There is some lacing on the glass and the head has reduced to nothing . The beer is not bad it is just a bit watery . It tastes good and would like to try it on tap too . Granted this is my first american blonde ale so I have nothing to compare it with for this style . I am not regretting purchasing this Rapscallion product . Just like Creation , it is good .

Have a safe Labor Day weekend ...

Poured out of a brown bottle with an unread Brewtrack number into a Rapscallion snifter. A pretty dark golden color, with slight chill haze and some suspended protein/yeast. Fine bubbles rise to the surface. The head isn't quite what I expected--about one finger--but perhaps I didn't pour it quite strong enough. Lacing lasts throughout, but is slightly watery.

Nose is bready, touch of alcohol with some sweetness. Slight citrus fruit. Taste is similar, sweet slight hop flavor and bittness there. Surpisingly clean tasting, but still complex yeast esters come through. Very interesting, and quite drinkable, hybrid beer.

My beer review snuck up on me a little. I did not really like the beer as much as my review states I did. The beer scored high for me on most categories, although it may not be to my liking. Basically, I can say that this is an interesting fusion beer of two different styles. I, personally, am not blown away by it, but it is a very good beer for its category, or lack of category...

12 fl oz brown bottle; served in a tumbler.

Hazy straw with a light peach in color; noticeable sediment and active carbonation. Frothy, light foam with impressive retention. Delicate patches of condensed lacing.

Belgian-candied sweetness with an earthen mustiness. Peach, pear fruity esters. Diacetyl-laced toasted malts. Mild peppercorn and corriander spices.

Shawrply acidic, fruity tartness: lemon, orange, raspberry, cranberry, green apple. The creamy, Belgian-candied sugar gives a nice smoothness to the tart flavors. Undertones of corriander throughout the sip.

A light, medium in body; light and crisp, but intensely carbonated.

A flavorful pale Belgian-style offering. Don't be confused by the 'Blonde Ale' moniker, this one tastes nothing like it. Quite pleasant.

Poured into an oversized pint glass from the tap at the Brewery Exchange in Lowell, MA. Color is amber and clear. There is little head but decent lacing.

Smells very estery with light floral scents and hints of plums and peach.

Light malt up front is bready. There are medicinal phenols in the middle with other yeast flavors and light alcohol burn in the finish.

Medium-bodied and moderately carbonated. I think this beer has a lot of good flavors going on, but I don't think they combine in a great way. I think the recipe needs some minor tweaking to make it a great beer.

After staying away from the Rapscallion brews for a few years, I decided to try one last night @ Atwood's

Poured into a beautiful Rapscallion oversized snifter, the bar tender actually swirled the first few seconds of the pour really aggressively to develop the head...which is awesome...

A gorgeous orange/honey coloured brew with a dense, creamy, nearly white head. Aromas bursting through of sweet malts, yeasty character, and earthy, almost sour fermentation notes

Taste is wonderful, complex balance of slight malt sweetness, hint of hops, and smooth, yet slightly tart finish. Paper-dry body, and some warmer sugar flavour noticable, like the lightest caramel you could imagine. Delicate is a word that comes to mind.

Fantastic brew....so glad I decided to try this one again!

This is yet another beer that I always see, but never get. Actually, this is the first Rapscallion beer I have tried, but not the first Concord beer I have tried. Anyway, it poured a nice amber color (blonde ale?) with a small head that faded away quickly. Smell was pretty malty, with lots of candied sugar and fruit. A fair amount of spice came through in the aroma as well. Taste was incredibly juicy at first, then faded into a more herbal tea esq kind of presence. Mouthfeel was medium in body. A very drinkable beer we have here. I'm a little confused by their calling it a blonde ale though, in that it tastes much more like a Belgian Strong Pale to me. It reminds me a great deal of Pranqster by North Coast Brewing (another awesome beer). I guess it doesn't matter much what it is labelled as. Just another great beer to try. Cheers
