I have visited this place about 4 times over the last few years for a great German meal in NYC. The restaurant section is behind a large bar that has about 20 stools. There are some tables in the bar area and also a few on the street outside that were all occupied when we arrived. About 10 beers on tap, all German brews like Spaten and Weinhenstephan.

The food is the main reason we come here, as the food is tasty and well done. If you like veal, they do it right. Sausages and potato pancakes are awesome. The service is friendly and knowledgable. Definitely a locals place as the bartender seemed to know several patrons. If you are in the E. 20's area, check this place out for great food with a good beer selection.

This is a nice cozy place that's a little bit out of the way from my normal travels in Manhattan. Has a large bar area in front with a few antique-looking wrought iron stools and a cool wooden bar with a stone beer rail. The place is homey and looks like an old cottage inn.

8 taps that included Enbecker Schwarzbier, Kostritzer Schwarzbier, Reisdorf Kolsch, Frankenheim Alt. Good bottle selection too, including Hacker-Pschorr Dunkel-Weisse, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier, a number of Ayingers, and also some Chimay, McChouffe, Samuel Smiths and others if, for some reason, you don't like German beer.

Good service, and I sampled one of the sausage plates - excellent! It was mellow and quiet on a Saturday afternoon, will definitely have to go back for dinner sometime.

This is one of my favorite places to go to when I want to have a nice meal and good beer. The restaurant is kind of hard to find if you have never been there and are walking down the street. This is due to the fact that it is not well advertised in the window but is noticeable by its awning. Inside there is the bar and the restaurant. Since this is a beer website, lets talk about the beer first. They change their taps a bit everytime I have gone but this last time the two beers I had on tap were the Weihenstephaner Hefe and the Spaten Oktoberfest. It was my first time trying Spaten Oktoberfest and I really enjoyed it. They have around 10 beers on draft and a good selection of bottled beer. They have an especially good selection of wheat beers. The prices are about what you would expect for the city. Now the food, the Silver Swan has excellent food. If you are a big fan of German sausages, they have several plates that would interest you. This past time I went, I went with a few people and we did a bit of sharing to taste what we had gotten. All three dinner plates were great - the venison, the wild boar, and the muscovy duck, all in sizeable portions. The only thing that could be better food-wise is the desserts but if you go just for beer, you will not be disappointed.

Next stop on the tour as we head north was the Silver Swan.
Phil does not (at all) dig German beers although he claims he can deal with a good Alt. Of course I'm going to convert and/or torture him (probably the latter) by making him go to bars with a strong German selection. It's least I can do...
Closer to Loreley than Zum Schneider as regards a front bar with a restaurant to the rear. They've got about 10 taps, all German beers in a nice range of styles (Burgerbran Alt Dunkel, Einbecker Schwarzbier Lager and Bauherren Pils, Weihenstephaner Hefe, Warsteiner Dunkel, Konig Ludwig Hefe, Frankenheim Alt, Reisdorf Kolsch and a pair of Spatens). They also had a nice collection of bottles, mostly German but there were a bunch of the usual Belgian suspects.
Decor was tastefully done with holiday lights throughout the bar area and beyond the separating curtained section where the restaurant is. Service was attentative and prompt, there were big bowls of big sourdough pretzels to snack on, and the place was overall pleasant and comfortable.
