Poured from 22oz bomber into Surly mug.
A: Motor oil black body, looks mildly thin, with a silky khaki colored head. Runs down the glass with little lacing but settles into a nice latte-like cover.
S: Black, strong coffee. Chocolate and loads of sweet vanilla. A little hazelnut, caramel and butterscotch. A little whiskey, but its faint. The smell is awesome.
T: Wow, this is good. The whiskey is there, but only as a compliment, not the predominant taste. The coffee shines front and center, and is complimented with a great balance of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla.
M: Medium body. Could be use a bit more body. Slightly over carbonated, but I'm nit picking. Wet. Creamy.
O: When I think of dessert beer, this is what I want. The whiskey compliments the vanilla and chocolate perfectly. What an awesome surprise. I think I'm going to pick up a couple more bottles before I leave Minneapolis.

Irish Coffee Stout pours a black color with a nice small tan head. Strong coffee aromas are present. Strong coffee flavors come through, but it finishes dry and crisp. Good roasted malty flavors as well. Nice and balanced, very drinkable. Overall a very nice drinkable coffee stout.

Pours dark black with a dark tan 1/2 finger head, which fades quickly, and leaves spotty lacing. The aroma has dark roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, vanilla, lactose, and some whiskey.
Tastes sweet with lactose, cocoa, vanilla, coffee, dark roasted malt, and subtle whiskey. It is nice to have a whiskey barrel aged beer where the whiskey is subtle. There is absolutely no alcohol burn to this beer at all, and I can still taste some whiskey. Well done. there is a light amount of bitterness from the coffee and roasted malt, but the bitterness takes a back seat to the sweetness, which it should in a Milk Stout.
Medium to full bodied with modest carbonation. Smooth, easy to drink, creamy, and silky. This reminds me in many ways of a good Irish Coffee. i would gladly buy this again.

Deep brown black with a thin skin of light brown foam and solid lacing. Coffee, cream and chocolate malt on the nose, also smells quite sugary. It definitely has a distinct Irish coffee scent. Taste isn't as sweet as the nose suggests. Light chocolate and coffee flavors with a bit of sugar, just a hint of whiskey, clearly the flavor does suggest Irish Coffee. Medium body but not smooth enough on the palate. Overall..okay. Definitely not a sugar bomb, a decent attempt at something a little different.

extra from trade with StPaulSuds, thanks bro. this years release in a 22oz bottle poured into a FFF Teku.
a: dark brown pour with a 1 finger tan head, moderate retention and lacing with a rimming around the glass.
s: mainly coffees and malts, not much bourbon at all.
t: coffee is present but a little stale. roasts malts are present. no bourbon on the taste, but barrel character does come in late. no heat on the brew.
m: low carbonation, medium body. not thick like I'm accustomed to with an imperial stout. dry finish.
o: this be talks a big game with the description on the bottle. unfortunately, doesn't really deliver. it is good as a coffee stout, but you don't get much barrel or any bourbon favors. hope is didn't cost too much - would drink it again but not for more than $0.25/oz.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a wine glass
Thanks goes out to my brother who grabbed me this bottle while in Minneapolis.
A: Pours a very deep, espresso brown/black. There is a dark tan head that fades fairly quickly to little more than nothing. Lacing is very light and spotty.
S: A potent aroma. Brewed coffee leaps out of the glass, followed by milk chocolate. There balance between bitter coffee and sweet chocolate is superb. A good smoky oak flavor, vanilla, and the slightest touch of sweet bourbon are also present. As it warms I also notice light touches of black cherry pie and fig.
T: Great coffee flavor right out of the gate; it's like a cold french press. The coffee flavor balances the aromatics and bitterness well. Mocha and vanilla. Some smoke and oak round out the sip and lead to a lingering finish of smokey milk chocolate. Very smooth flavor overall.
M: Medium-thin mouthfeel. Low carbonation but enhances the silky, milk stout feel.
O: The coffee flavor is superb! I wouldn't say it's a better beer overall than Peruvian Morning or KBS, but I think the coffee component might be the best I've tasted (except for last year's BCBCS). Too bad there is next to no bourbon present. A little more bourbon barrel character would have made this one even better. Still a great coffee/milk stout.

Bottle grabbed by the wife from Heritage Liquors at Beer Geek Christmas. Excited to have it! But, ouch, you paid $14 for this? What is it with overpriced bombers? Would LB dare put this in 12 oz bottles and ask $7 per? Where was I? Oh, yes, Irish Coffee Stout review.
Nice dark pour with a frothy head. Smell is booze and coffee. A little faint though.
Taste brings some problems. There's an unpleasant tartness. In fact, for the remainder of the review, I'm going to assume the tartness was either an unlucky bottle or my own ignorant palate, because with the tart, I contemplated handing over my half of the bottle to my wife, in other words, a polite drain pour. Anyway, tartness aside, all is not necessarily forgiven. Whiskey (bourbon?) is promised, coffee is promised, but both are ever so barely present, and come behind common roasty notes. Having read the label, I get it, LB is going for cute and subtle, I don't think they intended to make a brawling, barreled coffee stout, just something reminiscent of whiskey and coffee in beer. OK. But what they ultimately create is a very tame beer that doesn't taste terribly different than most porters.Leaves me wanting more panache. Much more.
Mouthfeel is thick and satisfying.
Well, final verdict. If Lift Bridge is going for a barreled coffee stout, this isn't even in the league of Peruvian Morning. BCBS Coffee? We're not going there. As a subtle twist on a regular stout, it's OK (see tartness disclaimer). But at $14, OK is not OK. I would be willing to give this beer a second try in 2013 (already doing that with Commander), but the high price means it's very unlikely I'll try this beer again.

Thanks to LIQUORBARREL for this bottle. Poured in to snifter.
A - Dark as night with half a finger of medium brown head that reduced to a thin layer.
S - Sweet whiskey, coffee, roast, dark caramel and molasses.
T - Sweet whiskey, toasted oak and molasses flavours up front with dark roasted coffee, roasted malts. A touch of vanilla and chocolate in the background. The barrel flavours don't overpower the base beer and the integration between the two is excellent.
M - Medium to full body. Creamy and thick. Light carbonation.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter.
Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown color with a finger of very nice brown head. The head fades to a ring around the glass.
Smell: Sweet coffee with lots of dark fruit. MIld caramel and chocolate notes with some alcohol heat.
Taste: Lots of coffee, but this one is pretty smooth. Roasty malt with dark fruit and some cocoa notes. The finish is sweet and roasty with a mild burn from the alcohol.
Mouthfeel: On the thicker side of medium with very smooth carbonation and a slightly dry finish.
Overall: This is a very nice coffee stout. I enjoyed the sweetness that accompanied the coffee roast. I'd have another.
