visited Sly Fox for the first time today on 12.11.08 on my way home from a client appointment.
a bit underwhelming when I first walked in. reminds me of a restaurant in the mountains when you go away for a weekend to your cabin. dining room and pub tables are all green top with wooden trim. very basic and ordinary. but, it is not about that, rather the beers. they had a great selection on tap of about 12, plus a great number of their beers in bottles (both to drink on site and to take to go). the staff was very helpful and very informative. behind the bar is glass where you can see the brewing equipment.

I went here a few weeks ago for the first time with two friends.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere was very laid back and friendly. It seemed very rustic and rural. Nice people and good fun.
Quality: Everything was very well presented and tasted excellent. All of the beer was within date.
Service: The waiter was excellent and very good. He certainly wasn't too bright, very nice, but dumb.
Selection: There was a great for both food and beer. I wish their beer menu was more up-to-date because there were somethings on it that I wanted but was out of rotation.
Food: The burger was very good, and the two others' meals look tasty too.
Value: I thought that it was very inexpensive for the quality.

Stopped here this past weekend with a couple of my friends. Tucked away fromt he street and a little hard to find, but worth the trip and experience.
A: The atmosphere was pretty chill. When we were there, it was pretty dead, but we went at about Noon on a Saturday. The set-up is nice; typical brewpub set up with the glass wall so you can see where the magic happens. Seemed like a nice place to meet up with some people, get some food and enjoy some good beer and good times.
Q: The overall quality of the place was good. Well-kept and clean. The beer itself also was pretty fresh and good, which is always a plus.
S. The service was pretty good. It seemed like the waiter we had was new or just learning, but he was pretty helpful and willing to provide us with his opinions about the beers that he had. He came back to check up on us a bunch of times, but was pretty good. The only thing that sucked is that it took a while to get our growlers.
S: the selection of beer that was available was pretty good. About 20 of their local beers on tap, including some seasonals, a ruachbier and schwarzbier, and a pretty good helles bock and lager. They also had some of their beers in bottles (Ichor, Saison) that were either available in regular bottles or cellar aged versions. Those offerings were a bit on the pricier side (averaging $15), but I'm sure it was worth it.
F: The food was pretty good. I had a bacon cheeseburger. The fries were awesome and the burger was pretty moist. The roll seemed a bit hard, but it went down with a few sips of beer. Overall, not too bad.
V: Cannot really complain too much about the price. While the food prices were a bit expensive (my bacon cheeseburger came out to be $10.50), the beer seemed pretty reasonable, averaging about $3.50 per offer.
Definitely a cool place to visit, although I cannot say I will go out of my way to got there next time.

Stopped by here the other day, on my way to an Oktoberfest event.
The brewpub has the appearance of a large size home, that has now been converted into a brewpub. The place has high ceilings, which tends to give it an airy atmosphere. Not a lot of decoration and the furnishing seem a bit stark, but the vibe here is comfortable enough. Naturally, the beers available are all made by Sly Fox, and on this day I think they had around 10 or 12 beers on tap. I believe they also have 6 or 8 of their seasonals and limited release beers in bottle for either take out or consumption on the premises (they have an in house price and a take out price for their beers). Service was quick and efficient, and the bartender was pleasant and friendly. Only had a couple of beers here, but both were fresh and enjoyable.
Another solid place to get good beer in SEPA. What a surprise. :-)

Note: If you are planning your first visit ignore the googlemap directions and your GPS. This place is onRoute 113 next to the Phoenixville National Bank.
The atmosphere in here is good but not overwhelming. Lots of forest green and exposed wood. Plenty of dead foxes too. Everyone from the hostess to the bartender to the waitress had a genuine smile, which I really appreciate. The beer selection was sizable enough with at least a dozen options. Looking over the beers listed for this place on BA it looks like the brewers like to experiment.
We didn't try any of the more interesting items on the menu, settling for a buffalo chicken sandwich and a gyro instead. Both were plenty tasty. We ate in the dining room, but the bar crowd seemed very friendly. We struck up a nice conversation with a couple BAs named Jeannie and Rick while I was getting my growlers filled.
Overall there isn't anything here to complain about and I certainly would love to come back sometime. Growler fills are cheap and they will fill one from any brewer. Gotta love that.

A - Good atmosphere. Small brew-pub with a bar and area for dining. TV's are great for Philly sports and bright kelly green walls. It's in my hometown, so I've known about this place for years.
Q - Great bang for the buck at happy hour with most pints being $2.50.
S - I've never had a bad waitress or bartender at this establishment. When ordering food, I receive it fast and beer even faster. Very polite and even knowledgable. If you get there early enough you can watch the waitresses taste whatever is new which is a good sign even if they're not crazy about the brews.
BEER - Beer is good, my favorite spot for happy hour in my home town. The 113 is great, the blob ale tasty, Phoenix Pale Ale is good, and wheat beers worth the trip. Haven't tasted anything below average.
F - It's pub grub, but the apps are good. Haven't sampled any entrees in Phoenixville, but I will in the near future.

I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this place earlier, as I've been here many times, and never had reason to complain that I can remember.
Let's start with the good stuff: the brew. There is always something good on tap: their usual standbys like Pikeland Pils and, one of my faves, the O'Reilly Stout. They do some great experimenting here, as well. I fell in love with their scotch ale aged in a bourbon barrel here- it was the beer that made me a fan of scotch ales, and probably even bourbon. Never had a bad beer here. They do growlers and will sell you bottles of their good stuff, like the Ichor and Odyssey.
Service has always been good, and the bar staff is knowledgable about their brews and food. The food is excellent pub-style food; though some entrees are offered, I never get past the yummy sandwiches and burgers, which are priced very reasonably. The calimari is also delicious and spicy.
As for atmosphere, you have the room divided up into two areas, the bar area and the restaurant area, which is a nice touch so you don't have to have kids around the bar. There are tables in the bar area, though, and when the place gets crowded, it can be tough to get to the bar. There's plenty of room at the bar, with sports games on TVs to entertain. You can also look through the big windows to see the giant vats in the brewery. All in all, you have a classy pub that's good for hanging with friends or celebrating with family.

A brewpub with great beer and service.
The place has a nicer vibe since they banned smoking. The bar has about 25 stools and a few high tops with brew tanks visible through the glass behind the bar. The dining room does not have much charm to my eye.
Beer is the highlight here. Always 10-12 on tap, almost all of which are worth a try. House beers are quite good, seasonals range from good to outstanding. You never have to settle.
Service is always pleasant and friendly.
Food is pretty good pub fare. I rarely order wings but the jamaican jerk wings here are excellent.

2008 Bock Fest and Goat Races.
Atmosphere: The restaurant, at least the first floor, has dining to the left of the entrance and the bar to the right. The atmosphere is nothing exciting, run of the mill brewpub.
Quality: Service, food and drink were all good. The bathroom wasn't in the best shape but there were lots of people coming in and out.
Service: The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive, bring water, apps, beer and food in a very timely manner.
Selection: Today is Bock Fest, so the beer list is limited (if that is the right word) to German offerings: bocks (helles, doppel and mai), lagers (helles and dunkel), eisbocks, rauchbier and weisse. An awe-inspiring list that was pretty damn good. We ended up getting through the rauchbier, both eisbocks and the helles bock.
Food: Food is run of the mill pub grub. The pretzels were quite good and I enjoyed the pretzel melt sandwich. They have a kids menu as well, which is a plus.

Came here with family to the first location..
Really cozy place, split between a bar and a restaurant area, also an upstairs. Cool fox taxidermy along the tops of the wall, lots of wood mixing into the decoration as well. We opt for the bar, which has plenty of TVs and a small 350 gallon system in the back.
Our waiter was nice and very attentive, my father and I opted for two samplers (five beers each) for ten of the eleven beers available on tap and the waiter said he would throw in the eleventh beer sample for us as a bonus, nice of him to do.
Beer was very good, all ranges of styles available. The sampler had Phoenix Pale, Dunkel Lager, Helles Lager, Pils, O'Reilly Stout, Belgian Golden, Weiss, Porter, Raspberry Reserve, 113 IPA, and the Seamus Irish Red. Mother and grandmother opted for wine. Samples were good, after tasting we opted for some favorites, I had the Phoenix and the Pils and my dad chose Seamus all pints were very much enjoyed.
We did order lunch as well, I had a Pulled Pork sandwich, which was awesome. Fries are different and good, rest of the family had burgers and they all agreed the food was good. I sampled the burger and it was indeed tasty.
Really nice place, manager came over and spoke to us, many others were around enjoying the beer and taking home growlers. We opted to try the Odyssey IPA and take it home in bottles, I am looking forward to that. They also seem to have many theme days, including Poker Nights, Phillies nights (or insert Philly team for the season) and other stuff.
Overall, this brewpub is fantastic, I could not have enjoyed it more and it deserves all the praise it's been getting. Give it a shot.
