Bought a bomber from Sly Fox Phoenixville.
Poured into chalice at home.
Poured a dark brown with an almost eggplant hue to it. A thin white head disappears before you can say ROYERSFORD PENNSYLVANIA. Lacing was good for the style.
Smells dark, rich and fruity. Some candisugar and dark fruits as well as grapes and bananas.
Big malt upfront and a blast of carbonation hits the tongue. A spicey front leads to the sweetness which builds toward the finish which was very nice. The booziness you'd expect from a double digit abv is not there as it hides behind a sweet fruit finish that lingers quite long yet cleanly.
Great quad and yet another fine brew from Brian O'Riley and the Sly Fox gang. Sweeter than most I have had in the style which was interesting and will bring me back to this big bodies sipper once again.
RESPECT

Pulled the cork and no "pffft" Uh-oh. Hey weren't these just bottled? Gave it a vigorous pour in my Duvel glass and only a tiny ring appeared around the glass. Smells good like a quad should. I'm still hung up on no head though...Tastes good but without the creamy carbonation you would expect from a 10% quad. What gives? Mouthfeel is flat with no carbonation to bring the taste to the top of my palate. It just drains down my throat. I don't know what happened with this one, just released Friday. I hope the bottling didn't go wrong. Maybe the corks are bad?
I have another one, so I can revisit this one after some more 'bottle conditioning' and review it again.

Really didn't like this in the least. So little carbonation I thought it was a bad cork, until I read some other reviews. Looked great in terms of color, but no nose to speak of. Weyerbacher's Quad is superior across the board to my mind, including price in my neck of the woods. Thinking back on the Odyssey, perhaps the brewery's philosophy is different than mine.

A - Pours a lovely deep almost violet color. The head dissipated rather quickly.
Ar - Very full aroma of dark fruits, I get raisins.
T - Good balance of malt, not too sweet. Alcohol well masked. Finish is plum and dry.
O - Nice beer to slowly sip. Opens up more as you let it warm up.

Out of 750ml Corked bottle,
A- Pours Murky dark chocolate brown, Zero Carbonation leading to no head.
S-Hint of spicy alcohol, chocolate and apple maybe?
T-rich malts, and the high alcohol content is well hidden, doesnt really make me think of a Quad, but pretty good.
M-smooth, but the lack of carbonation really hurts the score.
D- Not a session beer because of the 10% abv but not that hard to drink.
Quads are my favorite, from my experience this isnt a good representation of the Style. The carbonation factor really killed the score for me. It does taste good, and the smell is definitely the best quality of this beer.
