Poured from a can into a pint glass.
Pours a clear golden, white head doesn't last long but leaves a nice ring of lacing.
Smells of sweet, fresh clementines, slight hop bitterness, and a bit perfumey.
Hops dominate the flavor much more than the aroma with earthy and herbal characteristics. There's a slight touch of citrus as well, and a very subtle grain undertone that gives a nice balance. Slight sourness in the finish is a bit unpleasant, but it's negligible.
Light bodied but very smooth and extremely refreshing. Very sessionable.
Overall: Not my favorite pale ale, but still pretty good.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a mug. Pours a slightly hazy off-amber color, with a 1/2" white fluffy head that reduces leaving moderate lacing.
Smell is mildly malty, with bits of toffee and hints of fleshy fruit. Has a soft malty taste, with a simple hop flavor and plenty of grass and floral flavors. Ends with a simple bitter bite. Had a medium mouthfeel, leaving a bit of tang on the tongue. A decent pale ale, but frankly not one of Sly Fox's best.

330ml can. ½ Pint glass. Enjoyed on jun´12. Gold in color, chill haze. Resiny & subtle candy aroma. Caramel malts, slightly ripe fruit & grapefruit flavors rounded by involving bitterness. Smooth & malty palate. Medium body, medium carbonation. Oily texture. Dense butter-like & earthy bitter finish. Moderate IBU profile –just 40- balances malts so beer won´t become fat neither flat. Refreshing & easy drinkable.

Can: Poured a light copper color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of light citrus and bitter hops with light caramelized malt base. Taste is a drinkable mix of medium citrus and bitter hops with a balanced caramelized malt backbone. Body is about average with good carbonation. Good and easily drinkable though a further hop punch would have been even more enjoyable.

A: The beer is clear light copper amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin beige head that has good retention properties and never completely faded away.
S: There are light aromas of citrus and pine resin hops in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has light flavors of citrus and pine resin intermixed with notes of biscuit malts. A light amount of bitterness is also present, which lingers through the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink and quite sessionable. It seems to be a bit more flavorful compared to other beers in the style.

A: Pours a crystal clear amber/copper in color with some extremely light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall light beige head that reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Significant lacing is observed.
S: This beer has a moderate strength aroma with some light hints of caramel malts and quite a bit of pine and citrus hops.
T: The beer starts out with a bit of caramel malt sweetness but then the hop flavors become apparent. There are flavors of pine and citrus hops and a mild amount of lingering hop bitterness.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.
O: This is a pretty enjoyable beer and one that I could easily have a few during a session. I find the combination of the pine and citrus hops with the mild amounts of bitterness quite refreshing.

Received from Dino in our most recent trade! Poured from can to pint glass the beer arrives a murky ruby mahogany with a nice 2 finger white head, nice retention though not a lot of lacing. A nice crisp fruity nose with citrus, pear, apples and dark fruit character. Unique and nice. Mild caramel malt hint. The flavor is very much the same. The hops provide a nice fruity character as found in the nose with again a nice base caramel. Finishes crisp with a lingering mild bitter fruity sweetness. Lighter end of medium bodied. Overall, this is really enjoyable. Would gladly reach for another if I could!

A thanks to woodychandler for the trade! Poured into my Duvel tulip.
A - Pours a deep, clear copper/amber hue with a one finger creamy white head that faded quickly to leave a thin, white halo.
A - Aroma is well, average. Getting mostly sweet, carmel malts. There are some old hop bitterness on the end. Not the fresh hops I was looking for.
T - Again, like the nose this just isnt all that fresh tasting. Losts of sweet carmel malts, which is nice, but I like those piney, citrus hops in my APAs and this just doesnt deliver. Maybe it did at one point.
M - Mouthfeel isnt bad, a bit on the sweeter side but its not heavy or syrupy.
O - Overall, I find that this is just an average brew. It might have been nice fresh, but at this point it just doesnt do anything for me. Would give Sly Fox another chance though.

12 oz can, with code of "310 6/18/13" which I assume is a best buy date.
appears a very clear amber copper color, 1/4" off-white head. decent retention. the aroma is mostly cereal grains, mild earthy hops. the taste is a good balance of slightly sweet malt and very mild herbal hops. medium body, higher carbonation, appropriate for the style.
overall - easy drinking, but even for a pale ale, could have more hops for an American Style.

A straight up APA. Love the fact that it came out of a mixed "Cantastic" 12 pack from Sly Fox (on sale for $10 bucks, no less).
Great beach and pool beer, not only because it's a very decent brew; but the cans make it socially acceptable. Pours a nice amber color with minimal head. Good mix of sweetness and bitter on the nose and palate. I find it a tad too sweet, but completely satisfactory. The best of the three offerings in the 12 pack IMO.

Got this in the Refreshing Summer BIF. Thanks man.
Poured into a shaker pint. Very nice clear amber color. The head however is not so great. Neither is the lacing. It was poured hard to get a decent white head but it dissapated to a film. Very little lacing.
Aroma isn't much as well. I like to smell a bit of hops in my pale. It's pretty much just has a bit of caramel malt aroma.
Taste is solid. Nice pale malt taste. But of caramel malt for the color and flavor. Nice slight hop flavor and a nice refreshing hop bite.
Mouthfeel is smooth and refreshing. Good lawn mower beer.
Overall a solid pale. But it could use work on appearance and aroma.

brewed lower than what the profile says at 5.1%. got this in a trade from Exiled.
A- pale yellow to amber, typical APA coloring and head.
S- pine, citrus, and mellow hop bitterness. the nose is tangy enough to keep you interested but mellow enough where you know this will be a session beer.
T- one of the best tasting examples of an APA i've had! this is exactly what i'm looking for in an APA (which i feel should always be a session brew). Mild hop bitterness, same citrus and pine notes from the nose with a refreshing polish.
M- perfect level of carbonation and thickness for the style and flavors.
O- this is a great session beer. one that can be enjoyed on a hot summer day, at a bbq, and with a hearty meal. with such a low abv, this beer could easily be drank all day long.

From the can poured into a glass this beer shows off a clear amber color. During the pour about a half inch of white foamy head was produced fading to a surface smudge inside a foamy ring. Good lacing through out.
I can smell some fruity hops and a mild malt backbone.
Taste is of mildly toasted malts with just some hop bitterness. Hop flavor itself is very light grassy and citrus.
Mildly dry and bitter aftertaste, balanced flavor but weaker flavor. Leans to be a bit watery.
An average dependable good quality chugger.
Perfect for throwing some shoes during the 4th

A: Poured amber/brown in color from a 12oz. can into a pint glass. A nice 2-finger head with some froth that persisted. Some lacing, but nothing to write home about.
S: Smells like a lager: notes of caramel malt and sweet corn are present on the nose.
T: Thin flavor profile with caramel malts being the dominating flavor with earthy notes, leather and moss appearing in the background. The aftertaste is fairly bright with some maltiness drawing you back in, but overall the flavor is not what one would expect from a pale ale: virtually zero hop character.
M: The mouthfeel is average at best. In the mouth it lack substance, and the swallow leaves you with a dank feeling in your mouth, like a basement. On a positive note, the feeling that is there in the mouth is bright and clean, but it's nothing powerful.
D: The drinkability is high in this, as it has a fairly middle-of-the-road character, but enough flavor to entice you back for more. It's mostly bright and inviting, and not too sweet.

Appearance: Pours a medium to dark golden hue with substantial fizzy head and active carbonation.
Smell: Light hoppy aroma- citric in nature.
Taste: A bready malt flavor steps in initially along with the hops, which are pleasant and not overly bitter- pretty good balance. A slight soapy taste presents toward the back end of the tasting. Aftertaste is a bit dry.
Mouthfeel: Extremely smooth. Medium in body.
Drinkability: Excellent IMO. This is a good brew for those casual drinkers looking to gently break into hoppier pale offerings.
Overall- A well crafted pale.

Chilled can into a glass. Courtesy of KristinCooks. Thanks, Kristin!
A: Pours a clear, rich amber with inviting honey tones when held to the light. The head is frothy and long-lived, forming a thick 2" cap that collapses in sections and leaves lace down the sides.
S: A balanced note of bready malt with citrus rind and grass. The bitterness is noticeable on the nose, but it doesn't come off as too strong or dominant.
T: Flavorful and lively. I may have served this too warm, as the delicate hop flavors are suppressed in favor of bread and grassy bitterness. A small caramel sweetness is found. As I mentioned in the nose, it is not assertively bitter, but you do taste it.
M: Light-medium bodied, with smooth, moderate carbonation. I like my APAs more firm, with crisper bubbles, but this is nothing to complain about.
D: Light and easy drinking. A solid example of the style. I found myself thinking that I prefer a few others (particularly Alpine Hoppy Birthday) to this one, but it's a refreshing, easy drinker.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Glass of cold water on the side to sip from periodically.
Appearance: As poured the beer is clear, bright, light copper color with a 1" ivory head that recedes to a layer and a ring of foam, leaving behind some rings, patches and speckles of lacing. For much of the beer there is a layer of foam and sipping leaves a varied pattern of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.
Smell: The aroma smooth and filled with bready/bisquity malt and grassy hops tinged with citrus.
Taste: The clean crisp balanced flavors include a nice malt backbone that supports but does not conceal the citric and grassy hops. There is also some citrus zest here.
Mouthfeel: The mouth feel is medium bodied and has a pleasant prickly character from the persistent carbonation. The finish is medium to long and begins with a touch of sweetness that soon turns to a dryness that lasts to the end.
Drinkability: I've enjoyed sipping this one and each sip follows naturally. I'm pretty sure I'll be having this one again as it would make a good standby for a lot of purposes. That being said, there are some other APAs I'd choose over it. But in the long run there's no question about trying it again. That will happen.

Copper-orange in color with excellent clarity. Not much head after the pour, but a nice thin cap was left behind. Light citrus orange hop aroma along with a hint of biscuit. Carbonation slowly awakens and finishes with a buttery smoothness. Well balanced citrus hop and malty bread flavors that finish with a piney hop character and a bit of a pine aftertaste. Nice balance and easy to drink.

Pours a light copper color with plume of fizzy white head that disipates quickly leaving little lacing. Scent is of fresh cut grass with hints of dried hay. Taste is a muddled mess of the fresh and dried grass with only a faint kiss of white bread, pine and lemon. Lighter side of medium bodied, overly carbonated. Not what im looking for in a Pale Ale.

A nice off white two finger head relaxes to a lasting thick cap atop a beautifully clear amber gold beer.
Nice pale malt breadiness and neutral sweet in the aroma, some floral hops, hints of citrus and pine. Very laid back bouquet, but nice.
Very well blended flavor, nicely understated, balanced and simple mix of bready malt, light neutral sweet, floral hop, and a very light, dry finish of citrus pith and herbal/pine bitter. As it warms a bit of lemon sneaks in. This flavor profile works well.
Mouthfeel is above average for style, perhaps a bit less viscous than the new American norm, a bit less full bodied than many, but it provides an excellent stage for a simple beer with a decent finish.
Due to the nice taste and easy on the palate mouth this is quite drinkable
Impression: I will certainly try this again. Suggest you do the same.

Phoenix Pale Ale pours a very clear, reddish brown body. The off-white head is about a finger thick. It settles to a crown of foam that leaves some pretty solid lacing.
A lot of pine resin and citrus hops with biscuity, slightly toasted malt.
Phoenix Pale ale is pretty balanced. The malt bill is pretty crisp, with biscuit flavors, a light toasted flavor and a little bit of grain. The hops are mostly resinous pine with citrus and grapefruit a close second.
The mouthfeel is slightly oily with moderate carbonation and body.
Phoenix Pale Ale is a solid beer that is well-balanced and pretty drinkable.

3.5 A: Pours a clear orange amber color. Only one finger of creamy head with less than average retention and touches of lacing.

4.0 T: Again pretty clean with a touch of breadiness and graininess. Soft, but noticeable hop bitterness. Herbal hops with grapefruit and pine. Good.
4.0 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate amount of carbonation, but could maybe use a bit more. Slight creaminess and very smooth.

Poured into a pint glass.
Pours a light amber copper color. Has an off white head that is sticky, and fades to a slight lace island that leaves some sticky lacing.
Brew smells malty; caramel, bready and a has a somewhat sweet nose. Flowery hops and a bisquit malt scent. Very nice balance and tasty smell. Surprising that I am not smelling any citrus.
Brew is full bodied; has a nice balance of carbonation and smoothness. Feels crisp and then finishes smooth. Has a malty flavor and is balanced by a floral hop. Slightly bitter in the finish. Finishes dry and has a nice hop kick back.
This is a nice pale ale, was surprised by the hops presence and the full body mouthfeel. It is a good APA, but I want a little more citrus in this brew. When I poured it and it was darker, I was expecting the citrus nos eand flavor. I was almost thinking, wow this reminds me of Sierra Nevada. Not that I am disappointed, just was expecting. A good brew none the less, that I could session all night.
