Half finger head on a clear golden body and decent lacing. Aroma and flavor are similar with grains, pale malts and saaz hop bitterness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. This is a very flavorful pilsner with the hop bitterness you want with a solid malt backbone to keep it from being too light.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a crystal clear dark yellow/golden, thin white head forms, quickly drops to a thin ring around the glass, few lace spots stick, looks alright. Smell is nice, a bit too sweet and sugary which seems to be a theme with Sly Fox beers, some honey, sweet bubblegum, some grassy hops, light graininess, lightly spicy, not bad. Taste is very grassy, a bit sweet and sugar, honey, some toast and biscuit, candies, some spicy hops, light floral, decent bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, not bad but again a touch on the sweet side for the style. Still this is a pretty drinkable beer, would be nice in the summer.

Charles Bridge Pilsner offers a sparkling deep-golden body beneath a frothy head of bright white. Aromas of floral, grassy and spicy hops greet you in the nose, backed by grainy malt. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. The flavor delivers the promised hops atop a firm, straw-like maltiness. It's backed by a solid bitterness, and it finishes dry and hoppy. It lingers with just a drip of maltiness amidst drying bitterness and swirling notes of grass and spice. A solid, balanced brew that proves that golden lagers can still be quite flavorful. Worth seeking out.

I had a 12 ounce glass of this next to a taster of the Pikeland Pils for a comparison.
Appears a transparent, light gold with large CO2 bubbles quickly rising to the top of the white head of fluff. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of light grain & dough, lemony citrus, and a touch of herbal hoppiness.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with more of a lemon & honey flavor coming through and melding into a mellow flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, clean, and mildly bitter on the palate.
When you compare any pilsner next to one of the best ones around (Pikeland Pils), you're really raising the bar as far as expectations. While the Charles Bridge is a decent pilsner, it lacks the crispness, & bitter depth that pops in your mouth with hops ala the Pikeland

Crystal clear gold with a thick white cap and a constant stream of bubbles rising to the top. Good head retention, lots of thick lace. The aroma was nearly all hops, floral and spicy with a little bit of sulfur, but there was a bit of crackery malt. Moderate bitterness, very spicy hops, with more of the same crackery malt character. Crisp with moderate carbonation and a light body, off-dry. A solid pils, very drinkable.

Appearance - San Francisco 49ers metallic gold with wispy head.

Smell - Syrupy malt and muted nuts like cashew and cashew oil. Some hop presense

Taste - Richness from malt with nice hop finish. Saaz provides some spice, musk, tanginess and bite in finish. Nuttiness emerges slightly in middle and toward the end.

Mouthfeel - Richness due to malt is present but is aggressively dissipated by the hops over a few seconds time. Nice.

Drinkability - Perfectly drinkable. The hop bite requires yet another sip to put out the flame.

On tap at Sly Fox Phoenixville on 1/23/09.

A - Clear pale golden body with modest carbonation and slim white head that receded to a thin ring of retention and left minimal lacing.

S - Very citrusy aroma with lemon notes and a touch of subtle noble hops that impart a grassy and herbal character. There is also an underlying syrupy honey sweetness.

T - Charles Bridge is a citrus-forward pilsner with an herbal flair and some classic grassy hop bitterness. While the lemon flavor dominates, there is also quite a bit of sweet buttered biscuity malt to counter the fruity character of this pils.

M - Light to medium bodied with an oily texture and pretty soft carbonation for a pils. Crisp, dry finish with moderate bitterness on the palate.

D - Fine pilsner, though I prefer the Pikeland Pils over this offering. Still, it goes down easy and makes for a good session beer.
