A: Saturday afternoon as we were walking the beer beat in Ballard we decided to stop in a for a brief moment. Nice, warm and inviting. A long wooden bar greets you as you walk in. The dimmed setting and decor adds to this. Taxidermy everywhere. Unique indeed. I mentioned it sordove reminded me of Saraveza in Portland.
Q: No crap on tap here
S: We walked in and we were greeted by two servers who very pleasant. I was toting around a 4pk of Hilliards cans so the server started talking to me about Hilliards and kindly provided me a bag. No issues here.
S: About ten handles, nothing fancy; Big Al, Schooner E, Ninkasi and other PNW goods to choose from.
F: Did not try any food on our brief visit but maybe next time. The menu was rather ecclectic and appealing

King's Hardware is an establishment I've been to a few times. This is not the place to go to in North Seattle for the best beers - for that there are several other places within a few miles that top this. It is one of the best places to grab a burger and a beer.
There are 14 taps available - 2 or 3 of these are going to be your standard macros. The remaining are going to be solid beers but nothing too exciting - Lagunitas IPA, Manny's Pale Ale Black Butte Porter and such. Don't come here if you are looking to discover something out of the ordinary beer-wise. This is a full bar if you are not in a beer mood.
Despite my ambivalence about the beer, I heartily recommend King's Hardware for anybody who enjoys burgers. Their current menu lists 14 different burgers including the "After School Special" (peanut butter and bacon) and the "Cowboy" (fried egg and bacon). They proudly advertise that you can't beat their meat and I believe it. They can substitute a turkey burger or veggie burger for those that desire it. They also serve sliders and other pub fare - wings, nachos and such.
The interior of the bar looks like it has been here forever even though the bar is but a few years old. There is plenty of seating at the bar as well as a number of tables. They have a good juke box, a vintage Donkey Kong game and skee-ball - the only bar I'm aware of in Seattle with this. There is a spacious patio in the back which is in high demand during warm summer days.
Service has been pretty good but it can get slower when it gets busy. Nothing that I would complain about.
This is a busy bar on a busy strip, it can get very crowded on the weekends. I personally enjoy earlier in the evening or at lunch when I can hear the people I'm with.
All told, I would recommend this place as the place to get your food during your pub crawl. You will have a good beer and one of the better burgers in town.

A recent visit found the 14 taps to have a good selection, I had 2 Firestone Walker DBAs, and a small but nice selection of bottles and cans (including Oskar Blues). A busy bar on street of busy bars Kings hardware is a fun place to hang out. The highlight for for me is 2 Skee-ball machines, perhaps the best bar game ever! There is also Big Buck Hunter in case you want to shoot some stuff.
A pleasant outdoor deck is partially covered and has heaters for dealing with Seattles usually Gray, damp weather. Although I didn't try any the food looked good, even if typical bar food. If you're going to the Tractor, Sunset or Conor Byrne for a show Swing by Kings Hardware beforehand, you'll have fun.
