Bottle consumed at Gainesbar in Kortrijk. Served in a La Trappe glass. On to the beer:
A short cream head is formed top this very pale yellow beer which looks like its color has been washed out. Forget looks, it's about flavor. The aroma brings a good omen, as wonderful orange cream, lemon, and coriander notes tickle the nose. Can it tickle the palate as well?
It does. The flavor is soft and very pleasant. A lemon/orange note provides a stable flavor throughout the beer. A kiss of gum and pleasing spice notes add extra layers to the beer. It sounds simple, but together makes an overall taste that I like. It's soft in mouthfeel, light, and somewhat crisp.
Good wit, and also a great thirst buster. These Dutch monks got it right with this offering.

Orange color, slightly hazy at the beginning and milky at last pours. Thin head.
Predominant tropical fruits aroma and yeast, notes of wheat and cloves.
Incredibly refreshing with a spicy feeling. Citric flavor of non-sweet oranges, mild on condiments and with hints of yeast. Clean aftertaste, a bit fruity.
A touch lighter than its counterparties in terms of complexity or flavor strength, still very quaffable.

On tap at 38 Degrees in Alhambra, CA.
Pours a hazy yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Thick rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, spices, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

5.00% ABV. Served on-draught in a bar in Belgium. Reviewed from notes taken in June 2011. Cost was 3.50 euro for a 30cl pour. Expectations were high given the brewery.
A: Pours a 2.5 finger head of fair cream and thickness, and really good retention. Colour is a pale lemon. Semitransparent and cloudy.
Sm: Lemon zest and musty barley. A mild strength aroma.
T: Lemon and even lime citrus esters are brilliant, accompanied by a fine background light cream tone. The foundation is full-bodied, with well layered pale malts and barley filling it out. Very refreshing and fanciful. Well built and balanced. Its biggest weakness is its simplicity.
Mf: Coarse enough to bring out the flavours, but smooth enough to refresh. Wet. Complements the flavours generally well.
Dr: Unfortunately, it's ever so slightly watery, and a bit too simple. The price is fair. It's refreshing and drinkable on a hot summer day, and I like it, but it's just not exceptional.

Pours straw with a towering head.
Nose shows light doughy wheat, soft citrus fruit and some spicy phenols. Pretty appetising.
Light flavours; wheat, very faint citrus. Refreshing but a little plain.
High carbonation and light body suits the beer well.

On-tap at Beer Authority, New York, NY
A: The beer is light pale yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a bright white head that died down and left some patches of bubbles on the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of wheat and orange peel in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and has lots of balanced flavors of wheat and orange peels.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found this to be an enjoyable witbier. It seems a little heavier bodied compared to other beers in the style (but still light in nature) and has a nice amount of orange peel flavors.

On tap at Taproom 307. It was served in a petite Duvel tulip.
La Trappe Witte pours on opaque straw yellow. Two fingers of frothy white foam crown the beer and hang around for a minute or two before fading relatively cleanly. The nose has aromas of sweet orange.peel, wheat, and freshly cracked black pepper, in that order. The flavor profile is easily too grainy. Lots of wheat, and not much of anything else flavor wise. There's a little bit of a citrusy orange character, and next to no spicy phenols to speak of. The carbonation is plenty lively, but the body is just too chewy for my taste. La Trappe's witbier is an alright brew, but it's clearly not in the same class as the better versions of the style.
