Poured a fantastic deep copper with wonderful head and very nice lacing. Great deep malt scent, with a nice sweet tang in the nose. Excellent flavor with deep malts, excellent sweetness and caramel tones from the crystal malts, with enough hops to balance it. Goes down wonderfully well. Great beer!

poured a hazy reddish amber at the brewpub to a pint glass with a very thin off white head that lasted just a minute or so. not much of a nose to this one, but it drinks very smooth. a nice creamy amber.
nothing special I suppose, but good and cold.

had on tap at eagle pointe.
great looking dark brown, barely see through. tan head barely there but laces nicely.
vanilla and caramel malt are the dominant aromas.
good flavor here. very balanced between the initial malt malt flavor and the slight bitterness. very nutty, almost burnt nuts in the aftertaste.
creamy and good, even carbonation.
a very creamy delicious beer. a smooth and refreshing brown that doesn't try to do too much.

Had this on tap in Lennie's (just nextdoor to the brewery). Very dark cloudy ruby color. Not exactly what I think of when I think of an Amber, but no worries.
Healthy nose of malts, with a touch of caramel. Taste is more of the same. Smooth caramel and malty. Very drinkable and enjoyable. I can't speak for the bad experiences at the guest establishments, but I have had it on two seperarate occasions (about 15 months apart) at the brewpub itself, and it has been great both times.

Being a student at Indiana University in Bloomington, I like to sample the local beers.
I've tried many of the Bloomington Brewing Co.'s beers before and loved them...but the Ruby is not one of those.
I ordered this at Scotty's a local restaurant (from the tap). It had a very nice appearance, though not exactly in the Amber Ale color category, still a very nice looking beer with a dark reddish-purplish color.
And then I tasted it. Absolutely awful. Any flavor of malt or hops was completely over-ridden by an all-pervasive vinegar flavor. The waitress looked at me funny as my face shrunk in repulsion from the first drink, and I was so in disbelief that a beer could taste this strange that I asked her if someone had accidentally given me a glass of malt vinegar.
Of course, maybe this was just a bad batch and the Ruby Bloom is usually a great beer...but I would be VERY reluctant to drop almost $5 at Lennie's (where the BBC is located) or any other Bloomington restaurant to try it again. I'll stick with the BBC's Belgian instead.

Sampled on-tap at the Jungle Room, an off-shoot of Uncle Fester's in Bloomington Indiana.
This came in a plastic Miller Lite pitcher (ugh) and I was at once shocked by its dark brown apperance. Had to hold this up to the sun streaming into the room just to detect any hints of amber. That's a mistake - the style dictates the apperance and they screwed that up.
The nose is all ketchup. What a strange smell to be overwhelmed with, but all of the people in my tasting party completely agreed. Major disappointment.
Thankfully none of that vinegary Heinz 57 characteristic applied to the taste. A strongly malty ale with only the slightest hop characteristic. A nice lace was left on the glass. The mouthfeel was fairly metallic but the blending of dark roastiness and heady malts kept everything in check. I was ready to be done with this by the end of the pitcher.

Pours a deep ruby amber color like a heavily tarnished penny. Some active effervescence with a minimal (though reasonably clingy) head. Smell is quite weak, with some detectable caramely sweetness. Nose is smooth, as is the mouthfeel. Lightly roasted, caramely malts make for an agreeable flavor. A hint of hops plays off this sweetness quite nicely and crisps up the mouthfeel just a bit. Great drinkability is this beer's best quality.

This brew poured a nice amber colored body with a small light brown head of fine to medium sized bubbles. IT has a mild malt aroma and a smooth slight caramel flavor with a tingling mouth feel in the aftertaste. The glass retained a nice lacing as it was tilted.

This beer when poured had medium sized head that contained fine-small sized bubbles. The hue of this beer was amber. The nose was malty and there was good lacing on the sides of my glass with this beer. This beer had a smooth taste to it in my opinion.
