A: Pours a slightly hazy honey-gold with two fingers of beige head that fades into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Belgian spices up front with a lot of bubblegum and candy sugar following. Light fruit notes and sweet breads bring up the finish.

T: Belgian spices here as well with some candy sugar and sweet fruits. The finish has a chalky yeast character that is slightly bitter and a light alcohol presence. The yeasty flavors leave a not-pleasant bitterness (this was the first pour from a bomber that had been standing upright for weeks and was carefully decanted)

M: Medium-light body with medium carbonation, I could use either a lighter body and/or a bit more carbonation.

O: An alright saison overall, though nothing special. I tend to prefer the less sweet and more funky saisons, but this one is more of the American style. The yeast flavors in it are a little unpleasant and it's a bit too thick and sweet for me.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a St. Bernardus goblet. Bottled in May 2012.

A: Two whites of fluffy, tight lace with great retention. Some effervescence in a translucent, hazy golden ale.

S: Sweet fruit and Belgian yeast. Golden raisins, spicy grain, floral esters.

T/M: Decent saison, but not exceptional. A zesty, spritzy mouthfeel ameliorates a flaccid maintaste full of nutty banana bread and flowery yeasts. A tad sharp and peppery, but only for a moment, before a round, sweet fruitiness takes over and leads you out. The aftertaste is lightly bitter, but not in an entirely pleasant way (it's like chewing on a root).

O: I love Pretty Things beers, so maybe my expectations were a little high. This was a good beer, but I've had better from the brewery and from the style. The best part is the malt beer -- the introduction of oats is interesting, but smooths things out a little much for my liking. The rye is better suited to the beer, but could have been more prominent.
