Pours a jet black color, even opaque when held to the light. Not much carbonation and a thin, tan head dissipates almost immediately.
Smell has a nice balance of roasted dark malts and very slight hoppiness. Also, some nice dark fruit smells, some prune smells, give it a a bit of a sweetness.
Taste has a strong taste of dark roasted malts. Very burnt taste with a bit of hops as well.
Mouthfeel is very nice. A good thickness, pulls off being smooth while having a good porter chewiness also.
Drinkability is very nice for a porter. Good tastes and nice balance. A very good local beer in Cleveland and surprisingly a good porter to drink in any weather.

Poured into a Founders snifter on 4/17/13

Pours a thin, dull oil brown. The one finger head lasted but a few moments before leaving only an island skim. No lace.

The aroma is tangy and roasty with coffee, dark grains and hints hints of dark berries. Delicate chocolate sweetness rests underneath.

The taste is just as roasty but not nearly as tangy. Chocolate is pronounced with a moderate sweetness that is balanced by roasty dryness.

The feel is pretty smooth and reasonably robust. Moderately high carbonation, but nothing outlandish. The finish is a tad rough.

Overall, this is pretty decent. It's a little rough around the edges but easily drinkable.

Received as an extra from miketd. Poured into a dogfish head chalice.

A - Poured a nice dark brown hue with a half finger khaki head that faded to leave light lacing and thin wisps.

S - Aromas of roasted almost burnt malts. Not getting much else. Very straight forward.

T - Taste is rather average as well. More of the roasted malts with a slight hop presense as well. Again fairly straightforward for a porter with light vanilla. Its just....average.

M - Mouthfeel is nice and creamy with a very light bitter mostly roasted finish.

O - Overall this beer was a very straightforward porter. Cut and dry, no frills, then again nothing to write home about.
