Agree with Runaway Jim's good comments about this place. Though it's right at Providence College, it's not overrun with the college crowd and is a pleasant place to have some quality beers and food at a good price. A nice addition on my last visit was the "Triple Krameleit" (sic). What they lack in spelling skills, they make up in other areas.
Being only blocks from my house, this place is everything the Abbey is not and vice versa. Definitely worth a stop, especially after a Nikki's tasting. They open at 5 most days, Sundays at noon.

After seeing it listed on BA, I stopped into Cafe 412 while back in RI on business.
The interior is small but very comfortable. The exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling give it a very authentic feel. There's also a great wine rack / tap display made from iron rebar behind the bar. I stopped by right after work so it was quiet but I imagine it gets pretty crazy when the student are out.
The beer selection is solid for the area with ten on tap including Stone Ruination IPA (my selection), Alagash White, three from Hoppin' Frog and several other choice selections. The bartender gave me samples of the DIPA and stout from Hoppin' Frog. They were very good. They also have 20+ bottles that were high quality as well.
Where was this place when I went to PC??? I'll certainly be back.

Went there one night after a beer tasting. The tap list was awesome, as was their bottle list. There were no macros on tap. The highlights were St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Ruination (don't recall the rest). Their bottles were just as high quality (3 beers from Haverhill Brewery), with some exceptions being the normal stuff you'd expect in a college bar. We got there around 9:30 and it was completely empty on a Thursday night. The waitress was awesome, though she didn't know much about beer (thought we were tourists because we all had beer shirts on). The food was really good. They make a really good grilled pizza. The only complaint is that this place is tiny and the beers were served colder than they should. The biggest benefit is that everything was really cheap, though I think they've raised their prices so they can continue to carry good beer (they were really underpriced, $5 for the Abt 12, $4 for Ruination). They even have a cool deal with their ATM. It charges you $1 to use it, but they take that $1 off your bill.

Visited on 3/19/2010. I've been meaning to check this place out for a while based on the beer list and recommendations from friends. Cafe 412 is not a large place by any means, but packs quite a bit in. Bar area consists of about 5 seats. Remainder of the restaurant consists of a a couple corner booths that can hold 3-4 people. Also a few high-top tables. Vibe is lots of wood and dimly lit. 8 taps, no macros: BBC Cabin Fever, Lost Sailor, Rogue Dry Hopped Red, Allagash White, Rapscallion Honey, Palm and Long Trail Ale - all taps were pretty much $5.00 per draft. Bottle selection was quite comprehensive and broken out by style; somewhere around 40+ craft options, as well as your standard macros and some hard ciders. Price range on bottles was $3.50 for most American crafts up to $6.50 for some of the Belgian selections, with the average being $4.00. Menu is slightly more upscale than your average bar food. Excellent thin crust grilled pizzas, panini sandwiches, wings, etc. Met a friend after work and had 4 beers and a large chicken pizza between the two of us. All said and done the bill came to $35. I would say that's pretty reasonable. The pizza was excellent and the service was really attentive. Biggest drawback of this place is the size, but has a great neighborhood bar feel. Well worth stopping in if you are in the area.
