First had: on tap at Pizza Boy

Slightly hazy copper pour with a small white head that sank to a ringlet, leaving some foamy lacing on the glass. Floral hop aroma, toasted grainy malt base. Pretty basic, nothing that stands out, but nothing bad. Taste of citrus and floral hops, moderately bitter, with a solid sweet pale malt base, a bti soapy, with a slightly acrid finish, but nothing really offensive. Medium body, moderate carbonation, overall a decent IPA.

Served on tap at Al's of Hampden in Enola, PA

A: Pours a mostly clear amber in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation and some orange + copper highlights. The beer has a half finger tall creamy light beige head that reduces to very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: There are moderate aromas of pine/resin hops, light notes of tropical/pineapple, and light to moderate aromas of citrus/orange rind. Underneath there are some lighter notes of bready malts with just a touch of caramel.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of bready malts with some very light caramel sweetness. That is followed by some moderate flavor of citrus/orange rind and pine/resin hops. The moderate bitterness in this one is rather harsh and lingers for quite a while.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: This is an interesting beer and enjoyable but not as good as some of the other IPA offerings that I have enjoyed at Al's of Hampden. A little too bitter for my palate and not quite the hop profile that I truly enjoy (I'm more of a citrus/grapefruit and tropical/mango/pineapple kind of guy).

I had this on tap at Al's of Hampden served chilled in a Pizza Boy glass

The color is deep golden amber with thick white cap which retains well w/ slow moving bubbles and film of lace. The smell has a gentle citrus and nice piney hop aroma with light grapefruit and subtle malt odor with low alcohol in the nose. The feel is good w/ low sweetness and light chalky feel with moderate bitterness and slight spicy coarse edges with gentle astringency and high resinous mostly dry finish.

The flavor indicates the brewer achieve the goal of a west coast style IPA because it has a piney slightly grapefruit oriented taste with mineral tinge and harsh bitter finish with grassy and herbal qualities joining the pine flavor. Overall a pretty hoppy west coast style IPA, not one I would say tops my list, but it is good and even though it has some noticeable astringency the alcohol is mild and I might order it again based on the fresh hop flavors

Review from notes taken more than a month ago. On tap at the source, the brew appears a hazed copper to burnt orange with a creamy white topping. Decent retention over but as the cap fades, a full wall of lace sticks in a curtain to the glass.

The aromatics includes a whole gauntlet of hop character. Pine, citrus, floral, fruity and grassy. Somewhat perfume-like at times and almost soapy which is a strange twist towards the back.

The taste carries with it a minor soapy quality just like the back end of the aroma hinted towards. A solid bitterness of pit, pulp and rindy elements of grapefruit with grassy herbal character. A dry bready grain feel and a touch of fusel alcohol fill out the rest of the profile.

This is a medium bodied, modestly carbonated beer. It is a decent take on the style but not something i would get thirsty for enough to want to drink a lot of considering the vast array of options always available at Pizza Boy.

Served on-tap at Al's of Hampden.

A - Pours amber brown with a nice one and a half finger tall white head leaving small streaks of lace down parts of the glass.

S - Smells of pungent hops, tropical fruits, pine and some slightly bready caramel malt. I like where this is heading.

T - Starts off with plenty of citric hops and light caramel malt sweetness slowly giving way to hints of pine resin and fresh cut tropical fruits, mainly grapefruit and pineapple. Finish is bitter leaving the palate dried for quite awhile after consumption.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bitter feel but not as over the top as some of the other pizza boy beers.

O - This is a pretty solid IPA. It has everything a like in an IPA, it is just a touch out of sync. I look forward to trying the new batch coming out soon.

A growler of the new house IPA at Al's. In a tumbler.

A: The IPA is a golden brown color, barely translucent but still so. A sizeable head, almost a finger, is white and clings to the sides of my glass.

S: Lush citrus aromas, grapefruit and pineapple and orange, waft out of my glass, strong but not too heavy. The hops roll over the caramel base, thick and bitter.

T: That bitterness continues into the body of the ale, citrus and pine drive the flavor. Caramel and toast are plentiful though, matching the hops punch for punch. Peppercorns add some heat but the citrus profile does just fine on its own. The resiny flavors linger, tropical fruits like pineapples and grapefruit and mangos, with an appreciable bitterness. The hoppiness just sits on my palate, hanging around long after each sip is gone.

M: A winner - a fitting house IPA. More than enough bitterness to keep me happy but balanced enough to keep me going.
