Served on cask at Al's of Hampden
A - Pours dark burnt orange with a nice one and a half finger tall off white head leaving thin webs of lace down parts of the glass.
S - Smells of citric hops, pine resin and plenty of caramel malt sweetness. As it warms up the sweetness only grows stronger, nearly overpowering everything else.
T - Starts off with a nice citric hop bite quickly being enveloped by the strong caramel malt sweetness. Hints of toffee and pine resin accompany the sweetness but not much else can break through the sweet wall. Finish has a bit of hop bitterness, combining with the strong sweetness to linger on the palate long after consumption.
M - Smooth, sweet body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Very little alcohol present throughout the glass.
O - Not too bad but the sweetness is a little too strong for my liking. The simcoe hops were a good choice but they get lost quickly in all that sweetness.

On tap at Al's; the next incarnation…
A: Darker than I was expecting, more amber brown than amber orange, although still translucent. A thin white head.
S: The simcoe adds a resiny citrus aroma that runs headfirst into the fuller caramel side. The two aspects come together with a thick sweetness, both the hops and the malts drive it.
T: The simcoe is plentiful at the start of each sip, the citrus is powdery and builds to a piney finish. Mid-sip, the caramel malts add sweetness and take control of the body. Their sweetness, along with the hops, obscures and overpowers the simcoe start. Early on it rivals Citra but falls short in the end.
M: Strong start from the simcoe but it does get absorbed into the sweetness of the caramel malts.
