Great find, this one would be good with a nice porkchop or hearty meatloaf, love the smell color and taste, picked up a 4 pack on my way to Austin, and just tried the beer just now. Overall it is a pretty impressive beer, wish I could get it here in Oklahoma, god willing I will one day.

Interesting beer from Sterkens. The aroma leaves smells like a sour, the taste is good with a slight sour bite to it. Good carbonation with a thin mouth feel. This is a quality offering and I would buy this again. I look forward to trying other brews from this brewery.

Bottom Line: Worth a look.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Look – medium brown color, somewhat murky, with about three fingers’ worth of tan-colored foam that dissipates slowly.

Smell – malty, sweet, syrupy, interesting blend of hops, but not necessarily “hoppy”-smelling.

Taste – malty and a bit musky, maybe a bit phenolic and earthy. The middle gets a little bitter, but it mellows out pretty fast. The finish is actually pretty sweet.

Mouthfeel – pretty well balanced, not leaning more toward either the watery or creamy sides.

Overall – not a bad brew at all. Good taste, and interesting to think about.

A-Reddish copper with a 2 finger head of both compressed tight and larger bubbles.

S-Sweet Jesus!! I like this one already. This is one beer I never need to drink, just smell. Lots of dried fruit smells, prunes, dates and a touch of a cherry note(not sure if this is just me). Lots of malt background too. Smells a lot like a Chimay Grande Riserve.

T-I am getting a lot of carmel flavor with malt then a bit of the dried fruit which I smelled and maybe even a touch of that cherry/sour note I smelled. This will rank high on my list.

M-a heavier body beer and a bit syrupy but is very enjoyable on this slow sipper!!

I would buy this again and may even pick up a case at the price I paid!!

Poured from .33l bottle to Jever flute. No freshness date and no indication of alcohol content ? Tastes alcoholic for the style, maybe 8 ?

A: Pours clear brown with flaky yeast deposits somehow in my bottle in spite of careful pouring... Nice head that leaves suggestive lacing.

S: Malty and caramelized

T: Mild hop bitterness prominently balanced against the sweet dark malt. Simple design but superbly balanced and well rounded flavours.

M: Feels dry and highly attenuated in spite of the caramelized maltiness.

Overall a great dubbel well worth seeking out.

Re-review on 11/17/11:
Still highly impressed by this. The yeast character is really strong but super pleasant. Incredibly impressive beer.

This is a site for sore eyes. A perfect pour. Beautiful in the glass. It is absolutely smooth, with perfect shaped bubbles. I didn't want to drink it - it looked that good.

Of course, it must be drunk, and it is pretty smooth. A litle dark, and the aftertaste reminds you that you singed up for Belgian. This really is a great experience to drink. A great Belgian.

I picked this bottle up from New Beer Dist. in LES. Honestly I wasn't expecting too much, a relatively cheap $2.50 price tag, and it was something I hadn't seen before. Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised!

The beer pours a medium ruddy brown into a goblet with a nice creamy looking two finger eggshell head. Good retention and a strong spicy smell.

What really surprises me about this beer is how dry it is. I was expecting a standard sweetish dubble, but this is different. Nice strong fruity malts like a standard dub, but not sweet at all really. Dare I say a little Hoppy? yeah I think so! I really like this beer!

The mouthfeel is creamy but still well carbonated, leading to a really pleasurable overall experience. I definitely recommend this one, a real nice surprise.

Have had a bottle of this sitting in my fridge for like 6 months now so I figured it was finally time to open it. The bottle was left over from a 4 pack that I got on my vacation to South Carolina in mid August of last year and I brought back this bottle with me. Don't recall ever seeing this beer for sale around here. Poured out of an 11/2 oz bottle into my oversized wine glass. This beer pours a hazy medium copper brown color with lots of yeasty chunks coming into my glass. Off-white head is about 1/2 inch when poured, eventually settling to a nice thick ring lining the inside of the glass and some decent surface coating. Not much lace though. Aromas of caramel and dark fruit such as raisin, plum, and apple are all present. Nice sweet caramel malt flavor upfront along with the aforementioned dark fruit and a hint of banana, a bit of Belgian candy sugar and a slight touch of spice. No discernible hops whatsoever. Has a crisp, smooth, creamy, medium to full boded mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. I did feel the mouthfeel was a bit too thin for this beer. Not a bad beer, but I wish the flavors were a bit stronger overall. Not something I wouldn't drink again by any means, but I certainly have had much better beers of this style.

11.2 oz bottle served in snifter. Undated.

pours a very dark reddish brown, hazy, with a generous tan head and an audible effervescence. The head has little retention, but some a thin partial coat and a nice ring remain.

S - spicy toasted malt; a bit subtle but otherwise rather typical for a Belgian dubbel.

T - like many Belgian style beers, this one is a little bit too spiced for my taste, particularly in the finish, although it is not exceptionally spicy for the style. Quite sweet, especially in the initial sensation. Some yeast flavors, and a bit fruity. Lacks the richness and complexity of the best Belgians.

M - smooth and crisp. Lighter body and more carbonation than expected for a Belgian dubbel, but neither of these led me to downgrade my ratings.

D - a nice one bottle sipper. Good dessert beer?

Enjoyable and good to very good, but certainly not world class.

A: The beer is slightly hazy brown in color and has a light to moderate amount of carbonation; yeast particles are visible floating in suspension. It poured with a thin creamy beige head that has good retention properties.
S: There are sweet aromas of dark fruits and malts in the nose.
T: The taste is mildly sweet and has some complexities with flavors of caramel, dark fruits, raisins and toffee. There are some hints of spices in the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit thin on the palate with a high amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and goes down smoothly.

A: Pours a murky auburn color with a big billowy head. Retention is hood not great

S: Belgian yeast, spearmint, clove, light bubblegum and banana.

T: A little vinous, mostly yeasty. Lots of spices, spearmint, light clove, cardamom! and banana. Estery notes too

MF/D: Feel is a little prickly due to higher carbonation. The finish is Belgian yeast and a esters

Pours cloudy hazel brown with a 1 inch foamy/creamy beige head, which lasts for a while; a lot of particles floating in this brew, some good sized chunks which could sink the Titanic. Decent lacing that slides down the glass pretty quickly.

Smells of sweet malt, dark fruits, yeast, brown sugar, grass, sweet malt, candy, and whole wheat bread.

Tastes of sweet malt, cola, yeast, brown sugar, floral hops, grains, roasted malt, pepper, faint spices, pear, raisin or plum, and a slight sour apple finish. Overall, it's sweet and malty with a nice complex flavor that seems to highlight the fruits. As it warms the caramel sweetness leans towards syrupy, but in a good way that covers the alcohol taste and seems like a cola (soda).

Mouthfeel is on the creamy side, with very little to no carbonation; oddly enough, this is a medium bodied beer that somehow manages to have a light feel, perhaps because of its smoothness and the ease to drink it.

Interesting beer, which was tasty and very easy to consume. I liked it and would have it again, so I recommend trying this beer.

A - Half a finger of off-white head on top of a medium brown body with some amber showing through. The foam settles quickly and leaves light lace on the glass.

S - Plum and brown sugar notes with some caramel. A bit of spicy yeast character and toffee as well.

T - Thick malt up front with some peppery yeast character. Notes of toffee and brown sugar in the middle with just a hint of roasted character. Finishes with fruity notes of plum as well as warm alcohol notes that mix with the brown malt to form rummy notes. Lingering sweet malt and plum.

M - Medium body, light carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.

D - This beer has a darker than average malt profile for its style. There are some nice toffee and brown sugar notes, but they might work better in an English porter or old ale than they do in this dubbel. The real issue with this beer is the lack of carbonation; it leaves the beer seeming thick and lifeless on the palate. Not an awful beer, but it has some serious flaws and it is a disappointment after drinking their vastly superior Witbier.
