Aroma: Light dark bread note up front. Slight hint of sulfur in the background. Low dark fruit esters and a hint of earthy hop aroma.
Appearance: Clear copper pour with amber edges. Low off-white head that retains moderately.
Flavor: Dark bready character up front, a touch of spicy/earthy hop notes in the background to balance, and a hint of dark fruit. Nothing offensive, pronounced, or over the top. Balance is to the malt. Finish is crisp and dry.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. A slight carbonic bite but no alcohol heat or astringency.
Overall impression: A very approachable beer. Provides much more flavor than the typical industrial/commercial offerings. It will appeal to the masses but probably won't do much for any extreme beer enthusiasts. The product is nicely done and for the price point, I'll be bock.

I just bought a 24-bottle case of thistuff down at my local beer distributor (PA.) Twas on sale $10 off since it's out of season by several months. (they kept it cold whole time, fortunately.)
i was in a mood for an un-pretentious lager or pilsener on this warm Spring late April day and et voila.
It is dark caramel/amber in appearance , doesn't have much going on in the nose, a grainy gritty slightly bitter taste and mouth-feel .
One cannot expect authentic German bock if Yuengling concocted this beer. It's very much Yuengling-y if y ou catch my drift .
You get what you pay for .
Would be good with sushi i'm thinking and burgers and Mexican fare . (your mileage may vary on food pairings, of course....)

On tap at Toby Hill in Clarion, PA.
Rather boilerplate--but solid--example of the style. Pours a limp and nearly headless brown with an aroma of grass and sugar dusted caramel. Tastes sweet and crisp, with mild and zippy nodes of fruit, biscuits, and sugar against a pleasantly fleeting backend of grass and mild hops.

Maroon color to the beer. However, no head. None. Looks unlike a beer.
Pretty robust and malty in the nose for a Yuengling. Some raisin, roast, cough syrup, and tinniness.
Bock-y roast and semi-fruitiness. Not terribly metallic, but it's here. Raisin, wet grain, dark bread, burnt sugar, wort-iness. Piquant in the finish, thanks to the stirring carbonation. Body is medium.
Eh, I'll be honest; I could easily have a few of these. Nothing too good. Just a malty Yuengling.

Pored from a bottle into a pint glass.
A: Medium amber color. Not too dark.
S: Light hops, not much of a malty aroma.
T: There is a balance of hops and malt, but the hops dominates. The hop flavor is not overly assertive, and overall the flavor is well balanced. It is very smooth, and interesting.
M: Thinner than I expect from a bock. It is light on the tongue.
O: Good bock, especially when I am in the mood for a slightly hoppy flavor. My only wish is that it would have a more substantial fell in the mouth.

Bought as part of a 6 pack from Beers of the World on 3/29/13.
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass served cool.
Perfectly clear dark amber with a 1 finger tannish gray head. no lacing.
aroma: not pleasant, reminds me a little of a dirty diaper.
mouthfeel: slightly better than average.
taste: some toasted malt with a slight caramel sweetness before a nasty cooked vegetable taste .it ends with a husky dried corn impression before a slight metallic bitterness.
notes: this is horrible beer. mean looking, wretched smelling and awful tasting. I couldn't finish it and am now stuck with 5 more bottles.

There are two predominant characteristics of beer flavor: hops and malt. Some palates prefer one of these, I prefer a balance of the two as is found in the beers from Germany. This bock is an example of a typical American style of bock where the hops predominate and the malt sweetness is in the background. FIne if you prefer this style, a tragedy if you do not. I prefer a more balanced brew.

Decided to try this, kind of been on a bock/double bock kick lately...felt it was smoother than conventional yuengling lager, with a more refined taste. Decent reddish-umber colour, smelled faint notes of caramel. Left little to no head (came from tap and what little head was there quickly dissipated), taste was conventional bock, without being too dry. All told, a pleasing beer, but not one i would go out of my way for.

The appearance is a darker then amber, brown, with a light head. grainy aroma. A bit of hop presents, but this is malt centered, with a sweet and caramel taste. More carbination then expected. The price and the ease of drinking make it worth a try. I will take my bock exploration elsewhere.

Pours a deep amber brown with orange edges. Modest head with decent retention. Weak lacing, but more than other yuengling varieties.
Smells kinda like cold cuts. Very odd. Somewhat pleasing though.
Taste actually quite the surprise. Rich, bready, surprising floral hop presence. Stunned at the quality.
Mouthfeel a little thin for a bock, but otherwise not unpleasant.
Overall this one is worth the price of admission, which isn't actually saying much since it's very cheap. First of their seasonals that I felt was noticeably better than the lager.

A brisk pour into a German dimple mug kicks up a brief rocky head of light tan foam that settled with large soap-like bubbles that collapses into a 1/4" collar. Nice dark tea color with healthy carbonation, sweet bready malts and a lingering subtle roastiness, very light hop aroma. Nice dark bread & bittersweet flavor...more bitter from the dark malts rather than hops, a fruity note remains after taking a mouth filling sip. Decent but thin mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. Finishes up roasty-malty. Nice showing from Yuengling but some more malt backbone would elevate this to a truly high quality Bock. Good session brew nonetheless.

12 ounce bottle, w/o freshness info
The pour is medium amber, darker tan head, with moderate retentive capabilities. Leaves minor and quickly sliding lace.
Sweet malt and a bit of honey on the nose.
Mostly sweet malts again, honey and dark bready qualities. Low to moderate complexity.
Easy drinking brew, decent for a cool fall or winters day. Easily accessable near craft beer that would make sense to introduce to a newbie.
Also would work in a marinade or stew/pot of chili.

A: Burgundy red when backlighted shows a initially strong carbonation that quickly tampers down to a soft flurry. Fluffy beige head is a finger high, short on the hold and shows a light to medium rate of lace coverage.
S: The nose is a bit disappointing, fresh celery leafs, sweet malt, none to fruity, none to enticing, with a low aromatic appeal.
T: The flavor is sweet, a bit fruity of apples and sweetly toasted malt and cereal grains. Low warming of noble flowers, a bit of spicy hops on the close.
M: syrupy, pretty good stickiness and thickness, low level of carbonation.
O: Overall it can hardly compare to an Salvator or other notable bock. Seems to be a tweener and more of an introductory to the yuengling crowd or macro world to the world of bocks. Low alcohol, lack of fruity nature with a macro-infused flavor that lacks depth, substance and seems to trail off and thin out at knockout. Drinkability is low, enjoyment is low and grows tiresome by end of a single serving lacking enthusiasm for another. A c- to c rating is about right here, didn’t offend, yet didn’t offer reason to keep drinking.

Yuengling has been finding ways to creep into "craft" territory with this spring seasonal offering. I've had a good many bock beers before and am looking forward to reviewing this beer. Purchased at Five Points in Athens for a steal at $5 / sixer.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Yuengling pint glass. Served at 47º Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) A vigorous pour yields a foamy light tan head with some light sticky lacing. surface bubbles are small and lumpy and side bubbles are soapy, thin and carbonated. Settling thickens the crown to an attractive and uneven lumpy surface cover. Overall the retention is average, and could improve, but I've seen much worse for the style. Body color is a medium-dark caramel-toned brown with some sporadic lively carbonation. Overall its quite a nice appearance from a macro brewery's take on a crafty style. 4
(Smell) Nose is chock full of caramel malts, with lesser emphasis on toffee, bitter nut and a touch of alcohol. Balance is decent with both a sweet and bitter focus in places. Despite not being too complex, the aroma has a medium potency and is appealing enough for the style. It's nothing original for a bock, although I find it enjoyable to whiff on for the most part. 4
(Taste) First impressions demonstrate a surprisingly shallow flavor, and it never really picks up much from there. Very light and watery bready caramel malt and bitter nut flavors minus the alcohol which fortunately doesn't come into play much. Flavors would be quite nice if they were a little fuller on the taste. Malts come through the most and a lingering bitterness to pair is murky and faded at best, failing to round out the taste well and bring a genuine balance to the brew. Despite the lack of striking bitterness, the beer doesn't happen to be too sweet. The resulting flavor is a decent, yet thinly flavored bock style beer, but a very drinkable one and a good session choice. I certainly wouldn't turn one of these down if offered, but it isn't my go-to choice for a bock. The flavors are just too mundane to bring any springtime cheer to my glass. 3
(Mouthfeel) Mostly slick with a bit of air on the tongue but a slightly crisp finish with a bit of bite which would pair well with a bitter finish... if the beer had one. Alcohol presence is low. Body is low as well, mostly suggestive of the thin and underdeveloped tastes. It's a decent mouthfeel, but suggests that there's much more to the taste than there really is, which doesn't make it the greatest pair but I wish the taste was more like the mouthfeel is crafted for; a nice airy malty flavor and a crisp, tart finish. It's just not the best pairing out there, but it's not the mouthfeel's fault. 4
(Overall) Aside from the at-times shallow taste (a dominating component of any beer), Yuengling comes close to crafting a real winner that would be difficult to isolate from competing bock beers out there from even the most handsomely crafted alternatives. I would recommend a try, especially if you can find it for a tempting $5 like I did. It's a light drinking bock, so it may just work for you if you're looking for a good session beer to highlight the change of seasons... or on a tight budget, which is as good an excuse as ever to pick some up. 3.5

12 ounce bottle, picked it up for $1.19 as a single. Served in a mug, the brew pours a reddish/amber color with about a 1/4 inch off-white head that went away quickly. Not much lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty, the brew smells like bready malt/grain and caramel. Not much to it, but it's a nice aroma. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some apples and nuts. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it has moderate carbonation and it's easy enough to drink. I think it's a decent enough brew, it's worth a try.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Deep red-amber in color with a thin light tan head that dissipated fast, the aroma was faintly sweet and maybe a little malty. The beer had more hop flavor than I expected as well as more hang. The bottom line was that at $4.99/six at Total Wine this is a good beer at a cheap price.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a nice reddish black color with a small white head that dissipates fairly quickly but leaves a tiny bit of lacing. Smells of darkly roasted malts with a hint of coffee but not strong. Tastes of dark roasted malt with a little bit of chocolate, but otherwise not many other tones jump out. This medium bodied beer goes down smooth and has a good level of carbonation. Overall, an average beer.

Poured into standard pint glass
A: Beautiful dark beer with light head. Barely able to see through it. Dark red tint.
S: Rich, dark, grainy, nuts and grain
T: Caramel base with a somewhat hoppy immediate presence. Somewhat nutty. Annoying metallic taste despite being poured from bottle. Somewhat ruins rest of beer. Very light, not too heavily flavored.
M: Smooth, good level of carbonation. Not oily or gassy. A little tangy.
O: It's not a terrible beer. I picked up a case for $25 on a whim. I expected it to pack a higher punch (5.1 is low for bock). I was somewhat disappointed in that regard. I feel that if Yuengling let it ferment for longer the taste would have improved with the alcohol content.
I'd have to favor the porter flat out. As for bock, I'll stick with ze Germans. It's not bad for PA, though.

12 oz bottle poured into the Bock Beer pils/flute, Yuengling Bock is a pale mahogany with a small off-white head leaving light lace.
Smell is sweet, a little caramel, nice fresh bread
Taste is nicely balanced, not as sweet as I expected, nice hop bitterness to temper without tipping to far in the other direction.
Mouthfeel light, dry.
Drinkability is good, tasty bock, full flavor but light and balanced enough to enjoy on a brisk spring day working the yard, or in my case, after.

Pours medium clear brown with a white head. Some lace, and ring of foam to the end.
Light malt nose, some sweetness. Wanted more here.
Light sweet malt, some grassy notes. Not as much depth as some bocks. Nice semi sweet malt finish with light bitterness.
A little thin, but it actually works. Good carbonation.
Decent for domestic bock. I'd have this again.

Poured from tap at a local sports bar into a funky Heineken lager glass (violation on the glass on their part)
A: A medium brownish color with some hints of red. Off white one finger white head leaves almost no glass lacing.
S: Bready, biscuit malt with grains and slight floral hop notes.
T: Wow, not bad, pleasant surprise. Biscuit malts couple with bread tones, malty, grainy with some straw flavors and a bit of nutty flavors. The surprise is the nice crisp floral and earthy pine hops that tingle the mouth towards the finish. Very nice, the hops give it a real drinkable balanced session lager.
M: Medium, nothing outstanding here, but enough to keep you interested with some bitterness from the hops.
O: As I said earlier, a pleasant surprise from Yuengling. I expected this to be sweeter and maltier, when in fact it somes off more crisp and clean. I would drink this any day as it would make for a nice session beer that is inexpensive.
I like it better than the Lager from Yuengling, but not quite as good as the Chesterfield,....but close. Nice surprise beer.

Poured into a tulip shaped pint glass, color is dark amber with a light tan head.
Smell is caramely but not too sweet, pretty flat in flavor and bland.
taste is better than scent, pretty decent bock style attempt, light caramel flavors hop bitterness is there but nothing coming through in flavor or scent.
Mouthfeel is a little sharp from the carbonation, but its tasty and I think the the addition of some more caramel malt than traditional lager helps this out.
Overall, pretty easy drinking, but still lingers in flavor pretty close to lager except for some mild caramel malt tones. I'll take this over lager but would like to see a version with a hop presence to chesterfield

Well, guess this is going to be interesting. Pour is deep amber, but still translucent. Tight white head with small bubbles. The smell is candied and burnt sugar with touches of caramel. It starts out nice and light. Cereal grains dominate at the beginning, but it finishes overly sticky sweet with burnt sugars really dominating, to a sickening thing. It was like eating brown sugar near the end.

Two finger offwhite head from a pour that was probably a little aggressive. Body is a clear red-brown. Some lace.
Initially I didn't like the smell, but actually it's not bad. Some malt (if a bit syrupy)-- slightly tangy.
Surprisingly hop-forward for a bock (though not hoppy overall) with a bitter, not quite metallic aftertaste that has some citrus that I really don't think belongs in a bock. The hops tend towards the piney side, also off for a German style. If I reconsider the beer as a lightly hopped American red ale, it starts to make more sense. This is actually a bit better than I remember it. Kinda typical of Yuengling brews, not great, but by no means bad. The malt used tastes kinda light.
Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, but carbonation is a bit too present and starts to cut into the flavor.
Decent for the price, but probably not something I'd seek out again.
