12 oz bottle poured into reaper pilsner glass

A: Pours a fairly clear copper brown color with two and a half fingers of light brown head that dissipates rather quickly with no lacing

S: A lot of malt smell with some syrupy sweet notes and also a bit of a metallic smell behind it as well

T: Toasty, biscuity malt backed with some kind of dark fruit undertones. Theres also a bit of that yuengling funk that you find in their lager as well. A little hop bitterness comes in after this with a little bit of a metallic taste at the end.

M: A medium mouthfeel with quite a bit of carbonation. Finishes rather dry

D: Not overly heavy, this is probably something I could drink all night. Not the best beer ive ever tasted, but its fairly good overall.

Overall, this is a good offering from yuengling. Definitely better than their traditional lager this is not the best beer ive ever had but it is definitely enjoyable and easy to drink

L: Pours a nice dark brown-amber-red color with a medium sized and medium bodied tan colored head that laces the glass a bit on the way down.
S: Smells of sweet roasted and toasted malts, hints of caramel, toffee, and chocolate.
T: Tastes of sweet roasted malts followed by flavors of caramel, toffee, chocolate, and a hint of coffee that is most likely from some burnt darker malts.
M: Smooth, rich, lighter bodied than it looks, perfect amount of carbonation, refreshing.
D: Very drinkable, nice mix of the flavors and not too high abv makes it pretty session-able as well.

Great retro art-deco label with a goat dinking from a goblet. Amber brown with a very thin head that quickly dissipated. Has that traditional pretzely malt bock smell. Taste is pronounced pretzel malt/bread crust w/ just enough hop to bitter. Finishes dry but not astringent. Mouthfeel's a bit watery for the style. Also a bit creamy which was pretty good. Not bad at all for a $7.00/6pk beer.

I'm not going to go into details, but I was quite surprised when I had this beer. It's unbeatable for the price. I got it at Andy Gavin's in Scranton, PA. $1.50 for a pint, or $6.00 for a pitcher. Unbeatable price and it tastes surprisingly good!!

Let's hope this is true because I'm ready for the warm weather :)

Poured a clear dark brown. Not much head or lacing, but this beer is pretty light on the hops, so no surprise there. Aroma is of roasted malt as is the taste. A little bit of cocoa comes through, but very subtly.

This beer surprised me for some reason. I'm not tradtionally a big fan of bocks, but I think this one will make me seek more out in the future. Just another solid beer from Yuengling.

Appearance: Pours brown like Coca-Cola with a nice thick tan head that has good lacing. It's hard to see the carbonation in the dark brew.

Smell: Very faint but I think it smells like plums, sweet and fruity. Toasted malt. I smell a little hops also.

Taste: Starts out malty sweet, but not too sweet, just right. Then it turns a little hoppy with a hint of metal. Throughout there's kind of a wood (cedar/redwood) taste that's good.

Mouthfeel: light bodied, good carbonation, nice bite.

This beer is easy to enjoy. Although thirst quenching, it has nice and assertive character.

Pored from a bottle into a pint glass.

A: Medium amber color. Not too dark.

S: Light hops, not much of a malty aroma.

T: There is a balance of hops and malt, but the hops dominates. The hop flavor is not overly assertive, and overall the flavor is well balanced. It is very smooth, and interesting.

M: Thinner than I expect from a bock. It is light on the tongue.

O: Good bock, especially when I am in the mood for a slightly hoppy flavor. My only wish is that it would have a more substantial fell in the mouth.

Pours a dark translucent mahogany with a decent beige head. What I got was not thick, but that is probably an artifact of preparing the pint. Aroma is malty and slightly spicy, not too strong. Flavor is rich, malty and yeasty with woody and toffee hints. Fizzy and lively texture leaves a nice tingle behind.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazlenut tawny brown color with a very small thin head. Crystal clear with reddish hues. Zero lacing and the head dissapated to a thin film and collar around the glass.

Smell: Smells a bit nutty and malty. A hint of spiciness and a crisp hoppy backnote. A hint of toasted marshmallow and mild sweetness on the back end.

Taste: Tastes malty and spicy with floral hop bit on the back end that just balances out the sweetness enough. very light and ephervescant. Very light on the palate and a good example of a light bock.

Mouthfeel: A little over carbonated and light for my palate. Crisp finish and overall its enjoyable.

Drinkability: Very high drinkability: medium malt background and a light crisp finish paired with a low abv makes this a great session beer.

A: Pours a dark reddish brown with a massive head that fades slowly and leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

S: Sweet caramel aroma with a slight sweet corn smell.

T: Dry toasted malt flavor that fades to a pumpernickel type flavor.

O: Very nice bock. Smooth, not overpowering and just enjoyable to drink.

Enjoyed this on draught at the 12th Street Taphouse in Charlottesville.

A: Deep amber, more bronzish with a red hue. Head is about a finger tall in a 20 oz. pint glass, with good retention, but rather light lacing

S: Some nice toasted malts, rather light, but easily approachable. There's almost a 'sap-like' scent that comes out as it warms which provides a good dynamic to the aroma.

T: Sweet maltiness, and a bit of a syrupy hint to it which does it well. A light bitterness, just right for the flavour intensity.

M + D: Moderate carbonation over a medium body... it's got a little bit of 'delayed weightiness' towards the finish. All in all, a pretyh tasty and easy going beer. I'm quite pleased with this, and have to give kudos to Yuengling. Worth checking out.

6-pack ($5.99) from Bullock's Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia. Yes, an entire six-er!

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep, aged copper body with a froth, incredibly light beige-colored head. Thin spackling of lace on the way down.

Smell: Nose of toasted biscuits and bread backed by some spicy-scented hops and hints of caramel and molasses and dark fruit.

Taste: Malty tastes of biscuits and dark bread with light, sweet flourishes of molasses and dark caramel. Fruit hint of boxed raisins. A spicy, herbaceous hop presence emerges from beneath the sweet maltiness to deliver a bit of balancing bitterness (given a small boost by the relatively crispness of the beer). Sweetish maltiness mingled with the subtly spicy hops on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Drinkability: Apparently, it's been nearly forty long years since ole Yuengling produced a bock. I found it to be not only easily drinkable and reasonably sessionable, but a decent bargain at six bucks a six-er.

This beer pours out of 12 oz bottle a brown red color like Coca Cola with a pure white head which disappears rapidly. Carbonation is minimal like a Bock should be, so far it looks like a Bock. Smells include Munich malt sweetness and an earthy overtone, not bad. Tastes like sweet and roasted Munich malts, some corn adjunct, and earthy hops so they used a Tettnanger or Liberty style hops good job except the corn overtone! Drinkability is high, and this is goes down easy. For all accounts and purposes this is the best in what i would call American Style Bock. It hearkens back to a German beer with an American twist. This is a good interpretation!

Was surprised to see Yuengling put something out other than their usual lineup...I immediately bought a sixer.

Appearance: heavy red-orange brown color, clear with significant carbonation, moderate foaming with clean pour, with only resdiual foam lingering around the rim.

Smell: the first scent draws obvious likenesses to Traditional Lager, yet stronger with a more pronounced malty aroma.

Taste: first impression points to continued likenesses to Traditional Lager with a clean start, yet the toasty flavor of the malts lingers beyond the finish

Drinkability: maintains the traditional appeal that you would expect from Yuengling, yet is also an enhanced, more developed taste.

A: Nice and dark, especially for the style. Nice caramel head and lacing that stuck around.

S: Malty, chocolate malts at that, coffee hint. Deeper aroma than most bocks that I've had.

T: Very good, chocolate malt with a hint of hops in the middle. Black coffee hint going down with a black licorice aftertaste.

M: Crisp yet creamy, medium body, about perfect for the style.

O: Very good, I can drink these all night.

I wish that this was easier to find in bottles for at home. I've only been able to get this at bars and restaurants in the area (I live 10 miles from Pottsville, where it's brewed). It's awesome to pay $1 for a 16 ounce draft of such a good beer just because it's local. This beer is only available for about 2 months a year, next year I'll be sure to pick up a few cases, especially at about $17 a case locally.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pilsner glass. Bottled on January 13, 2011 per code printed on bottle.

Appearance: Pours a medium cherry wood color with ruby highlights and a 1 finger white head which dissipates quickly. Decent lacing.

Smell: Biscuity malt with floral hops.

Taste: Bready malt up front followed by pale malt in the middle and a bit of hoppy bitterness at the finish. Aftertaste is mildly bitter. Has a bit of the flavor I associate with Yuengling Traditional Lager, but this tastes a little better and is more well-balanced.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a high amount of carbonation. Goes down smooth.

Drinkability: High drinkability. You could knock back a few without much trouble.

Overall: Good beer overall. I like Yuengling Traditional Lager from time to time, but this is a better beer from the same brewer. This could become a go-to cheap beer for me. It's not world class by any means, but it's worth trying if only because it's cheap.

Served on-tap at Ithaca Coffee Co's Green St. location.

A: The bock is a chocolate brown/black color that arrived with no head. A little to brownish to be a cola.

S: The nose is sweet chocolate malt and plenty of cereal grains. A stronger hoppiness keeps the malts in check.

T: Nothing fancy, this lagerbier offers a fuller, richer taste without throwing a lot of alcohol at you. Full, bready malts are heavy on caramel and chocolate, leaving a heavier taste in my mouth. A fresh hoppiness is subtle but present. The house yeast has left a familiar Yuengling fingerprint.

M: Nothing spectacular but a solid bock. The dark malts are bigger (relatively, of course), sustaining a longer, more consistent flavor.

D: A very low alcohol bock, I'd be happy sipping on this on a breezy spring day. Next time, I'll get it locally rather than drive to Ithaca.

Poured into my pint glass, a clear dark reddish copper with two fingers worth of light tan head.

Not a very strong scent. Smells like bready malt and some faint hop.

Tastes sweet then chocolate like, almost smokey with grassy hops from a Lord Chesterfield in the back. Doesn't linger much. A little dryness.

A medium slick feeling, and pretty fizzy. fairly drinkable.

I wanted more malt, but then, I always want more malt. This one is solid, and a great change of pace from the usual rotation of Yuengling brews. I hope they start doing more seasonal brews.

Pours a nice moderate brown color with a bit of a tan head. The nose brings a good deal of caramel as well as a bit of toffee and light hops. The taste is confined to caramel and bread, bit is still nice. Medium body with good carbonation. Pretty tasty and a great value.

Pours a dark brown with traces of amber and a thin rocky off white head that is quickly banished to the land of wind and ghosts. Little lacing.

Sweet and malty. Slight toasty scent.

Taste is the same with a slightly bitter dry finish.

Creamy mouthfeel and a very thin body.

Nicely drinkable. Not too filling.

Good beer from yuengling though not amazing.

Poured into my pilsner glass resulting in a good two finger head of dense foam and wonderful clinging lace. Some of the best lace I have seen in a long time. The color is a 29 in the SRM beer color chart. Smell is that of roasted barley, burnt corn husks, peat moss, rich coca, and dark brewed coffee. The initial taste is slightly sweet with a lingering of honey. Rich roasted barley follows and the finish is a tinge of hops. Mouthfeel is grand and full, lots of creamy coating and fullness. Overall it is a beer I would buy again, and drink while watching a good movie.

I had the pleasure of trying Yuengling Bock on-tap at local Chambersburg watering hole The Cottage.

The draft was served in a "true" pint; the beer was darker than expected and not very foamy. The dark, murky beer was an unexpected surprise from Yuengling.

The beer was thick and malty, like any good bock, and had a very strong caramel flavor. It was smooth and didn't seem anything like a typical Yuengling; it had depth and character. I hope that folks who enjoy the Yuengling Lager will try it and discover the bock style in the way its meant to be enjoyed.

The last quarter of my pint was a bit heavy but I was drinking lighter beer earlier in the evening. All of the guests at my table tried a pint, and many ordered a second (and a third). It seemed to be universally enjoyable.

A recommended try on a new style from an established brewer; America's oldest. Chalk this one up along with Yuengling's other under-rated styles: Black & Tan and Porter.

Pours brown with a large ecru head that fades fast.

The aroma is malty with hints of chocolate. Maybe some yeast and hops, but they're almost an afterthought.

A pleasant (albeit unexpected) hoppiness opens on the tongue and rolls out to sweet, adjuncty malts--mostly corn--and the slightest hint of chocolate. The hops lash back, and everything's rounded out for a balanced finish. The carbonation is on point, but the taste of corn hangs out a bit too long.

I only bought a single and didn't check the price of a sixer, but I could easily see this replacing the Lager as my go-to cheap beer.

Not my typical Yuengling, but I had to try it. Pours Mahogony to brown with a nice head at first. Leaves a tiny bit of lace. Smells a bit toasty with tiny bit of a plastic/cough syrup flavor in it. Carbonated well with a malty finish. I would buy again.
